8 Cloud, Hosted or On Premises: There is a very healthy appetite for PMOs to have their tool hosted in the cloud these days. Do I want my tool to be hosted in the cloud or do I want it in house? Price / Cost: This is a question every company asks, how much money are we going/willing to spend? Mind you the costing of a PM tool usually doesn t allow for change management. So I can t emphasize enough on how important it is to allow a big chunk of your budget on change management (and that is NOT training) Features / Functions: I think this one if very obvious. What do you want the tool to do for you? Now and in the future if/when your PPM maturity enhances. Interface / Users Adoption: The more the user is familiar with the UI the better buy in / adoption you get. For example if your users are very familiar with SharePoint then Project Server / Project Online is a very strong candidate as your PPM tool. Assuming that it ticks the other boxes of course. Integration with Existing Applications: Again if you are a MS shop that have SQL, SharePoint, Dynamics, etc.. and you think that you need (not that this is always the case) to integrate with some of these existing tools, then it makes sense to choose the same vendor.

9 Primavera Microsoft EPM Cost $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ Ease of use Comparison Primavera vs MS EPM Adoption Notes: MS PPM is easier to adopt unless skills of using Primavera exist. MS PPM is an extension to MS Project (Office) and SharePoint. Embedded PPM Artefacts Notes: : Primavera has very clear verticals that come with methodologies, templates and best practices. MS PPM relies on Microsoft Partners ecosystem

10 A bit of history; CA Clarity was established in In 2005, CA bought Niku Portfolio Manager for $350M and renamed it to Clarity. The tool is now it called CA PPM The Good Clarity has a strong presence in the PPM market and is said to have 1500 customers. According to Gartner this tool has moved successfully to a SaaS/ Cloud model. It also continues to improve based on customer feedback. Their Agile functionality is strong which is evident in the solution. Flexible when it comes to platforms, it can be deployed on Windows/Linux, SQL/Oracle. They are a Leader in the Integrated IT Portfolio Analysis Applications, in fact the only one from the PPM reviewed here. It tracks and manages IT service costs and uses this data to rationalise IT decisions affecting IT operations. The Bad It s that price tag again, Clarity is expensive! The price of the on premises version starts at around US$125,000 for 100 users. Additional users can be added on a per seat price. The CA Clarity PPM on demand service starts at around $50,000 per year, for 100 users. Additional users can be added on a per seat basis. On top of that, there is a 20% maintenance fee, and then implementation services.
