5 Installation INSTALLATION To install thesvp Manager Manager, double click on the SVP Manager Manager.msi file and follow the instructions. Figure 1 InstallShield Wizard You may change the default location, which is C:\Program Files\MDM400\, if needed. Figure 2 Destination /A 5

7 Installation Overview The MDM SVP Manager is a tool for transferring SVP Profiles from various sensor types to different receivers such as echo sounders and acoustic position systems. Handles several input formats Automatic SVP Transfer to receivers Converts SVPs to several formats Capable of handling several sources simultaneously Handles several recipients simultaneously The received profile is converted to the desired formats before it is transferred to the target and optionally stored in the MDM 400 database. It is possible to do some editing of the profiles before they are transferred. Stored profiles can be exported to be used in Neptune for post-processing /A 7

8 Kongsberg SVP Manager Main overview The main view is where you control and monitor the application. Figure 4 SVP Manager SVP Sources This list shows which instruments that the application is set up to receive Sound Velocity Profiles from. Press the Add button to add a new source and Remove to remove the selected instrument Double click on an element in the list to configure it. Receivers This list shows which instruments that can receive SVP s from the application. Press the Add button to add a new source and Remove to remove the selected instrument Double click on an element in the list to configure it. Press Distribute to manually transfer the last received SVP to the selected instrument. Last SVP Received At This shows when the last SVP was received. Press View to show the Profile. Press View Stored to view and optionally export stored SVPs. Control Toggle the Enable button to automatically receive and transfer SVPs /A

9 Installation Click the Configure button to open the Configuration dialog where various setting may be entered. View View the last read profile. View Stored If connected to a MDM400 Database, view any stored profiles. Export Export the active profile to a file. Supported file formats are ASVP, SSP00 and SSP /A 9

10 Kongsberg SVP Manager SVP Source configuration This is where you configure the different SVP Sources Figure 5 Edit SVP Source Name Enter the name of the instrument in this field. The name is used to describe the instrument. Source Select whether the profile data is transferred over a Serial line, UDP (LAN connection) or read from a file. Location Depending on the source type, enter either COM port settings, UDP port or file location (the directory where the profiles are stored). The COM port settings are entered like this: COMn;<baud>;<Data Bits>;<Parity>;<Stop bits> For example COM1;9;600;8;0;0 If the data source is UDP, enter the port number e.g Data Type Select the instrument s data type from the list. If you select User Defined, please press Cfg and configure thedatasource /A

11 Installation Figure 6 User defined format Enter number of header lines to skip, field separator and the SV and depth field number. Pressing OK closes the dialog and applies the settings. Pressing Cancel closes the window without saving any changes /A 11

12 Kongsberg SVP Manager Configuration SVP receivers This is where you configure the SVP Receivers Figure 7 Receiver Name Enter the name of the instrument in this field. The name is used to describe the instrument. IP Address and Port No Enter the instrument s IP address and UDP port number it uses to receive SVP Profiles Data Type Select the data type the instrument uses for SVP. SVPs are automatically converted from the Input format to the format the instrument requires Automatic Transfer Check this box if SVPs shall be automatically transferred to the instrument Pressing OK closes the dialog and applies the settings. Pressing Cancel closes the window without saving any changes /A

13 Installation SVP graph This windows displays the last received Sound Velocity Profile Figure 8 SVP Edit Points can be edited by changing the values in the table. This can be used to remove obvious errors in the data. Points cannot be removed, but setting the Sound Velocity equal to the previous or next value has the same effect as removing it /A 13

14 Kongsberg SVP Manager SVP browser Here you can browse trough the stored profiles and optionally edit them and export them to a format that can be read by Neptune during post-processsing. Figure 9 SVP Viewer Select the desired profile from the drop down list and optionally edit the data in the table. Press Refresh Graph to view the changes. Export the profile by pressing Export /A

15 Installation Configuration This is where different settings are changed. Figure 10 Settings Display New Profiles Check this to automatically display new profiles when they arrive. Auto Enable Check this to start listening for data over UDP and serial lines at stat up. Thin Profiles Check this to and enter a number in the Max SV Rate Cng box to thin the SV Profile. Data points are skipped if the change in sound speed is less than the entered value. Please experiment with this value to get a good result. Extend to If you want to extend the profile, select a depth from the list box. Database settings Enable storing. Toggle this to enable or disable storing of file information in the database. This should be enabled by default if you have installed the MDM400 database. In stand alone mode, this setting is not used. DSN (Data Source Name). This setting is used to tell which database to use. Do not change this unless you have a non-standard MDM installation. Login: Enter the database login here. The default is user1 Password: Enter the password here. Default is none /A 15

16 Kongsberg SVP Manager To verify that the DSN is correctly configured, open the control panel and select Administrative Tools and Data Sources (ODBC). Then select the System DSN tab and double click the MDM4 entry to configure it. Figure 11 Server DSN Configuration The most important entry is the Server setting. In the example above it is set to (local). This means that the SQL database is running on the local machine. If it is running on a different PC you have to enter the name of that PC in the Server field e.g. MDM-SERVER. Press Next and verify that the user name is set to user1 Figure /A
