1 Thermal Receipt Printer Installation Instructions The thermal printer installation is composed of several parts consisting of 8/10/04 1) Unpacking and setting up the printer, 2) Installing the print driver software in the PC operating system, 3) Configuring Client Access to print from CU*BASE to the thermal printer, and 4) Modifying CU*BASE hardware configuration to recognize the printer as a thermal printer. Part two, installing the print driver, is separated into two categories based on operating system (Windows XP & 2000 users, and Windows 95 & 98 users). Please feel free to contact the CU*Answers Systems Team for installation assistance. NOTE: These instructions assume you are replacing an existing dot-matrix receipt printer with a new thermal receipt printer using the same printer ID. Please contact the CU*Answers Systems Team for additional instructions if you need to assign a new printer ID. Step 1 - Unpacking and setting up the printer 1a) Decide on location for printer (printer comes with 6' printer cable for PC to Printer communication). Printer requires standard electrical outlet for power. 1b) Unpack printer, power cable (2 parts), and printer cable. 1c) Locate available 9-pin serial port on back of PC (COM1 or COM2). The top COM port is usually COM1. The next COM port (if available) is usually COM2. (You will need to remember which COM port the printer cable is connected to.) Connect printer cable 9-pin connector to an available COM port on back of PC. 1d) Connect printer cable 25-pin connector to 25-pin port on back of printer. 1e) Install thermal paper roll so that paper feeds from bottom of roll and not over the top (see photo right). 1f) Connect power cable. < power cable 1g) Turn printer power switch to on position (power LED will be green). 2 Step 2A - Printer Driver Installation Instructions for Windows 95/98 Operating System (Windows 2000/XP users go to step 2B) 2a) From the Windows desktop, Select START> Select SETTINGS> Select PRINTERS Double-click on the ADD PRINTER Icon> Select Local Printer> (Fig. 1) In the Manufacturers column select Generic" In the Printers column select Generic / Text only" (Fig. 1) 2b) Select the COM port the printer cable is connected to (example COM1)> Select Configure Port button> In the COM# Properties window (Fig. 2), change Port Settings to: Bits per second = 9600 Data Bits = 8 Parity = None Stop Bits = 1 Flow Control = Xon/Xoff (Fig. 2) CU*Answers Thermal Receipt Printer Instructions Page 2

3 2c) Supply a name to identify this printer (CU*Answers recommends something like "Thermal Receipt Printer Teller Station A") (Fig. 3) When asked if you want this printer to be the Windows default printer? Answer is No (Fig. 3) 2d) Print Test Page? Answer is No (Fig. 4) Select FINISH (Fig. 4) Please proceed to Step 3, Client Access Printer Configuration Instructions. 4 Step 2b - Printer Driver Installation Instructions for Windows XP/Windows 2000 Operating System (Windows 95 & 98 users go to step 2a) 3a) From the Windows XP desktop, Select START>PRINTERS & FAXES -OR- From the Windows 2000 desktop, Select START>SETTINGS>PRINTERS Double-click on the ADD PRINTER Icon> Select Local Printer> Select COM port that printer cable is connected to > Select NEXT In the Manufacturers column select Generic" In the Printers column select Generic / Text only" (Fig. 5) (Fig. 5) 3b) Supply a name to identify this printer (CU*Answers recommends something like "Thermal Receipt Printer Teller Station A") (Fig. 6) When asked if you want this printer to be the Windows default printer? Answer is No Share Printer? Answer is Do not share this printer Print Test Page? Answer is No Select FINISH (Fig. 6) You will now see the newly created icon in the "Printers" window. 5 3c) Right-mouse-click on the new icon for the thermal receipt printer and select PROPERTIES The Printer Properties window is displayed. 6 3e) Select the Advanced tab. Select Start printing immediately. Modify the settings to match those in (Fig. 9)> (Fig. 9) 3f) Select the Print Processor button. Set the default datatype to RAW. (Fig. 10) (Fig. 10) CU*Answers Thermal Receipt Printer Instructions Page 6

7 3g) Select the Device Settings tab. Modify the settings to match those in (Fig. 11) (Hint: click the underlined text to change it) Cont. Feed No Break: US Std Fanfold Cut Sheet: US Std Fanfold Cont. Feed With Break: US Std Fanfold Close the Printers window to return to the Windows 2000 desktop. (Fig. 11) Please proceed to Step 4, Client Access Printer Configuration Instructions. Step 3 - Client Access Printer Configuration Instructions 4a) Launch the Client Access printer session for the existing receipt printer From the Communication menu, choose Configure (Fig. 12) Choose the Setup button (Fig. 12) CU*Answers Thermal Receipt Printer Instructions Page 7

8 4b) Select the Transform print data to ASCII on AS/400 option. (Fig. 13) Select *NONE in the Printer model selection drop-down text box. If prompted to terminate communications, choose OK> (Fig. 13) 4c) From the File menu, choose Printer Setup Choose the new thermal receipt printer, then choose OK> (Fig. 14) (Fig. 14) Step 4 - Modify CU*BASE Hardware Configuration 5a) Log in to CU*BASE and go to menu MNCNFC Choose #10 Hardware Configuration Choose Printer (Enter) Select the receipt printer ID from the list (Enter or Select) (Fig. 15) For Type, choose Thermal Use Enter to save then F7 to return to the menu. (Fig. 15) 5b) To test the printer, print a dummy receipt: post a $0 transaction to any account (such as your credit union account) through teller posting.
