Agenda History of Meter Programming The Transition Network Structure Components Identifiers Registration Introduction to OpenWay Programming Functions Configuration Details and Features Managing Configurations OpenWay Tools/Shop Manager Future Enhancements
Programming History
Itron Electricity Metering Software History Objectives User friendly interface Data import/export functions Configuration management and organization Configuration and meter tracking
Network Structure
Network Structure - Components Two-way communications from the home, through to the MDM and on to upstream applications Upstream Systems ZigBee 5. Home Gateway Device 1. Meter Data Management System 2. Head End System Communication Network 4. Smart meter 3. Data Collection Network
Network Structure - Components
OpenWay Collection Engine - Functions Pumps command-driven data between the MDMS (Meter Data Management System) and end-points Enables AMI features through secure network data collection including metering data, events, and alarms System of record for meter configuration data (meta data) Imports and downloads firmware to OpenWay devices Creates application groups for meter management Provides multiple interfaces to external systems and meter data management systems through web service subscriptions Provides job status
OpenWay Collection Engine - Programming Meter programs are now defined as configurations Configurations can ONLY be created and edited by the Collection Engine Meter configurations can be imported/exported to and from different versions of the Collection Engine Tracking of configurations are managed at the Collection Engine Remotely apply meter configurations via the Collection Engine
Identifiers in the OpenWay Collection Engine An endpoint in the Collection Engine is a meter. The endpoint serial number is the human readable meter identifier under the barcode on the face of the meter. The Collection Engine s Endpoint Serial Number = The Meter Identifier
Identifiers in the OpenWay Collection Engine ESNs (Electronic Serial Numbers) are globally unique Universal Object Identifiers meeting ANSI/ISO standards. While the shorter serial numbers may not be unique, every meter ever manufactured has a unique ESN. Endpoint Definition File Itron supplies its customers with 2 files containing the ESNs for all meters, cell relays and transparent devices. These are called the: Endpoint Definition File Configuration Group File
Identifiers in the OpenWay Collection Engine Electronic serial numbers (ESNs) include three identifiers Identifier 1: ANSI universal object identification number for Itron Identifier 2: 0 If the meter identifier is the same as the manufacturer s (Itron s) serial number. 1.x. If the meter identifier is customer defined. 2 if this is a cell relay electronic serial number Identifier 3: Meter identifier: Itron s or customer defined (short serial number)
Meter Registration Process 1. Install 2. Find Neighbor Synchronize RF LAN Authenticate Register
Creating Configurations
Configuration Details
Configuration Management Edit Copy Export Download
Creating New Configurations 1. New Configuration link 2. Configuration name field 3. Device class selection 4. (not shown) Description field 5. Click Save
Creating New Configurations 6. Each tab provides details on the meter configuration that can be viewed and edited. The tabs available will vary depending on the meter capabilities. 7. To save any edits made, you must click the Save function. The first time you close an edited and saved configuration it will be version 2. Note. If you want to revert to default settings, do not save. Click Close. Any edits you made to default setting will be cancelled. The configuration will be version 1.
Energy Programming The register will collect 4 of 7 different energy types. Each one requires a channel. Only the 4 energies selected for collection can be selected for demand measurement, load profile and/or display on meter s LCD Instantaneous voltage is always captured - no configuration needed Demand quantities are limited by selection of energies
Voltage Monitoring RMS Volt Low Threshold (V): Defines the instantaneous voltage min threshold. RMS Volt High Threshold (V): Defines the instantaneous voltage max threshold. Low Voltage Threshold Deviation/Interval (80-100%): Defines the average voltage min threshold percentage allowed in an interval. High Voltage Threshold Deviation/Interval ( %): Defines the average voltage max threshold percentage allowed in an interval. NOTE: These events are not flagged in the interval status. Enable events and alarms for these occurrences in the Event tabs.
Voltage Monitoring Programming
Service Limiting Service Limiting is used to force an automatic disconnect if the end customer surpasses load limits. Allows a meter to be remotely disconnected if the present demand exceeds one of three configured thresholds in an established service limiting tier. Supported tiers: Normal Example: 100,000 W Critical Example: 50,000 W Emergency Example: 20,000 W
Service Limiting Type Programming Threshold Demand Select the quantity. This was set in the Demand setting in the Quantities tab. Threshold Levels enter the value of the units for the threshold.
Events and Exceptions All events are related to Register operations. The Events tab is used to select meter s events. 43 events can be configured 16 of the 43 events can be configured as exceptions The HAN and LAN Communication Logs record events related to communication. The Comm Logs tab is used to select communication events 44 events can be configured
Events and Exceptions Programming
Creating New Configurations The Collection Engine displays Validation Errors and Warning for some of the configuration settings.
