3 Introduction Overview This guide provides instructions for upgrading your Sabre for Windows Reservations Software, using new technology. You need to download and install this software in your agency if you use pooled terminal addresses (TAs) with HSSP (Host Session Service Protocol) have workstations with advance operating systems (Windows NT, 2000 and XP) want to take advantage of programming corrections and enhancements. A complete list of corrections and enhancements can be found on the Sabre for Windows What s New document located at Before you start the upgrade, be sure that all workstations to be upgraded are logged onto the network. Then download and install the software from If you want to upgrade one workstation, use the Standard method. To upgrade an entire office or for additional options, we recommend using the Custom method. Installation Requirements To upgrade Sabre applications in your agency, you must have at least one computer on your network with an Internet connection. For Sabre supplied equipment, the recommended workstations should be a Compaq 333 MHz or better. Customer supplied equipment should follow the recommended requirements for the version of Windows being used. Getting Help If you need help with the upgrade after you have followed the procedures in this guide, contact the appropriate Help Desk. North America Latin America Help Desk Database For Sabre for Windows upgrade assistance, contact the Hardware Help Desk at (800) For assistance in Latin America, contact your local Help Desk. To access the Hardware Help Desk online database, do the following: 1. Go to the eservices web site at 2. Follow the instructions within the login window to access the eservices area. 3. Select Support and HW/SW Install Support. This database contains information about frequently asked questions and allows you to look for answers to your questions online. 4 Upgrading the Software Downloading the Software Follow the procedure below to download the software from the eservices web site. Note: Close all applications at the workstations and make sure you are logged on to the network before beginning the upgrade. If you use Ctrl + Alt + Del to close applications, do not close Systray, Explorer, or SSSClnt. Complete this process at the workstation with Internet access. 1. Go to the eservices web site at 2. Follow the instructions within the login window to access the eservices area. 3. Select Support and then Downloads. 4. Select Sabre for Windows 4.5G Software. The File Download dialog displays to confirm that you want to download the software from the Internet. 5. Select Save this program to disk and click OK. The Save As window appears. We recommend that you save the program to your Desktop. Note: You may be prompted to confirm the security risk of installing software directly from the Internet. 6. From the Desktop, double-click the MasterInstallationLauncher (MIL) icon to launch the upgrade process. Sabre for Windows v4.5g Installation Guide February 2002 Upgrading the Software 4
5 7. The Master Installation Launcher - Sabre Software window appears. Do one of the following: If you want to upgrade one workstation, click Standard. This is the default Sabre 4.X installation process; the MIL detects which existing Sabre applications are installed and automatically upgrades all applications. If the workstation has no Sabre software, the MIL prompts you to choose the Sabre applications to be installed. This method is also recommended for upgrading multiple workstations that have fast internet access. If you want to upgrade more than one workstation, click Custom. Choose one of the four custom installation options: 1) Download only. Choose this option to download the software at the local workstation with no installation process. This option allows you to use the workstation as a server for future installations. 2) Download and Install - this workstation. Choose this option to complete the download and installation at a single workstation. This option will upgrade Sabre applications on existing workstations and install Sabre applications on new workstations. This option resembles the standard Sabre installation practice in which you use the SETUP MENU switch. 3) Download and Install - LAN. Choose this option if you have many workstations to upgrade and all workstations are simultaneously available for this process. Note: The primary workstation will be installed with the Sabre 4.5G Workstation Preparation Diskette. All other workstations must have a minimum of the Sabre 4.4G Workstation Preparation Diskette installed before proceeding. 6 4) Create Workstation Preparation Diskette. Choose this option to create a Prep Diskette which is required for the Download and Install LAN option. Installation Instructions Reference Based on the installation method you select and the software currently available on the workstations, please follow specific instructions in the following sections. For a Standard installation on a workstation without Sabre software, please refer to the section, Standard Installation No Sabre Software on page 7. For a Standard installation on a workstation with Sabre software, please refer to the section, Standard Installation Sabre Software Available on page 11. For a Custom installation with Download only, please refer to the section, Custom Installation Download Only on page 14. For a Custom installation with Download and Install at the local workstation, please refer to the section, Custom Installation Download and Install on page 17. For a Custom installation with Download and Install over the LAN, please refer to the section, Custom Installation Download and Install for the LAN on page 20. 7 Standard Installation No Sabre Software If you selected a Standard installation, the download process automatically identifies the software components to upgrade. However, if the workstation does not currently have any Sabre software, you are prompted to select the software prior to the upgrade process. Follow these procedures for a Standard installation at workstations without Sabre software. Specify Region Select Software The first part of the installation process determines the geographic region to which the software is applicable. If the automatic search process cannot identify your region, you are prompted to specify your geographic region. Select the appropriate geographic region. The Select Software window displays. Installation Steps 1. Select all appropriate products needed to complete the installation. Click Next. 2. A window displays providing the option to search the network for components or software related to the previous application list. 8 Although the process of searching the network for usable components takes time, choosing Yes can shorten the download time in many cases. 3. You are provided an option to specify the source of the components or they can allow the MIL to search the workgroup. a. If you chose No on step 2, select No. b. If you chose Yes on step 2 and do not know the name of the workstation where the software is located, select No and the installation routine will search the LAN. c. If you chose Yes on step 2 and do know the name of the workstation or server where the software is located, select Yes and provide the name of the workstation. 9 4. You may be prompted to choose the method of your connection to the Internet. a. If you have a direct connection to the Internet, choose Direct Connection to the Internet. Then click OK. b. If you have a proxy server, choose Proxy Connection to the Internet and then complete the remaining fields with the appropriate information required to access the Internet. The Information screen displays the total size of the files that will be transferred from the Sabre for Windows web site. Click OK. The Sabre Download Status screen displays in addition to the standard download screens to inform you of the download progress. 10 5. When the download is complete, the Sabre applications are automatically installed to the workstation. 6. When the Installation Complete window appears, click Finish to close this window and restart the workstation. You are now ready to use the Sabre for Windows v4.5g software on this workstation. Confirm Software The Master Installation Launcher (MIL) program detects which products are installed on the workstations and provides a list of the Sabre applications that were found and will be updated. Installation Steps 1. Confirm that these are the applications to be upgraded. Click Next. 2. A window displays providing the option to search the network for components or software related to the previous application list. Although the process of searching the network for usable components takes time, choosing Yes can shorten the download time in many cases. 3. You are provided an option to specify the source of the components or they can allow the MIL to search the workgroup. 14 Custom Installation Download Only If you selected a Custom installation with a Download only, you have the flexibility to select and download the appropriate Sabre applications and install them at a later time or from other workstations across your network. Follow the next steps for a Custom installation with Download only. Select Software The Select Software window displays. Installation Steps 1. Select all appropriate products needed to complete the installation. Click Next. 2. A window displays providing the option to search the network for components or software related to the previous application list. Although the process of searching the network for usable components takes time, choosing Yes can shorten the download time in many cases. 16 Click OK. The Sabre Download Status screen displays in addition to the standard download screens to inform you of the download progress. 5. When the download is complete, the Sabre applications are not installed. However, the Installation Complete window appears. Click Finish to close this window. The Sabre applications you selected were downloaded to the directory: C:\SABRE\APPS\ATS\JOBS\EVOYA\ You are now ready to install the Sabre for Windows v4.5g files at this workstation or others across your network. You can install the software from any workstation by accessing the file: C:\SABRE\APPS\ATS\JOBS\EVOYA\MIL\language\DISK1\SETUP.EXE You can copy the software to a shared resource that will allow UNC. 17 Custom Installation Download and Install If you selected a Custom installation with a Download and Install, you have the flexibility to select and download the appropriate Sabre applications and install them at the local workstation. This option resembles the standard Sabre installation practice in which you use the SETUP MENU switch. Follow the next steps for a Custom installation with Download and Installation. The Sabre Download Status screen displays in addition to the standard download screens to inform you of the download progress. 5. When the Installation Complete window appears, click Finish to close this window and restart the workstation. You are now ready to use the Sabre for Windows v4.5g software on this workstation. 20 Custom Installation Download and Install for the LAN If you selected a Custom installation with a Download and Install for the LAN, you have the flexibility to select and download the appropriate Sabre applications and install them at the local workstation and over your entire local area network. Follow the next steps for a Custom installation with Download and Installation for your local network. The workstation that will be running the Sabre Job Server Utility will be installed with the Sabre 4.5G Workstation Preparation Diskette. All other workstations must have at least the Sabre 4.4G Workstation Preparation Diskette installed. You may create a Sabre Workstation Preparation Diskette by selecting option #4 in the Custom menu. Select Software The Select Software window displays. Installation Steps 1. Select all appropriate products needed to complete the installation. Click Next. Note: Choose all the appropriate applications for all workstations that you will be installing. 2. A window displays providing the option to search the network for components or software related to the previous application list. 23 5. When the download of the Sabre applications is complete, the Sabre Job Server Utility appears. For additional information on the Sabre Job Server Utility, click the Help button. Sabre for Windows v4.5g Installation Guide February 2002 Custom Installation Download and Install for the LAN 23
24 6. Do one of the following: a. If you want to upgrade all Sabre workstations, click Select All. b. If you want to upgrade selected workstations, highlight the workstations to be upgraded in the Active Workstations window. To select more than one workstation, press CTRL and highlight each workstation to select. 7. Click Run Job to start the upgrade. After each selected workstation is installed, the workstation automatically reboots itself and the Sabre Job Server proceeds to update the next workstation on the list. The workstation running the Sabre Job Server Utility will be installed last and will not reboot allowing you to determine the status of the installation. Note: The Active Sabre Workstations windows will display a ~ next to each workstation installed or upgraded. 8. Reboot the workstation running the Sabre Job Server Utility, if you installed Sabre Software on it.
