V5C 2K1 Fax: (604) MEMORANDUM Date: 10 January 2014 From: epass Tech Support Subject: epass Installation The Following steps are based on Windows XP and may vary slightly with other versions of Windows. * Notes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, & Windows 8 Users Before installing anything, you must first turn User Account Control (UAC) off. To do this go to Control Panel -> User Accounts and then click on User Accounts. You will see the option Turn User Account Control on or off. epass Updates do not operate properly when UAC is turned on, so you may want to leave it off permanently. UAC is very similar to giving a Windows User very low security; it does not allow a program to copy files to the local hard drive. This is a very important function of the epass Updates program. Radmin 2.X does not work with Windows Vista. If you are installing Radmin, you must use version 3.X or higher. If you do not have a copy of Radmin 3.0 Server, you can download it at Cache Installation 1) Install Cache For the Server, select Development For Terminals, select Client 2) Follow prompts on screen, take all defaults. 3) If installing cache 2011 there should be a folder with the install application which contains 3.dll files. Copy those files to either c:\windows\system32 or c:\windows\syswow64 based on the type of operating system you have installed. 3) Restart machine to complete installation epass Installation Terminals Only 1) On the cdrom go to the \epass\install folder and dbl click the Setup program 2) Click OK to Start, It is recommended to change the Installation to install epass in c:\epass as opposed to the default location. Then Click the Install button to begin the installation. 3) epass Installation should complete in about a minute. If you get any Version Conflicts during the install, click yes to keep the file currently on your system. 4) Ensure that the updatespath.ini file has the correct path to the server. Open the epass folder (c:\epass) and open epassupdates check the replace files box in the bottom corner then press start. * Note in Windows 8 mapped drives are

2 sometimes not recognized in the UpdatesPath.ini file. You should always use the full network path instead of the mapped drive letter for Windows 8. 5) In the epass folder open the MakeDSN application. A confirmation that DSN connections have been created should appear. 6) If this is a Windows 8 computer, you must set PASS.exe to run as an Administrator. To do this, right click on PASS.exe and click on Properties. Then go to the Compatibility tab and check the highlighted box at the bottom of the page. Configuring your epass Shortcut Branch / Terminal settings 7) The epass Shortcut needs to be configured to match your Branch and Terminal Settings. Each terminal in your corporation should have a unique terminal number. They can just be incremented as you add new terminals, or if you are replacing a terminal you can use the old terminal number. Click Start All Programs epass Right Click on the epass Icon and Left Click on Properties:

3 On the Target Line, the entries after PASS.exe mean the following: Company1 This is the company you are connecting to, unless you have multiple companies, it will always be Company1. First 1 Branch Which Branch does this terminal belong to. This Branch code must exist in epass System Maintenance and is case sensitive. Second 1 Terminal What is this Terminal Code, typically a number. This Terminal code must exist within the Branch it is defined. Follow these same instructions for each database you have set up, as well as for the shortcuts on your desktop. Adding or modifying another icon / database connection Go to the C:\ePASS folder and edit the PASS.ini file. If you want to edit the IP address or then change the IP Address for COMPANY1 to be the same as your Server. If you want to add another database connection, copy the entire 6 line section and paste it below with a space between. Then change the information appropriately, and create a new shortcut using the instruction in the previous section. Setting printers for reports/labels in epass File -> terminal setting -> printers tab Select which printers you would like to use for each task. If you do not select a printer for a task it will use the default printer. Sometimes epass will show that you have selected your desired printer but will not print to it. To fix this select a different printer for that task then select the one you wish to use..net Framework If your terminal is receiving Windows updates you should already have this installed but if your terminal crashes when going to Invoice Detail you may require the.net Framework to be installed. This is also required if you are using the credit card/debit processing module of epass. It can be downloaded from

4 Or is on the epass Installation CD in the.net Framework folder. You may experience problems starting epass. If epass fails to launch with an error: For a 32 bit Machine - copy the contents of the put these files in system32 folder folder into the c:\windows\system32 folder. For a 64 bit machine copy those same files to the c:\windows\syswow64 folder. You do not need to do anything other than copy these files. Confirming the MakeDSN application correctly created DSN connections Sometimes the MakeDSN application will not properly create the ODBC connections that allow your computer to connect to the database. To check that the connections where created correctly go to the following location: For 64 bit computers: Go to c:\windows\syswow64\odbcad32.exe For 32 bit computers: Go to c:\windows\system32\odbcad32.exe Next select the system tab at top of the application. There should be 2 connections COMPANY1 and COMPANY2.

5 If the connections have been created correctly you should see all the fields filled in. if they are blank we will need to fill them in. All of the fields should match the image above except for the Host(IP Address) it will need to match the IP address of the server. For COMPANY2 the only diffrence is the Name and cache Namespace are COMPANY2 The password will be SYS Thank you, R&D Support Department.
