2 1 System requirements and user rights ensuite is a PC software system running on Java. The following minimum system requirements exist for an ensuite installation: Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10 A graphics board with a resolution of at least pixel Mouse 10 GB free space on harddisk 1 GB RAM Java SE 8 (32-bit or 64-bit) The installation requires administrator rights. During ensuite operation, only the rights to execute the software as well as read/write access to the user directory (e. g. C:\documents and settings\<user name>) is required. 2 ensuite installation instruction The enclosed CD resp. the ensuite download area on the Elster-Instromet homepage contains the installation program for the software ensuite. The screenshots shown in this section may differ depending on the software's configuration and operating system. The following steps are required to install the software: 1. If the installation files are present as a compressed file (ZIP file), extract it to a directory. 2. Switch to the "ensuite" folder in the CD content folder resp. in the directory where the extracted files are stored. 3. If you are using the 32-bit version of Java, then run the file "ensuite_windows_[version].exe" (32-bit); if you are using the 64-bit version of Java, then run the file "ensuite_windows64_[version].exe" (64-bit). The name of this file may be different depending on the software's version. Page:2/15

3 4. The installation wizard starts and the following window opens: Figure 1 5. Go to the next window by clicking the "Next" button. Figure 2 If necessary, you can change the folder in which the software is to be installed (by clicking the "Browse " button). The selected folder is automatically created if it does not already exist. Page:3/15

4 6. Go to the next window by clicking the "Next" button. Figure 3 This window allows you to specify the program groups in which the program shortcut should be installed. By default, the shortcut is created in the program group "Elster". 7. Go to the next window by clicking the "Next" button. Figure 4 This window allows you to choose whether a shortcut to the program should also be installed on your desktop, in addition to the shortcut in the start menu. Page:4/15

5 8. Go to the next window by clicking the "Next" button. Figure 5 Installation progress is displayed in this window. The next window opens automatically after the installation is completed. The installation wizard is completed and the ensuite can be started. Page:5/15

6 3 Additional device-specific installation activities Known Issue: Important for USB 3.0 controller by Renesas Electronics (former NEC) If you are using a USB 3.0 controller by Renesas Electronics, such as the widespread upd720200/upd720200a, make sure that your controller drivers have the version or higher. Older versions of the drivers are known for having a bug that prevents access to USB devices. 3.1 encore devices (e.g. FC1, Q.Sonic plus ) Installation of the USB device driver If USB should be used to establish a connection between ensuite and an encore device, further installation of an USB device driver is necessary when at least one of following cases are true: ensuite is running on a Windows 7 computer. The encore device is running with a firmware prior to version ensuite 3.1 (and higher) is using advanced USB drivers, which allow to automatically install the appropriate drivers for our encore FC1 device series on modern Windows computers. Hence, no further steps are required to install or update the USB device driver, when you are connecting FC1 devices with (or higher) to a Windows 8 computer (or higher). We recommend using the open source tool Zadig for the USB driver installation. The tool is certified by Akeo Consulting and does not require an installation. The following steps describe the USB driver installation with the tool Zadig both, the generic WinUSB driver and the tool Zadig are available in the ensuite installation folder: 1. Open the node \drivers\zadig of the ensuite installation folder. 2. Run the file zadig_[version].exe with administrator rights. 3. You may need to confirm the User Account Control (UAC) dialog. 8 The appropriate configuration for Elster encore devices is preset. F.i. as shown in the screenshot: the driver WinUSB (v ) for the USB devices with vendor ID = 1C29 and product ID for Elster encore devices = 10FC will be installed. 6. Start the installation with Install Driver. Figure 11 In the dialog Installing Driver the current status is displayed. In case additional steps are required please follow the instructions. 9 Manual driver update or installation Windows 7 only! Alternatively, Windows 7 does allow the manual installation or update of unsigned drivers. In short: Connect the device to the Windows 7 computer. If Windows cannot find a suitable driver (i.e. the old driver has not been installed), open the Windows Device Manager. In the device tree go to node Other devices/elster encore device it is marked with an error. In the context menu select Update Driver Software. Navigate to the ensuite installation folder and select the subfolder drivers. The message Windows can t verify the publisher of this driver software is displayed; select Install this driver software anyway. Unistall the USB device driver from a previous ensuite installation If you were updating ensuite and an USB driver had already been installed, unistall the previous USB driver as soon as the encore device is connected. 1. Open the Windows Device Manager. 2. Look for the Elster encore device in the device tree usually it is located below the node libusb devices. 3. In the context menu select Uninstall. 4. At the end of the deinstallation close the Windows Device Manager. Next time the device is connected, it will be listed below the node Universal Serial Bus devices in the Windows Device Manager. 3.2 LIS-200 devices Installation of the IR readout head with USB interface under Windows XP If the Elster IR readout head with USB interface (Elster Order No ) should be used under Windows XP to establish a connection between ensuite and a LIS-200 device (EK2x0, DL2x0), further installation and configuration activities are necessary. It is important to note that for the installation of the IR readout head with USB interface two steps have to be carried out: First, the driver for the USB Serial Converter (sometimes labelled as USB Infrarot-Adapter in the installation menu) is installed. This is followed by the installation of the USB Serial Port driver. The following description assumes that no installation of the Optical Readout head with USB interface has been carried out. 1. The Found New Hardware Wizard is started automatically after the IR readout head with USB interface is connected. Page:9/15

10 Because the necessary driver is included on the driver CD supplied with the IR readout head, it is not necessary to connect to the Windows update web site. After option No, not this time is chosen, click button Next to start the installation process. Figure Insert the supplied driver CD on request and start the installation in automatic mode. After the CD is inserted, chose option Install the software automatically (Recommended) and click button Next. Figure 15 Page:10/15

11 3. The driver for the USB Serial Converter will be installed. Figure After the installation is done, click button Finish to finish the first installation step. Figure 17 Page:11/15

12 5. The Found New Hardware Wizard is started again to install the driver for the USB Serial Port. Again the driver on the supported driver CD is installed. Therefore chose option No, not this time and click button Next. Figure If the CD was removed in the meantime, insert it again and start the installation in automatic mode. If necessary insert the CD again, chose option Install the software automatically (Recommended) and click button Next. Figure 19 Page:12/15

14 9. Check the COM port number of the USB Serial Port. After the installation process is completed successfully, it is necessary to find out which COM port is assigned to the USB Serial Port. This information can be found in the Device Manager located in the Control Panel. In section Ports (COM & LPT) the USB Serial Port is listed including the COM port assignment (in this example COM3) Figure Configure ensuite to use the installed IR readout head with USB interface. In ensuite menu Tools/Options chose register Interfaces and set the COM port for Optical connections according to the information in the Device Manager. Page:14/15
