4 1 INTRODUCTION The Amplivox NOAH Audilink software allows audiometric data to be transferred via the USB socket on the Model 240, 260 & 270 diagnostic audiometers to a personal computer (PC) installed with the NOAH database application. NOAH Audilink version 2.0 can transfer air conduction thresholds (THL), uncomfortable loudness levels (ULL)*, bone conduction levels and speech score percentage vs. levels*. Note: ULL s and speech score percentage vs. levels can be uploaded from Amplivox audiometers that already have these features. NOAH Audilink version 2.0 can only be used with Amplivox 260 audiometers having serial numbers of and higher. For 260 audiometers having serial numbers below 12425, use NOAH Audilink version 1.0. This document provides the instructions for installing the software and guidance on the use of the software to transfer data to NOAH. 5 2 INSTALLATION 2.1 OVERVIEW INSTALLATION Installation is a straightforward process but the steps must be carried out in the correct order. To ensure you are familiar with the instructions please read this entire user manual before commencing installation. It is recommended that all users first upgrade to at least NOAH version 4.2. Note: If existing NOAH 4 users cannot upgrade to version 4.2, refer to Section b) within Part 5 Troubleshooting. Installation is a two-stage process (please ensure both are completed): With the audiometer disconnected from the PC: Install the NOAH Audilink software on the PC as described in Section 2.2. With the audiometer still disconnected from the PC: Install the Amplivox device drivers to enable USB communication between the PC and the audiometer as described in Section NOAH AUDILINK INSTALLATION Insert the Amplivox Operating Manuals and PC Application CD into the CD drive of the PC. On the CD, navigate to the NOAH Audilink folder and double click on SetupLauncher.exe to run it. This program will detect whether NOAH 3 or NOAH 4 is installed and open the relevant setup.exe program. Note: Windows may have to update the Microsoft.NET software before installation commences. The window below will then be displayed. Note: If NOAH 4 is installed on the PC, NOAH4 Driver will be shown in the installation Windows. Select Next, or Cancel to stop the installation. 3

6 INSTALLATION If you wish to install the program into the displayed directory, select Next. Otherwise select the desired location first. Confirm that you wish the installation to proceed by selecting Next. The progress of the installation will be displayed please wait while this proceeds. 4

7 INSTALLATION When the installation has been completed the following window will be displayed: Select close to complete the NOAH Audilink installation. If requested, restart the PC. Note: A screen resolution of 96DPI (Normal Size) is recommended in order that NOAH Audilink software displays correctly. This can be changed in Windows Control Panel if required. 2.3 USB DEVICE DRIVER INSTALLATION Install the USB Drivers as described in the Amplivox Operating Manual for USB Driver Installation (OM032). This can be found in the USB Drivers folder within PC Applications on the supplied CD. Do not connect the audiometer to the PC until instructed to do so. If the latest version of the USB drivers are already installed, for example if an Amplivox audiometer or tympanometer has previously been connected to the PC, performing the installation again is not necessary. However, there are no adverse consequences in doing so the steps f), g) & h) in Section 3 of the Operating Manual for USB Driver Installation will be skipped, and when connected your instrument will be immediately ready for use. 5

8 TRANSFER 3 TRANSFER 3.1 AUDIOMETER MAINTENANCE The CA850 audiometer is a precision instrument. Handle it carefully in order to ensure its continued accuracy and service. When cleaning the instrument, first disconnect it from the mains supply. Use a soft cloth and mild detergent to clean the instrument panel when required. Refer to ISO for additional guidance. 3.2 TRANSDUCER MAINTENANCE Air conduction (THL and ULL), bone conduction and/or speech test results may be transferred to NOAH as follows: 1) Ensure that the audiometer is switched on and connected to the PC. 2) Ensure that the required audiogram is loaded and displayed as the current audiogram in the audiometer. It may be necessary to load the required test data from the internal memory of the audiometer. Refer to the audiometer operating manual for details of this operation. 3) Start NOAH in the usual way. 4) Open a session for an existing client or register a new client. Note: NOAH Audilink cannot be used with unregistered clients. 5) Refer to the relevant section below: NOAH 3 a) Select Module Selection from the File->Modules drop-down menu: OR open by clicking on the Open Module Selection icon and select Audilink from within the Module Selection Window (see below): 6

9 TRANSFER b) Select Fetch from Instrument, or Exit to close the NOAH Audilink window. Note: If any other method is used to close this Window, due to NOAH s instability it will be necessary to reboot the PC. After a short delay, the uploaded data will be added to the NOAH Session Browser window as a folder with date and time of upload. c) Select the desired results from the NOAH Session Browser window. Then select the Open Audiogram Module icon from the toolbar (see above). NOAH 4 a) Click on in the main NOAH window. The Window below will be displayed. 7

10 TRANSFER b) After a short delay, the uploaded data is added to the NOAH Session window with date and time of upload. c) To view the audiogram, either click on or select the desired results displayed in the NOAH Session window: 6) After NOAHaud module has opened, select Pure Tone to display AC, BC and ULL results. Select Audiometer in order to view any previously uploaded measurement data. 7) Select Speech to display speech results. It may be necessary to first set up a speech test in NOAH (refer to Part 4). Note: NOAH cannot display speech results below 0dBHL. 8

11 4 SETTING UP A NEW SPEECH TEST IN NOAH SETTING UP A NEW SPEECH TEST IN NOAH The first time Speech results are viewed in NOAH it may be necessary to perform the following steps: 1) Open NOAHaud and Select Tools -> Global Options -> Speech Tests -> New. 2) Type in a test name and select (for example) Discrimination/Air Conductor/ Unaided/No Word List from the drop down menus. Select OK when complete. 3) Select the new test from the list then Edit to add symbols and line styles. 4) Select Apply and OK. 5) Then select Tools -> Profile Options -> Speech -> Palette Options. 6) Locate the new test in the left column and add it to the right column. Remove any unwanted tests from the right column. 7) Select OK and the new test s button will appear on the right hand side of the Speech graph. Click on the left or right of the new test button (example below is called Test1) to display speech results. If prompted to Create new action, select Yes. 9

12 TROUBLESHOOTING 5 TROUBLESHOOTING a) If the above instructions are followed correctly the transfer of audiometric data should proceed in a straightforward manner. If difficulties occur please refer to the following for guidance. If readings do not appear in the NOAH window, check that the audiometer is switched on and connected, and that there are valid readings to upload. If no speech data appears, refer to Part 4. Do not initiate a data upload more than once without waiting at least a minute between attempts. (Note: the error handling capabilities of NOAH are limited and no error messages can be supplied to warn of the above conditions.) Do not switch off or disconnect the audiometer while data transfers are in progress or being attempted (Note: NOAH can become extremely unstable in these circumstances and may not run again until the PC is re-booted; stopping NOAH with Task Manager may not be sufficient). Please refer any difficulties with the use of NOAH to HIMSA technical support. If an audiometer is not connected to the computer or the USB driver has not been installed, the message below will be shown if attempting to upload results: If power is not connected to the audiometer, the message below will be shown if attempting to upload results: b) If NOAH Audilink has to be used with a version of NOAH 4 earlier than 4.2, HIMSA advise copying the folder called: Schemas (C:\Program Files\HIMSA\Noah 4) to the location: C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\assembly\GAC_MSIL\CommonUtil\v4.0_ d06f3c4ff49355 Then re-start NOAH 4. 10

13 TROUBLESHOOTING c) If (following USB device driver installation) persistent Windows warning messages appear every time the audiometer is connected to the computer the USB drivers may need updating. Open Device Manager within the Windows Control Panel and refer to the troubleshooting section of OM032, the Amplivox Operating Manual for USB Driver Installation. 11
