1 Software Announcement April 18, 2000 IBM DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1 Extends Scalability, Usability, and Performance to Your Enterprise Overview The DB2 OLAP Server is a scalable, industrial-strength Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) software that enables you to build sophisticated decision support, planning, and analysis applications for your enterprise. DB2 OLAP Server provides a fast path to turn your warehouse data into business insight. It delivers speed of thought query performance to a large set of online users. It is built for e-business with tools to help you quickly deploy Web-based analytical applications. DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1, based on Hyperion Essbase 6.0, provides significant improvements, in the areas of functionality, scalability, performance, and usability, over the previous release, DB2 OLAP Server Version 1.1. Attributes, such as colors and sizes can now be defined and analyzed easily. It lets you do detail analysis without increasing the size of your cube. Overall performance of system is improved. A reduction of 20% of combined Load and Calc time has been observed in internal benchmarks based on a mixture of customer applications. Flexibility in storage is extended to the application level. Depending on individual application needs, the cube can be stored in either DB2 for added flexibility of SQL access, or the multidimensional storage for optimal performance. Improved scalability enables analysis at much finer levels of detail with: Support of large outlines Enhanced concurrent operations Optimized I/O operations Large data export capability Richer calculation functions, including statistical, allocation and forecasting, and member set functions, are added to extend application capabilities. New features in Spreadsheet Add-in include the new Essbase Query Designer and support of attributes to enhance your usability and productivity. DB2 OLAP Integration Server, a new add-on product to DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1, lets you map and transfer data from relational database to OLAP cubes quickly and easily. DB2 OLAP Server Allocations Manager, another new add-on product, provides a graphical interface and several commonly employed allocation methods, to decrease development and maintenance time for complex business allocations. DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1 is shipped with a copy of the new DB2 Universal Database Version 7.1, which contains significant functional enhancements, including the DB2 OLAP Server Starter Kit. DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1 operates on Windows NT, Windows 2000, AIX, Sun Solaris, and HP-UX servers across TCP/IP networks connected to Windows and UNIX clients. Named Pipes are also supported for the Windows operating system. 2 What s New in DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1 DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1 is based on Hyperion Essbase 6.0, and contains a number of significant improvements over DB2 OLAP Server Version 1.1. Storage Flexibility at Application Level : DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1 further extends the flexibility of data storage to satisfy your application processing requirements. Based on the individual application needs, the cube can be maintained in: A DB2 UDB relational database for additional SQL access or A multidimensional store for ultimate performance The choice of storage is transparent to the Essbase API and to many vendor tools using this API. Sophisticated, Economical Attribute Analysis: Attributes are characteristics of your data. For example, products can have attributes such as colors, sizes, or flavors. DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1 provides a number of attribute-related features that help you define and store attribute information and analyze attribute data in meaningful ways. You can use attribute dimensions and members in the outline to define attributes. Attribute dimensions and members are Dynamic Calc. Therefore, attribute data is not stored in the database and outlines may be smaller. Through the system-defined Attribute Calculations dimension, DB2 OLAP Server provides access to five consolidations of all attribute data: Sums Counts Averages Minimums Maximums Flexibility at retrieval time means that viewing attribute data is optional. You can create meaningful summaries of the data through crosstabs. For example, you can see the total sales of grape-flavored soda packaged in 12-ounce cans. You can selectively view just the data you want to see through type-based comparisons of: Text Numeric Boolean Data Optionally, you can use numeric attributes to group and summarize attribute data by ranges of values. For example, you can analyze your data by population ranges such as 0 through , through , and so on. Three new attribute-related functions are added: In addition, all relevant functions are enhanced to support attribute processing or calculations. performance for outline-related operations including the following: Outline editing Dimension building Restructuring Calculating Enhanced Concurrency for Enterprise Operations Users can now log into the OLAP server and load/unload multiple applications in parallel. You can speed up parallel login processing by using a new command-line parameter, quicklogin, which caches the security file and writes it to disk at specified time intervals. You can perform the following tasks simultaneously: Starting multiple applications. Stopping multiple applications. Logging on multiple users. Users can log on when an application is loading or the database is recovering. Optimized I/O Operations: When the multidimensional storage is used, the OLAP server employs direct I/O (input/output) and no-wait I/O on most server platforms and file systems. This means the server directly caches the index and data files (page files) and is able to perform asynchronous, overlapped I/Os, providing the following benefits: Faster response time. A user waits less time for the server to return data. Better scalability and predictability. It is easier to determine the optimal cache sizes for the cubes. Richer Calculation Functions Member set functions Statistical functions Allocation and forecasting functions Relationship functions Date and time functions Calculation method function New Features in the Spreadsheet Add-in A More Powerful Interface to Create Queries: A new Essbase Query Designer (EQD) replaces the Retrieval Wizard to create queries for reports. This feature enables you to: Design a layout for the report Select members (including attributes) for the report Perform member filtering Perform data filtering Perform data sorting Support for Attributes You can view attributes in reports by typing the name of the attribute directly in the spreadsheet, using member selection, or using the Essbase Query Designer. You can also apply styles to attributes to identify them in the spreadsheet. New Client Platforms The Spreadsheet Add-in supports Microsoft Excel 2000 and Lotus Millennium Release 9 and 9.1. Support for Large Outlines: DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1 supports large outlines by improving

3 Large Data Export Capability: DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1 imposes no limitation on the size of data files you can export. The only limitations are the maximum file size and volume size allowed by your operating and file systems. Import file size remains limited to 2 GB. DB2 OLAP Integration Server: DB2 OLAP Integration Server 7.1 is a new add-on product, which is an enhanced version of Hyperion Integration Server 1.0. The Integration Server enables you to map and transfer the relevant data in a relational database to an OLAP database quickly and easily. Use the Integration Server to: Create a logical OLAP model from tables, views, and columns in your relational database Access the OLAP model to create a metaoutline containing the structure and rules required to generate an Essbase outline Access the metaoutline to create and populate an OLAP cube Drill from the summarized, calculated, and derived data managed by DB2 OLAP Server into detail data stored in relational databases New in the Integration Server are usability enhancements: Easy-to-Use Assistants to step you through the process of creating or modifying an OLAP model and a metaoutline. Assistant Inline Help explains the purpose of each tab you encounter while creating OLAP models and metaoutlines. Assistant Online Help for more detailed information about assistant tabs and functions. Windows Help for this release appears in the new WinHelp 2000 format that resembles an HTML page. Task and Conceptual Overviews for conceptual information about OLAP models or metaoutlines or to view task flow information for the assistants. New Preview Options to view filters and transformations in a sample outline. You can view a sample outline for OLAP models and metaoutlines, or the results. Prefix or Suffix to generate unique member names from columns contained in a hierarchy. Allocations Manager: DB2 OLAP Server Allocations Manager 7.1 is another new add-on product that assists enterprise-scale business analysis by managing the complex process of allocating revenues, costs, and capital expenditures across organizations, products, and customers. The Allocations Manager provides a graphical interface and equips users with several commonly employed allocation methods to decrease development and maintenance time for complex business allocations, reducing the dependency of end users on technical staff and freeing them to focus more time on value-added business activities. DB2 OLAP Server Allocations Manager 7.1 is based on Hyperion Allocations Manager 1.5. A New Release of Objects: 7.1, based on Hyperion Objects 2.0, is available with the following improvements: Support of Attributes Support of Essbase Query Designer Support of Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Improved serviceability of grid and chart objects Version 7.1 will be available on September 29, DB2 Universal Database Version 7.1: DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1 is shipped with a copy of the new DB2 Universal Database Version 7.1, which contains significant functional enhancements, including the DB2 OLAP Server Starter Kit. Functionally based on DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1, the DB2 OLAP Server Starter Kit lets users of DB2 Universal Database Version 7.1 explore online analytical capabilities before acquiring the full product, DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1, for more complex analysis or deployment to large groups of users. Applications developed by the DB2 OLAP Server Starter Kit can continue to be extended and used in the full product. The Information Catalog Manager, a component of the DB2 Warehouse Manager in DB2 Universal Database Version 7.1, is also shipped with DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1. The Information Catalog Manager can be used to publish OLAP and relational data objects to help end users and administrators understand what data and information resources are in the data warehouse. Windows 2000 Readiness: DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1 is Windows 2000 ready. You can now uninstall the OLAP Server from Windows platforms. MERANT (Intersolv) ODBC Drivers: MERANT ODBC drivers Version 3.11 are provided with the SQL Interface and the Integration Server. SQL Drill Through: SQL Drill Through, which was part of the DB2 OLAP Server Tools Bundle Version 1.1, will no longer be available in DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1. For backward compatibility, you can use SQL Drill Through from DB2 OLAP Server Version 1.1 clients with patch 9, or later, and connect to DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1. Year 2000 This product does not have date dependencies and is therefore Year 2000 ready. Product Positioning DB2 OLAP Server is complementary to a number of IBM and non-ibm products, including: Essbase-Ready ISV Products: Many ISV desktop tools and applications use the Hyperion Essbase API to access multidimensional data. As the same API is transparently supported by DB2 OLAP Server, these ISV tools can now seamlessly expand their products to the relational marketplace. SQL Tools: When the relational storage manager is used, SQL Tools can query the star schema and can join the star schema with other relational tables. When used with the DataJoiner product, joining of data can involve relational and non-relational operational sources

4 DB2 Data Warehouse Center and DB2 Warehouse Manager: These warehouse management facilities in DB2 Universal Database Version 7.1 give you an integrated, managed environment to transform, create, and maintain data marts and data warehouses. It can automate the loading, updating, and recalculating of the star schema tables and multidimensional cubes in the DB2 OLAP Server from a variety of data sources. The Information Catalog Manager, part of the DB2 Warehouse Manager and shipped with DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1, can also publish descriptions of the DB2 OLAP multidimensional models to end users. DB2 OLAP Server Starter Kit: Functionally based on DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1, the DB2 OLAP Server Starter Kit, shipped with DB2 Universal Database Version 7.1, allows the DB2 users to explore online analytical capabilities before acquiring the full product, DB2 OLAP Server Version 7.1, for more complex analysis or deployment to large groups of users. Applications developed by the DB2 OLAP Server Starter Kit can continue to be extended and used in the full product. Hyperion WIRED for OLAP: Hyperion WIRED for OLAP is an OLAP-centric presentation, analysis, and reporting tool suite that gives you collaborative analytics, enterprise-wide deployability, and ease of use. It leverages the performance, scalability, and analytical power of DB2 OLAP Server, giving users point-and-click access to advanced features. It is enterprise-class, with a scalable three-tier architecture and a suite of four interoperable Windows and 100% Pure Java clients that allow organizations to deliver information to large user communities at a low cost of ownership. DB2 Intelligent Miner for Data: IBM Intelligent Miner helps companies identify and extract high-value business intelligence from data assets. Through a process of knowledge discovery, organizations can leverage hidden information in its data, uncovering associations, patterns, and trends that can lead to real competitive advantage. Customers can benefit from using DB2 Intelligent Miner for Data and DB2 OLAP server in the same solution. Data mining can be used to enrich the information content available to an OLAP user and strengthen the analysis capabilities of those users. For example, market segmentation can be represented as a dimension of the cube, and the clustering algorithm used to discover that segmentation can shed light on significant attributes to be considered as additional dimensions. Once a predictive model produced by Intelligent Miner is used to score individual customers or prospects, those scores can be used to determine the clip level for the data to be included in a cube and appear as a dimension of the cube. Trademarks Data mining and business analysts alike can leverage the analytic capabilities of OLAP to better understand and analyze mining results. As data mining results are integrated into the warehouse and OLAP cubes, a consistent business perspective is presented to a broader range of Business Intelligence (BI) users. DB2 OLAP Server is an enterprise-scale, online analytical processing system for a wide-range of multidimensional reporting, analysis, modeling, and planning applications. DB2 OLAP Server is based on Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server. By utilizing a relational data store, DB2 OLAP Server uses DB2, the industry-leading relational database, to store fact and dimension tables, which comprise the star schema, to meet your business requirement. Parallel relational technology can be exploited to deliver improved access performance. The DB2 OLAP Server can be managed by familiar RDBMS system management, backup, and recovery tools allowing businesses to leverage their existing skill and technology investment. DB2 OLAP Server also offers the advantage of providing access to data in the star schema using standard structure query language (SQL). 6 Application Programming Interface lets you use standard tools to create custom DB2 OLAP Server applications that take advantage of the powerful data storage, retrieval, and analytical capabilities of DB2 OLAP Server. The Application Programming Interface supports Visual Basic, C, C++, and other application development environments, and works with Windows 95/98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and UNIX. Extended Spreadsheet Toolkit includes more than 20 macros and Visual Basic (VBA) functions, letting you build custom Lotus or Microsoft Excel applications that tightly integrate with DB2 OLAP Server. Web Gateway gives you all the essential OLAP features including drill up/down/across, pivot, slice and dice, and full read/write capabilities from standard Web browsers. Web Gateway is Version 1.1 and unchanged from DB2 OLAP Server Version 1.1. itioning Option provides a collection of powerful features that makes it easy to design and administer multidimensional databases (cubes) that span OLAP applications or servers. Note: The DB2 OLAP Server Standard Edition also works with other editions of the DB2 Universal Database including the Enterprise Extended Edition, Version 7.1. DB2 OLAP Server Personal Edition provides a single-user DB2 OLAP system for the Windows NT or Windows 2000 environment and comes with a copy of the DB2 Universal Database Personal. 11 Security, Auditability, and Control The Essbase OLAP engine, which is included with DB2 OLAP Server, provides a comprehensive, multilayered security system. There are security elements and tasks associated with the Essbase data and the data stored in the relational database. The Essbase Security Manager manages Essbase user access to specific Essbase applications, cubes, and individual data cells. When the relational storage manager is used, before the star schema storing the multidimensional data can be accessed by SQL applications, proper authorization must be obtained through the relational database security features. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.
