4 Quick Installatin Guide CD-ROM Installatin Sftware HARDWARE INSTALLATION (Cntrlpad 681) The Cntrlpad 681 is designed t cnnect t a standard RS232C cmpatible serial prt via a standard DB- 9 female plug. A 5vdc regulated AC wall adaptr is included t prvide pwer. Default Cdes Standard ASCII number values (1=31h) Fllwed by ENTER (0Dh) Example (Key # 35) = (31h + 35h +0Dh) Hardware Reset t Factry Settings Unplug pwer frm the keypad Hld dwn any tw keys n the keypad Plug the pwer int the keypad Release the tw keys.

5 HARDWARE INSTALLATION (Cntrlpad 681-U) The Cntrlpad 681-U is designed t cnnect t a standard USB cmpatible prt and creates a virtual serial COM prt within the Windws Operating system. Default Cdes Standard ASCII number values (1=31h) Fllwed by ENTER (0Dh) Example (Key # 35) = (31h + 35h +0Dh) Default Cdes Unplug pwer frm the keypad Hld dwn any tw keys n the keypad Plug the pwer int the keypad Release the tw keys.

6 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION The Cntrlapd 681 includes a CD-ROM which cntains the drivers and applicatins fr all Genvatin prducts. Insert the CD-ROM. The CD-ROM will aut-start t an pening menu. Click n the Cntrlpad 681. Select the Cntrlpad 681 frm the list. Yu can print the manuals, r select t install the MacrMaster681. Fllw the prmpts as they pp-up. Re-bt yur PC when finished. Upgrading? Yu can use this same sftware t perfrm a new installatin r an upgrade. Need special r custm installatin assistance? If yu are wrking in a netwrk envirnment and need t deply the driver sftware r yur custm definitin files acrss the netwrk, cntact ur technical supprt if yu need assistance. (The cntact infrmatin is lcated n page 7 f this manual). Check ur web site fr upgrades. The sub-flder "Macr Files" is the directry lcatin where CntrlPad Definitins are saved and retrieved. The "Help" sub-flder hlds the prgram's internally used help files. The "Keycap Files" sub-flder is the directry lcatin where Keycap Label files are saved and retrieved. When prgramming keycap labels in Micrsft Wrd, find the prvided template files in this directry. BASIC PROGRAMMING METHOD T create and dwnlad custm macr definitins fr the CONTROLPAD 681, fllws these instructins. Click n Start Prgrams Genvatin CONTROLPAD 681 MacrMaster681 Prgram. Basic Macr Prgramming: One level, standard key characters, factry default parameters. Select the key t prgram in the CONTROLPAD 681 key area n the screen (Pint & Left-Click t select a key)

7 Select the key t insert int a macr by pinting t it n the 104 keybard graphic and left-click the muse t select it, r by typing the "green" clred keys n yur standard keybard. Repeat this step fr additinal keys t insert int the macr. Yu can give each key macr a name which may make it easier t remember what the keys functin is. Simply Click n the edit bx called "Name" and type in the name f the key macr. Fr example: Cut, Cpy, r Paste. Yu can create a name fr a key macr n level ne and tw if yu use tw levels. Repeat steps 1 and 2 t prgram ther CONTROLPAD 681 keys. Macrmaster681.exe lks like this.

8 Setting up the Serial COM prt Click n Set Prt buttn t lcate the Cntrlpad 681. If yu already knw the serial prt COM number, then click n the Set COM prt manually selectin, then chse the COM prt yu are using and click OK t save. If yu d nt knw the serial COM prt, then click n the Search fr Cntrlpad autmatically selectin, then the OK buttn t cnnect. When finished, any Cntrlpad 681 devices fund will be listed in the drpdwn bx. Chse the prt yu want and click OK t save. Keypad Prperties Click n the Prperties Buttn t pen the Keypad Prperties windw. This is where yu can mdify the basic serial prt settings and functinality f the Cntrlpad 681. Click the Apply buttn t save any changes made.

9 LED Mde: This prperty sets hw the LED will perate. LED OFF- Disables LED cntrls Level Indicatr - LED shws ON when Level 2 is ACTIVE and OFF when level 1 is ACTIVE LED Under Hst Cntrl - Allws the Hst applicatin prgram t cntrl the LED state. Character Pacing: This prperty cntrls the time delay in between each ASCII byte sent. If yu prgram a key with mre than ne byte f data (String), then the Cntrlpad 681 will send the first byte and delay by the time set in this prperty. Fr Example: Let s assume that a key is prgrammed t send a string f ASCII bytes HELLO. The Cntrlpad 681 will send the fllwing H delay E delay L delay L delay O delay Dwnlad Delay: This prperty is similar t the abve Character Pacing prperty. This prperty cntrls the time delayed between each byte sent t the Cntrlpad 681 during a dwnlad. This value may need t adjusted if errrs ccur during the dwnlad prcess. Cmmand Prefix: This prperty cntrls Cmmand prefix byte which is sent by the hst applicatin t the Cntrlpad 681 as part f an in-line cmmand t cntrl varius keypad functins like clearing the LCD display, changing the LCD cursr type, mving the LCD cursr psitin, activating the internal beeper r alarm, etc. If this prperty is changed, then yu must perfrm a hardware factry reset prir each dwnlad. This is because the dwnlad applicatin uses the default prefix. A full list f the in-line cmmands are prvided in the Cntrlpad 681 Hardware Manual. RS232 Settings :This prperty cntrls the serial COM prt cmmunicatins settings such as baud rate, data bits, stp bits, parity and prtcl. If this prperty is changed, then yu must perfrm a hardware factry reset prir each dwnlad. This is because the dwnlad applicatin uses the default RS232 settings f (9600,8,n,1). Keypad Flw Cntrl: This prperty activates the Xn/Xff flw cntrl prperty and allws yu t change the ASCII value used t cmmand the keypad in and ut f Xn/Xff mde. Basically, the hst applicatin can cmmand the Cntrlpad 681 t Xff r stp transmitting. The keypad will then buffer any keys pressed until the hst sends the Xn cmmand. It will then send the entire cntents f the buffer t the hst applicatin. Key Rllver: This prperty sets hw many keys can be pressed at the same time. The default is tw. This means that after ne key is pressed and held dwn anther key can be detected. If yu select the ne-key rllver ptin then when ne key is held dwn, n ther keys can be detected.

10 PROGRAMMING KEYS Enter the ASCII cdes that yu want t recrd int the selected key lcatin. There are three ways t enter ASCII cdes. Use yur muse t click n the keys yu want t recrd. Use the keybard graphic which is lcated n the bttm f the MacrMaster681 Prgram windw. This will autmatically insert each ASCII cde selected int the black clred grid. Use yur standard keybard, which is already attached t yur PC, t type in the ASCII cdes. Only the green clred keys are available frm yur keybard directly because they represent ASCII text characters. The ther cdes will have t be entered using yur muse. Yu may als enter the actual ASCII cde manually by typing the ASCII cde as a decimal r hexadecimal value and then click the INSERT buttn. SAVE YOUR SET-UP Save yur ASCII cde definitins t a file. This file will cntain all the keypad prperties and the ASCII table needed t dwnlad t the keypad. Click n the "Save as" buttn.

11 Type in a filename and click n "Save". Dwnlad t the Keypad Click n the "Dwnlad" buttn. This will dwnlad the macr definitins frm the filename yu last saved. Testing the Set-Up Test yur wrk. Click n the "Test" Buttn. A windw will pen and yu can test yur Mini-Terminal 9xx set-up here. Select the serial COM prt that the Mini-Terminal is plugged int. Change the serial prt settings if needed. (Baud rate etc) Click n the Open buttn. (Opens the selected COM prt) Any ASCII data received by the test prgram will be displayed in the Serial Data-IN (Receive) text windw. T send a message t the LCD, simply type in a text message in the String windw and click n the Send buttn.

12 Yu may als send cmmand strings by entering the ASCII cde (in Decimal) int either the Start Packet r End Packet. If nthing is entered, then these are ignred. Fr example: Enter the decimal number 64 int the 1 Start Packet byte and enter the decimal number 67 int the 2 Start Packet byte. (This will clear the LCD display.) Nw type Hell Wrld!!! int the String windw. (This will Clear the LCD and then send the message every time yu click the Send buttn). Nw, Enter the decimal number 64 int the 1 End Packet byte and enter the decimal number 66 int the 2 End Packet byte and finally enter the decimal value 50 int the 3 End Packet Byte. This will cmmand the keypad beeper t activate fr 50 millisecnds. Any time the Send key is clicked, the test prgram will send the Start Packet (Clear LCD), then the text message, then activate the beeper fr 50 millisecnds. Advanced Prgramming Tw Level Prgramming: T prgram a key's secnd level, click n the Level 2 tab lcated near the tp f the graphic keybard then prceed t prgram key cdes the same as fr level 1. Delay between characters: T insert a delay/pause int a key definitin,. just set the slider lcated abve the numpad n the keybard graphic t the delay yu want and click n the buttn "Insert Delay". Any delay value can be inserted between 4 millisecnd and 500 millisecnds. 500 millisecnds is equal t?secnd. Fr really lng delays, several delay entries can be successively prgrammed. This functin will stp the transmitting f key data fr the specified time perid. Level Select Key: T access the secnd level f key definitins, a key n the Cntrlpad 681 a key must be chsen as a level select key. There are tw types f level select keys, level shift and level tggle. T select a key t be a level cntrl key, right-click n it and the click n either level shift r level tggle. Level Shift: A level shift key when pressed and held alng with anther key will utput the level 2 definitin f the ther key. Once the level shift key is released, level 1 macrs will again be selected when yu press keys. NOTE: T use the Level Shift key, a minimum f 2 key rllver must be prgrammed under Keypad Prperties since the Shift cntrl key must be pressed and held with anther key t access that key's secnd level macr (the default rllver is 1). Level Tggle: Pressing and releasing the level tggle key will lck the Cntrlpad 681 int level 2 until the level tggle key is pressed and released again Bth Shift and Tggle can each be assigned a key n the Cntrlpad 681. Aut Repeat Enable: Each key n the Cntrlpad 681 can be individually selected t autrepeat. When prgramming a key, the checkbx belw the level tabs n the graphic keybard labeled "This macr can aut-repeat" will determine if the Cntrlpad 681 key selected will aut-repeat. If this bx is nt checked, the key will nt aut-repeat.

13 HOST Applicatin In-Line Cmmands: The Cntrlpad 681 allws the HOST side applicatin t send In-Line cmmands directly t cntrl specific functins. Descriptin: L - 4Ch - Turn LED n/ff Allws a Hst side applicatin prgram t turn the LED ON and OFF by sending a Only bit 0 f the parameter byte is used, s any dd value turns LED n, while any even value turns LED ff. Example: Turn the LED n. Prefix Cmmand Param Type L ^A Dec: Hex: 40h 4Ch 01h Example: Turn the LED ff. Prefix Cmmand Param Type L ^B Dec: Hex: 40h 4Ch 02h

14 T - 54h - Set Keybard Typematic Delay/Rate Descriptin: Sets the keybard repeat values fr initial-delay and repeat-rate.the initial-delay is the amunt f time frm when a key is held befre the key begins t aut-repeat.the repeatrate is the frequency f characters nce the aut-repeat takes effect.nte that these values are subject t ther perating cnditins such as the RS232 character pacing. The frmat f the supplied parameter is identical t the delay/repeat byte the IBM PC uses internally fr its keybard: 0 Delayb6 Delayb5 Rate b4 Rate b3 Rate b2 Rate b1 Rate b0 The base delay value is 0.25 secnds. If b5 is set, then an additinal 0.25 secnds is added t the delay value.if b6 is set, then an additinal 0.5 secnds is added t the delay value.therefre the delay can be frm 0.5 secnds t 1.00 secnds. The repeat-rate (actually a perid) is fastest at 00000b and is apprximately 30 characters/secnd.the slwest rate is 11111b and is equivalent t apprximately 2 characters per secnd. The default pwer-n value fr this parameter is l (lwercase L) which is (6Ch).This prvides a delay f 1 secnd and a repeat rate f 10 characters/secnd. Example:1.00 secnd delay and apprximately 2cps repeat rate.
