Many years of experience have gone into producing LEMO connectors suitable for today s challenging applications. LEMO connectors have been used within the Test and Measurement market for many years and have found use in many different applications. Today LEMO connectors are used in such diverse fields as meteorological data acquisition in the North Sea, telemetry and data logging within Formula 1 and within nuclear physics research, as well as being a standard within the NDT sector. Each application requires a very different connector solution. Whether it is high vibration on Formula 1 cars, excellent environmental properties required in the North Sea or consistent electrical properties within the research environment LEMO are able to meet the customer specifications. PUSH PULL SELF LATCHING SYSTEM The LEMO self latching system allows the connector to be mated by simply pushing the plug axially into socket.

PUSH PULL SELF LATCHING SYSTEM The LEMO self latching system allows the connector to be mated by simply pushing the plug axially into socket. Once firmly latched, connection cannot be broken by pulling on the cable or any other component part other than the outer release sleeve. When required, the connector is disengaged by a single axial pull on the outer release sleeve. This first disengages the latches and then withdraws the plug from the socket. The latching system on theses harsh environment connectors is quick and easy to mate, providing a safe and secure connection. The quick release mechanism is standard. A snatch release option also available where required. MODULAR CONSTRUCTION The modular construction uses COTS components making it easy to select just the right configurations for the ideal connector for each specific application. A very wide range of housings and contact types (including coaxial, triaxial, multipole, high voltage and fibre optics as well as hybrids of all these) provides an enormous range of potential options at competitive prices.

The rugged design of the series allows the connectors to be used in a broad range of applications. The B series is dustproof and is suitable for harsh indoor environments whilst the K series provides a watertight connection to IP68. Both the B and K series connectors offer space saving capabilities over traditional MIL SPEC bayonet locking connectors whilst providing a secure latching mechanism. Contact types include: Unipole, coaxial and triaxial Multipole to 64 way High voltage Fibre optics in both singlemode and multimode Hybrids of all the above S & E SERIES The original LEMO connector style, the S and E series incorporate a hermaphroditic (half moon) insert to provide the method of keying between plug and socket. The rugged design allows the connectors series to be considered for a wide range of test and measurement applications. The S series is dustproof and can be used for indoor applications whilst the E series is sealed to IP68 Both the S and E series have many features which enable them to be considered for all any application or project. F series connectors have been designed to meet demanding requirements in terms of dimensions, weight and watertightness. The series now includes for 7 nominal sizes and provides customers with features including; Sealed to IP67 for environmental protection when mated Compact scoop proof design High shock and vibration resistance Crimp or solder contact, straight and elbow Multipole types with 2 to 66 contacts, multi fibre optic or mixed fibre optic + LV Keyed to ease blind mating Colour coded options for system security FGS FF 304 Y L M is a miniature (6mm diameter) plug connector directly mounted into speed sensors on F1 cars. Contact types include: Multipole to 66 way Fibre optics in both singlemode and multimode Hybrid electro-optic FIBRE OPTIC The growth of fibre optics within all industries has lead to a need for reliable, rugged connection systems. The LEMO range of fibre optic connectors is designed around the B and K series connectors however, fibre options are also available within the F series connector range. This allows standard components to be used in a majority of applications. The LEMO fibre optic connector range is suitable for single mode and multi mode fibres. The fibre ferrules used are capable of handling single mode 9/125 fibre up to 1500µm polymer fibre. The use of ceramic ferrules and ceramic alignment sleeves ensures that alignment of the fibre is always accurate, essential with small diameter single mode fibres. The use of rugged outer shells combined with accurate alignment means that typical insertion losses are 0.10dB and 0.25 db for single mode and multi mode respectively. New developments for LEMO fibre optic ferrules include Angle Polished Contacts. Angle Polished Contacts now provide excellent insertion loss figures combined with improved return loss. Where return loss can effect or damage the source device, APC technology will eliminate that risk by reducing the amount of potential light reflected back up the fibre. The self latching mechanism, whilst being quick to use, provides a secure connection against accidental cable pull. Three sizes of connector are available, all with low voltage, coaxial contacts and hybrids of the two styles available. The best connectors and cables are of little use if failures occur due to dry solder joints, poor crimping, or insufficient fixing of cable jacketing. Fibre optic terminations require proper selection and fixing of ferrules on the fibre, followed by the correct polishing process, whether by hand or machine polished, in order to ensure optimum optical performance. At LEMO every cable assembly is fully inspected to ensure it meets the required standard. Each electrical connector is fully tested for pin-pin continuity, as well having a high voltage test to ensure that there are no potential breakdown problems. All fibre optic terminations are subjected to insertion loss and back reflection tests as required to ensure the highest quality of signal transmission, with test results reordered for every cable. TECHNICAL SUPPORT One of the significant advantages of LEMO connectors is the modular construction combined with the full extent of the range itself. This means that there is nearly always a solution to suit a specific application from the wide choice. Where an immediate solution cannot be identified, the requirements can be achieved through simple modifications, sometimes affecting only a single component. Our team of Field Sales engineers are based throughout the UK and are responsible for providing product and technical information in order to enable the customer to select the connection solution best suited to the application available Once a suitable connector has been selected, sample can be supplied for use in prototypes allowing the customer the ability to confirm the selection of correct connector. If specialised connectors are required then the enquiry is incorporated into the LEMO project management system. The development request is handled either by the LEMO UK design team or within LEMO group projects if it has implications on the existing range. All special connector and cable assembly order items are fully prepared on our CAD system and the resulting drawing is agreed with the customer prior to any work commencing, so that we ensure that the customer is getting exactly what they require.
