8 - Solutions Operating System for Cluster We are scientists, not IT experts. We need a system that works well with our software and frees up time to allow us to focus on what we consider to be the most demanding theoretical and modeling problems. We want the system to work flawlessly at a high level of performance so that we are unaware of it. By providing a single virtual system, the IT complexity is significantly reduced, and while having access to large shared memory for our most demanding larger simulations when needed. Dr. Carol Roberts Research Fellow in the Automotive Engineering lied Research Group at Coventry University (large) System for SMP Since our research requires a large amount of memory and a stable compute environment, we found it very difficult to complete our research with the local resources that were previously available to us. With, I am able to focus on my physics problems without worrying about IT management taking time away from my research. Prof. Jürgen Schnack A faculty member in the Department of Physics at Bielefeld University and head of the MMRG Infrastructure for Cloud provides us with unprecedented flexibility in our cloud infrastructure, which is incredibly valuable for the types of projects we are working on that often have very wide-ranging needs. Using traditional servers or virtualization we are only able to partition our physical systems to accommodate small workloads. Now, using for Cloud, we have the flexibility to dynamically aggregate those same servers to create private on-demand virtual SMP systems for demanding applications.
