1 Manukau Precinct Project 13 March 2015 How are we progressing? Stage 2 of the project is on track to go live on Monday 20 April 2015 Stage 3 of the project will commence on 20 April 2015 with the refurbishment of the of the remaining areas of the original court building What s been happening? Stage 2 of the project has progressed positively and with minimal impacts on operations since it began in late November last year Stage 2 will go live on 20 April with the following new and refurbished areas of the original building open for operation: o New customer service centre o New law library o New tribunals hearing room suite o Refurbished courtroom 13 (the new AVL courtroom) o New AVL instruction room o New office for the Salvation Army and Supervising Duty Lawyer Planning to undertake remedial work in courtrooms 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 9 Planning for the Stage 3 work What s next? Remedial work in courtrooms 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 9 is planned to be completed as part of Stage 2 and before 20 April. This work will be completed sequentially so that no more than one courtroom will be off line at any time Courtrooms 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12 go off line for refurbishment from 20 April until 10 August 1

2 Appearance of defendants by AVL will not be available from 16 March until 20 April Refurbishment of the final area of the ground floor registry area will commence Refurbishment of the area currently occupied by the Criminal jury trial team will commence The court based Probation staff will temporarily relocate to the Probation Office opposite the court until Stage 3 of the project is complete Forensic Services move into a temporary office opposite the new tribunal hearing rooms on level 1 of the original building Courtroom 8 (Family courtroom) will come back on line What s the impact on operations? Only six (6) courtrooms with custodial access will be available from 20 April until the project is completed Some Criminal hearings may need to be rostered into Family courtrooms or transferred for hearing at Papakura Court during Stage 3 of the project All Family and tribunal hearings will be scheduled into dedicated Family courtrooms and tribunal hearing rooms There will be some level of construction noise, however with the way the phasing has been planned we are hoping to minimise the impact What s the impact on customers and stakeholders? The Customer Service Centre becomes the focal point for all customer enquiries from 20 April. The customary Criminal, Family, Civil and Collections counters will close from 20 April 2015 Tribunal hearings and some Family hearings will generally be held in new locations from 20 April 2015 Criminal hearings may be held in courtrooms that vary from the norm while courtrooms 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12 are off line 2

3 The Criminal (Jury Trial) team will temporarily relocate to the jury retiring rooms adjacent to courtrooms 1 and 2 in the new building. Contact can be made with members of the jury trial team by asking staff in the new customer service centre Manukau jury trials will continue to be heard at the Auckland and Papakura District Courts Next relocation milestones The next project update presentations for stakeholders will be held on Tuesday, 24 March and Wednesday, 25 March at 1.15 p.m. in courtroom 4 20 April 2015: Stage 2 building goes live 20 April 2015: Stage 3 refurbishment commences 10 August 2015: Stage 3 building goes live 28 August 2015: Official opening ceremony 31 August 2015: Jury trials return to Manukau DC 3
