1 Digital Creator Award - Level 1 Detailed Syllabus Unit 1 - Digital Audio - This module requires the candidate to capture, edit, enhance and share digital audio for a specified audience. Candidates will work with audio captured from a variety of sources and to edit this audio using computer software. The projects will then be shared in a variety of formats for different destination devices. To plan an audio project for an audience Express an idea for an audio project A clearly expressed and realisable idea for an audio project given the available resources Plan structure of project with consideration of audience A plan that identifies an intended audience and clearly defines the structure of the content of the intended project Import and organise digital audio from different sources Find sources of digital audio Be able to identify different sources of digital audio Import digital audio from different sources Successfully and legally import audio from different identified sources Organise digital audio on a computer Be able to organise the imported audio files on a computer so that they can be easily found again. To compose a short audio sequence using a combination of different audio sources Combine pre-recorded audio loops Use computer software to combine prerecorded loops into a short composition Use recorded audio in the project either real instruments or virtual instruments Record audio into computer software so that it complements the composition created with the pre-recorded audio loops David Baugh
2 To edit a multi track composition Use techniques such as trimming, extending, duplicating and splitting of audio. To successfully edit the audio using a variety of techniques that improves the project Adjust volumes on different tracks Use volume adjustments to equalises levels in an audio project To apply suitable effects to audio tracks Apply effects to audio that enhance of improve an audio project Apply effects that enhance the balance of an audio project Be able to make judgements about the suitability of different effects when applied to audio projects Be able to create an audio project that has a balanced structure To export an audio project in a suitable format for different purposes such as a portable music device Decide on an output destination for the finished project Be aware of the differing possible output destinations available for digital audio projects Export the project to a suitable format Be able to match the intended audio destination to a suitable digital audio format Transfer the exported project to the destination Be able to successfully transfer the exported audio file to a destination device or medium David Baugh
3 Unit 2 - Digital Images - This module requires the candidate to capture, edit, enhance and share digital images for a specified audience. Candidates will work with images captured from a variety of sources and to edit these images using computer software. The projects will then be shared in a variety of formats for different destination devices. To plan a digital images portfolio Express an idea for a digital image portfolio Plan a digital image portfolio for a specific purpose A clearly expressed and realisable idea for a digital image portfolio given the available resources A plan that identifies an intended audience and clearly defines the type of images to be captured and a specified purpose Import and organise digital images from different sources Find sources of digital images Be able to identify different sources of digital images Import digital images from different sources Successfully and legally import images from different identified sources Organise digital images on a computer Be able to organise the imported image files on a computer so that they can be easily found again. To take effective digital stills with awareness of composition and camera settings To edit images so that they are improved Use a camera to compose digital images Use a camera s features to obtain effective digital images Use techniques such as cropping to enhance an image Use a camera to compose and capture images that meet the requirements specified in the plan Successfully use the features of a camera to capture effective images. 5 Unit 3 Digital Video - In this module candidates shall demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of digital video and the ability to take digital video competently. Candidates will be able to import, organise edit and enhance video with the aim of sharing the project with an audience. To plan a digital video project Express an idea for a digital video project Plan a digital video project so that it has a structure suitable for an intended audience A clearly expressed and realisable idea for a digital video project given the available resources A plan that identifies an intended audience and clearly defines the structure of the intended digital video project To import, organise and name digital video clips from a digital video camera onto a computer Find sources of digital video Be able to identify different sources of digital video Import digital video from different sources Successfully and legally import digital video from different identified sources Organise digital video on a computer Be able to organise the imported video files on a computer so that they can be easily found again. To take effective digital video with awareness of the camera features available. To edit digital video clips into a short sequence Use a camera to compose digital video clips with awareness of the techniques used to communicate with digital video Use a camera s features to obtain effective digital video Use captured and imported digital video to create a sequence Use a camera to compose and capture video that meets the requirements specified in the plan Successfully use the features of a camera to capture effective video. 7 Unit 4 - Digital Animation - Candidates will be able to make models and capture animated sequences to tell digital stories. Candidates will understand the importance of sound in animation and be able to combine animation and sound effectively. Skill set Ref. 9 Unit 5 - Sharing Digital Media on optical media - In this module candidates will be able to make an audio CD. They will be able to plan make a DVD that can play on computers and consumer DVD players that includes the following elements: videos, videos with scene selection, image slideshows and music Skill set Ref. Task item Assessment criteria How to make an audio CD Select suitable and legally useable audio into a playlist A clearly selected set of audio files for a defined purpose entered and named in a playlist Burn a selected playlist to an audio CD The production of an Audio CD that is playable on a computer or audio cd player Plan a DVD with menus and sub menus Be able to gather a variety of digital media resources for inclusion on a DVD Make a selection of suitable and legal digital media for inclusion on a DVD Add video into a DVD with a menu for accessing the video Create a DVD photo slideshow Plan a structure for a DVD to include the selected media Using computer software create a menu and add video to this menu Create sub menus that contain further media Select and import legally useable images into DVD editing software A clearly expressed plan for the structure of the DVD using linked menus. Use computer software to create a DVD menu with buttons that allow the user to access the added video Successfully use the features of a computer software program put the planned structure into action The addition of selected images to the DVD project Create a slideshow to play on a DVD The production of a slideshow that plays in a predefined order and has images displayed for the desired length David Baugh

11 Unit 6 - Sharing Digital Media on the Web - In this module candidates will understand how to make their digital media projects available over the Web. Candidates will be able to hyperlink to media projects and understand how to make their projects easily accessible to Web users who have different Web connection speeds. Skill set Ref.
