1 Samsung Galaxy Introduction. Initiating your Samsung This may be the first page you see when you first open a new Samsung Galaxy Tablet. ia

2 This screen shows that the battery is being charged.

3 The battery is fully charged.

4 This is an opening screen. I am not superstitious. If was, I would draw your attention to the date! Follow the instructions to swipe the screen to unlock.

5 You may also get this screen. Slide you finger across to the right to open the next screen.

6 On first ownership you get the opportunity to create a password. To get access to your tablet, subsequently, you must enter your passcode, by touching the numbers.

7 This screen shows the function of the keys mounted on the edge of the Tablet.

8 Accessing your applications If this screen appears, you may want to access the full home page. Touch the square dot matrix, bottom right to access the home page

9 This screen displays the icons for a range of applications. There are more applications available by stroking the screen to the left. Pressing the rounded key in the middle of bottom edge of the frame of the tablet, at any time will return you to this page. The curved back arrow will take you back one display page from your current position The double frame rectangle to the left of the middle button displays two displays at once. It is probably best to leave this function alone, until you are familiar with single functions. Stroking the screen left will display the remaining applications.

10 This screen displays the remaining applications initially loaded to your tablet. To return to the main display of Icons, stroke the screen to the right. In order to connect your tablet via your modem to the internet, you need to enter the wireless key code number. This can be found on your modem. To enter the wireless key, you need to access the settings icon displayed on the previous screen

11 Connecting to Wi-fi Touching the settings icon and then connections will display this screen. A list of nearby radio signals from Modems will be displayed. Make sure your wi-fi signal is switched on (stroke the icon to the right if not switched on ) Identify the modem signal you wish to connect to and touch it

12 This screen will be displayed. Touch the box under Give this account name This will cause the keyboard to be displayed. Type in your address Several features of the keyboard are worth noting. The keyboard displays lower case characters This key changes kays to upper case. The tablet will often often decide whether to enter Upper or lower case text. Highlighted text can be deleted by using this key. A cursor will indicate the entry point entering text. This key will cancel text error characters from the cursor position backwards. These keys move the cursor along a line of text enabling corrections. Enter your name you want to be displayed when sending s

13 A subsequent screen will be displayed asking for your address and password. A subsequent screen allows you to enter the format in which your is to be transmitted e.g. POP3 SMTP or Microsoft Exchange Active sync. Touch which is appropriate for your connection.

14 On the first occasion using the tablet you will be asked to give the tablet an ownership identity. This can be called anything you wish. Touch the home button to display the icon screen display.

15 Touching the home button, will display the range of applications. To use the option, touch the icon. The figure 1 shown next to the icon indicates that there is 1 received and not yet opened.

16 The inbox screen is displayed on this screen. The number 1 in a red circle indicates that 1 has been received and is currently unread. To display the full content of the touch on the and it will open up. The contents of the other boxes can be viewed by touching on each title in the list on the left hand side.

17 If you hold an account on another computer you may see this message, indicating that existing s are being downloaded on to your tablet. This screen is displaying the contents of the Inbox, the headings of which are listed on the right hand side of the screen.

18 By touching on the sent box the headings of s already sent from this tablet are displayed Touching the trash box will display s that you have deleted but not removed from your tablet memory.

19 Mail that is recognised by your computer as being commercial junk (usually from mass ing sources) is automatically routed to the Junk box. Some can still be opened from this location. If one of your contacts has an unusual address it may be misdirected to Junk. Exercise caution when viewing these s. In particular do not open attachments from sources you do not recognise. The safest option is to delete them. Receiving and sending s Opening s. After touching the icon on the apps page, you will see this screen. To view touch the heading on the righthand side of the screen (ie Tuesday).

23 This from the tablet has been received by the laptop computer. In order to initiate an from your tablet, it often best to establish a list of contact addresses. To add addresses to a list of contacts, open you apps page and touch the contacts icon.

24 Touching the contacts page will display the existing contacts in the tablet. To add an new contact touch the plus icon. Type in the name of your contact. Stroke the contact details panel upwards to access the details panel.

25 Type in the address of your contact. Touch the Done key which may be displaying The list of contacts will now display the list, including your latest addition. Touching on Alan Paul will display the address.

29 To access the web you have 2 options available. The internet icon or the google icon. I chose the Google icon. Touch this to go on line. Whe the google page is displayed, type in the name of the item you are searching for. I started to type Ashfield U3A. The tablet anticipated the name when I was half way through and displayed the web address. Touch the suggested web address.

30 The google search displayed the screen shown opposite. There are several options displayed. Touch the main heading at the top to display the Ashfield U3A web site.

31 This is the front a page for Ashfield U3A. This new search is to display maps using Google. Touch maps UK.

32 Google will display two web sites one is co.uk The other.com for American maps. Either will allow to search for any location worldwide. Touch on google maps to proceed,

33 A large scale maps is displayed initially. In the search box type in Kirkby in Ashfield. Several options will be displayed. Touch Kirby in Ashfield

34 On the large scale map. Stroke the screen with you finger to move Kirkby in Ashfield to the centre of the screen. Place your thumb and forefinger, together on the screen and spread them apart while touching the screen. This will enlarge the scale of the map display. Continue to do this, which will display more detailed street information.

35 To take photos with the tablet touch on the camera icon.

36 The screen displayed has several options. The camera icon with arrows top right and bottom left, provides the option of using the lens at the front or the back of the tablet. Touch the camera con on the right of the screen to take a photograph.
