1 Introduction to Using eclass ST MARY'S CANOSSIAN COLLEGE Part A Being an eclass Intranet User Login 1. You can log in eclass at 2. Click on eclass Login ID. 3. Enter your User ID, and Password which has been sent to your address. If you don t have it now, click Forget Password and check your account. Announcement All announcements can be found on the HOME (1 st ) page once you have logged in. All announcement posted in eclass can ONLY be viewed by eclass users. When you login eclass intranet, you can see two types of announcement: 1. Public Announcement refers to the Announcement to the whole school, i.e. ALL students and staff. 2. My Group Announcement refers to the Announcement to a particular group to which the users belong, i.e. Teacher Announcement or Student Announcement. 1. 2 2. Click the Group Setting icon in the group Teacher 3. A Group Setting page will pop up. You can : i. create a message by clicking New ;or ii. edit your own message by checking the box next to the message and then clicking Edit; or iii. delete your own message by checking the box next to the message and then clicking Delete. 4. To create a new announcement, please enter the Start Date and End Date for your announcement. The announcement can ONLY be seen within that period. To add attachments, use the Browse button. To withhold your announcement, check Pending circle. SMCC IT Infrastructure & Logistic 2004 Page 2

3 5. For posting public announcement to the whole school, leave the Target Group empty. For posting announcement to specific groups, select and Add the groups to the Group box. 6. Press Submit to post the announcement. 7. The announcement will then be posted on the Home (1st) page. There are six functions (one of them is optional) in the Group Info for you to communicate with your group members, including Timetable, Chatroom, Bulletin, Share Links, Share Files and Group Settings (Optional). * You may apply the same skill to other functions in Group Info Click Share Links. Add the web link by clicking. You ll see a pop-up window. Choose the appropriate group that you want to share your link with, entering the necessary information and copy the URL of your desired website. Click Submit and you ll find your new link in the pop-up window. Homework List 1. Create new homework Click, fill in the necessary information and then click Submit. 2. View Homework Step 1: Click Step 2: Select one of the class, you will see the To-do-list and History of the class. You may also search by teacher or subject to view homework list. 4 Resources Booking 1. Create a new Periodic Booking To make a booking, click, you will see the following window. Read the instructions and follow the steps list below. Step 1: Choose the category of the intended item. Step 2: Decide the booking frequency: periodic. Step1 Step 2 Step 3: Fill in the necessary items, select the time slot(s) and click Submit. Then you will see a confirm page. Select OK to confirm or Back to edit. eclass Management Go to Classes > eclass Management to create an eclass 1. Click on New to create a new eclass 2. Enter Course Code, e.g. using your Login ID + other number 3. Enter Course Name, Course Description, Users and Maximum Storage. Select subject from the subject list, the information will be shown in eclass directory. 4. Press Submit when you have finished *The Course Code should start with your initial. 5 Part B Using eclass for Online Teaching Function Settings As a teacher of eclass, you can assign different function access rights to different user groups of your eclass. You can enable the student to do the test while disabling the guest to see the test. You may make use of this feature to build up your eclass room from a beginner s mode with basic functions to an Advanced mode with more sophisticated functions at your as well as the users own pace. 1. Go to Course>Settings 2. Under function settings, select a specific function 3. Click Submit Manage Resources There are 3 types of file cabinet in eclass3.0: Personal cabinet all files are view by yourself Student cabinet your students can view or edit files here Teacher cabinet all teachers can copy, move, edit or delete files here Upload and download files to Contents 1. Go to Course>Resources>Files>Contents. Click Upload. 2. Select Single Files / Multiple Files 3. Browse and locate the file that you want to upload and fill in the description 4. Select the group and click ADD. Only added group can access your file. 5. Set access rights of the added group. 6. Click Submit when you finish. 7. You may also click to zip and download your online teaching resources into your own computer. Add Content 1. Go to Course>Contents Builder. Click on New to create a content page for your class. 2. Fill in the page title 3. Select the source of your content, you may use your own materials or a web link. 4. Define the position of this page 5. Select Public or Private to define whether or not you want to publish this page now. SMCC IT Infrastructure & Logistic 2004 Page 5

6 6. Click Continue to attach associated activities. Select Assignment, Exercise and Bulletin to go with this new content page, if you didn t have any associated activities now, you may do it later. 7. Select the group and click ADD. By default, this Content is open to the whole class. You may however give access permission for only certain groups. Click NEW GROUPS if you want to form new groups first. 8. Click Finish when you finish. Manage Content 1. Click organize, you may Public or Private all contents at once 2. You may also re-arrange the index by using Move / Swap / Reset Index Creating an assignment and Marking an assignment 1. Go to Student>Work. Click on New to create an assignment for your class. 2. Fill in the necessary information. Click Answer Sheet if you want to assign a worksheet together with a attach file to your student. If there s no student in your class yet, no need to give permissions to any groups. 3. Click Submit when you finish. 4. If you choose to create an Answer Sheet, you will see a popup window for you to create an Answer Sheet, fill in the details of each section. 5. To mark an assignment, click on the Number of the Submitted Column. 6. You will see who, when and what is there for that particular assignment. Click on the Submitted File. 7. In the popup window, fill in the details at the top of the marking panel. 8. Click Mark when you ve finished. 9. You can also select all assignments and then click on Automarking button to mark all worksheets automatically. Checking Student Learning Profiles Teachers are recommended to keep track the learning progress of students, you may check out the Usage, Participation and Online Assessment Record of your students in eclass. 1. Go to Student>Learning Profiles 2. Choose to check out Usage, Participation and Online Assessement Record Creating a Testing Paper 1. Go to Assessment>Question Bank to create a MC question a. Add MC by New i. Click on Multiple Choice SMCC IT Infrastructure & Logistic 2004 Page 6

7 ii. Click on New to create a new MC question. Fill in the Category of this question and the question and the choices. iii. Then click Submit iv. You may switch to Advanced Mode to insert multimedia files for each question by clicking Attach on right hand side. The number of attached files is unlimited; you can attach more than one file for each question and answer. v. Click Submit when you finish. b. Add MC by Import i. View format or download a sample file for reference ii. Prepare a text file or a word doc for upload questions iii. Press Browse to upload and locate the file that you want to upload. iv. Select the status of questions v. Click Submit when you finish * You may apply the same skill to create True & False question and Short question. 2. Go to Assessment>Question Paper Bank>Exercise Builder to define your test paper and compile the questions a. Click New and enter all the necessary information. b. Select the group and click ADD. By default, the Exercise is open to the whole class. You may however give access permission for only certain groups. Click NEW GROUPS if you want to form new groups first. c. Click Save to continue. d. To add questions, click. e. In the pop-up window, select the questions for your paper and click Attach. Do the different types of question one at a time. Close the window when you finish. f. Adjust the marks for each question. g. You may also re-arrange the order by checking the boxes of the intended questions and clicking Swap. h. Click Preview to have a look at the paper first and click Save.
