2 Established in 1966, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is a statutory body dedicated to promoting Hong Kong trade. Its mission is to explore opportunities for Hong Kong companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and connect them with business partners around the world. 3 Exploring a world of business opportunities Each year, the HKTDC organises a broad spectrum of more than 320 trade fairs and promotional activities, 590 networking and outreach events, and receives some 650 trade missions, helping Hong Kong s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) connect with business clients and partners around the world. The HKTDC responses to latest global and regional economic developments and policies to help Hong Kong SMEs capture new opportunities. With China s Belt and Road Initiative presenting tremendous potential in new markets, the HKTDC provides Belt and Road related market intelligence and creates business platforms to help Hong Kong businesses navigate a world of new opportunities through Hong Kong. 4 Promoting Hong Kong as Asia s services hub The HKTDC helps Hong Kong companies capitalise on business opportunities by promoting Hong Kong as Asia s business platform. The mainland economy has emerged strongly in recent decades, and the global marketplace has undergone an eastward shift of focus. Overseas enterprises are expanding their presence in the Asian market, while businesses from the mainland are aggressively growing their networks abroad. As Asia s premier global business platform, Hong Kong is best positioned to complement this robust growth by marketing its strong service base, and capitalising on its gateway advantage for overseas investors entering the Asian and mainland markets. Today, Hong Kong s competitiveness is underpinned by a strong service industry that contributes more than 90 per cent of Hong Kong s GDP. To support the growing service industry, the HKTDC dedicates itself to the promotion of Hong Kong s distinctive advantages in sectors including design and marketing, licensing, entertainment, finance, logistics and maritime, ICT, infrastructure and real estate, IP trading and professional services. Through a range of flagship events and some 160 service promotion activities hosted annually by the HKTDC, we bring new business opportunities to local service providers, and encourage overseas and mainland companies to utilise the hub advantage offered by Hong Kong. The city s leadership as Asia s central business district and trade fair capital is also solidified.
