Ivan Chiselet and Andrew Smallridge with their magnificent Convair B-36 Peacemaker This is a scratch bult model and has taken some considerable time and effort to build. It was one of the USA s strategic bombers at the time and flew from 1949 to Eventually replaced by the B-52 The model is powered by 6 electric motors and on Sunday, 23 July 2017, it was taken out for a taxi test at P&DARCS, Pakenham By all accounts, testing went well apart from a few minor issues that will be sorted before the actual test flight. 2 VMAA visit to Moira Model Aircraft Club, Cobram Three members of the VMAA committee visited the Moira club at Cobram over the weekend of the 1st- 2nd of July. The purpose of the visit was to discuss any issues with the Club, meet the Members and of course have a fly. It was a good weekend although a bit on the Chilly side... (-2 on Sunday morning), The VMAA and the Moira Club got a lot out of the weekend, thanks to Jason Sagaidak for hosting the meeting and assisting in organising the meeting. If any clubs want a visit form the VMAA please send an to secretary@vmaa.com.au and we will get it arranged. New President for the VMAA After 15 years of involvement with the VMAA, Greg Lepp has decided to stand down from the President s position. Reeve Marsh was elected unopposed to the position of President. Greg wishes to thank all the Clubs and individuals for their support he has received over this time. 3 Scratch / Kit Built Scale Rally & Diorama Competition. November 11 & Field Location; Wenn Rd. Cardinia, Vic 2016 Winner Pilots Choice Best Aircraft Brian Hutchinson Following the great success of last year inaugural event, P&DARCS are again hosting this very special event, the Scratch / Kit Built Scale Rally & Diorama Competition. Excellent Trophies for pilots choice as well as lots of lucky draw prizes. P&DARCS have excellent facilities including long and wide grass runways. Onsite non-powered camping is available. On line entry is now available on Flying open to kit and scratch built models only no ARFs. Large models will have solo flying spots if requested. Prizes for; Pilots Choice, President s Encouragement Award and Diorama, and lucky draw prizes throughout Rally. Bring along your model or come and/or admire some great aircraft. No documentation required just fly and have fun. All sizes of scale aircraft and unfinished projects most welcome. 4 IMAC Victorian Start Championships 22 to 23 July 2017 By Michael Andrysik Well done to all who competed at the Vic State Basic Champs over the above weekend. It was great to see pilot from interstate and local. Rank The flying conditions were not great to say the least, with Saturday s average wind speed being around 47.7kph, with gust up to 55.1kph. Sunday was a better day with the wind around 25 to 30 kph. Not great, but defiantly better. There were 10 pilots who flew (3 from NSW and 7 from Vic). Thanks to Scott Bardney for helping and assisting me in running my first event. Thanks to Jon York who did not fly but came along to help with the judging. The help and assistance was appreciated. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the VMAA who supplied the trophies and helped promote the event. A big thank you to Northern Flying Group (Mark Sills) and his team who kept us warm and fed all weekend. As mentioned above this was my first event and by the feedback received the pilots who were there enjoyed the event, even though the conditions were challenging. I am hoping to run this event again and I would encourage you all to give this discipline a try. It can be a lot of fun and if you need help just ask. It contains over 1,300 titles covering models and full size aircraft as well as aviation movies. There are many excellent instructional DVD that provide you with excellent information that will assist you in this great sport. There are also lots of titles covering many of the big model shows and competitions from all over the world as well as a huge selection of full size aircraft documentaries. You are really missing out on something if you are not a member of the library. It only costs $6-00, which includes the return postage, for 4 DVDs. The video library is a great resource, if you are not using then it why not. You get 4 DVD s delivered to your house for only $6-00. This includes the return postage.
