2 SeaLinx Overview SeaLinx adpts a layer-based design with the fllwing cmpnents - Applicatin layer - Transprt layer - Netwrk layer - MAC layer - Physical layer - Cre cmpnent An upper layer prgram must be linked with ne prgram in the direct lwer layer, s that a packet can be ruted crrectly thrugh the stack. Cre Cmpnent The cre cmpnent is respnsible fr dispatching data amng layers. The cmpnent waits fr cnnectins frm prtcl stack layers. It can be started by running sealinx-cre -p <cre prt> <cre prt> is the prt that the cre is listening n. Settings fr the cre can be fund in the file settings.ini in the same flder as sealinx-cre is running. A sample cntent f the file fllws [General Settings] MacAddress = 1 NetwrkAddress = 1 PacketSize = 1024 MacAddress is the MAC address f the nde NetwrkAddress is the Netwrk address f the nde PacketSize is the maximum packet size that is transmitted between layers. Physical Layer The physical layer interprets packets frm acustic mdems and sends data t them. OFDM mdems are handled by sealinx-fdm-cmd. The syntax f the cmmand is./sealinx-fdm-cmd -p <cre prt> <cre prt> is the prt that the cre is listening n. There are tw cnfiguratin needed fr the mdule: cnfig_fdm.cfg and cnfig_ser.cfg. 2

3 cnfig_ser.cfg specifies the prt and baud rate used t cnnect t a mdem. The first line is the prt, and the secnd line is the baud rate. Mst f the time, failure t cnnect t a mdem happens because f incrrect serial settings. cnfig_fdm.cfg specifies the setting f the mdems. Each line cnsists f a parameter name and its value, which are separated by a cln as fllws <variable name> : < variable value> There are three parameters currently used: OFDM_ACOUSTIC_RATE: OFDM Mdem Acustic Sending Rate (bps) OFDM_ACOUSTIC_RATE : 2500 OFDM_MTU: OFDM Mdem Maximum Transmissin Unit (bytes) OFDM_MTU : 1280 OFDM_IFGT: OFDM Mdem Inter Frame Guard Time (ms) OFDM_IFGT: 110 Mac Layer In the given package, there are tw MAC prgrams: sealinx-mac and sealinx-uwalha. Sealinx-mac is a dummy MAC layer and sealinx-alha implements the ALOHA prtcl. The syntax f sealinx-mac is sealinx-mac -i <prtcl ID> -p <cre prt> <prtcl ID> is the identifier f the prtcl, which will be filled in the type field in the MAC header. <cre prt> is the prt that the cre is listening n. With this syntax, multiple MAC layers can be cnnected t ne, given that their identifiers are different. The syntax f sealinx-uwalha is sealinx-uwalha -i <prtcl ID> -p <cre prt> -c <alha cnfig file> -t <arp table file> <prtcl ID> and <cre prt> are the same as with sealinx-mac <alha cnfig file> is the cnfiguratin file f alha. <arp table file> is the file specifying the ARP table. A sample alha cnfig file fllws 3

4 UWALOHA_SOCK_TIMEOUT : 10 UWALOHA_ACK_TIMEOUT : 25 UWALOHA_RETX_MAX : 3 UWALOHA_BROADCAST_ADD : 99 Where UWALOHA_SOCK_TIMEOUT is the timeut length n reading the cre scket. UWALOHA_ACK_TIMEOUT is the ACK time ut. UWALOHA_RETX_MAX is the maximum number f retransmissins. UWALOHA_BROADCAST_ADD is the bradcast address. This is deprecated and will be remved in future releases. An ARP table file cnsists f lines, each specifies a MAC address and the crrespnding netwrk address as fllws <mac address> : <net address> Netwrk Layer The packet prvides three netwrk layer prgrams: sealinx-net, sealinx-srute and sealinx-drute. sealinx-net is a dummy netwrk layer. sealinx-srute implements static ruting. sealinx-drute implement dynamic ruting. The syntax fr sealinx-net is sealinx-net -i <prtcl ID> -p <cre prt> -m <MAC prtcl ID> <prtcl ID> is the identifier f the prtcl, which will be filled in the type field in the netwrk header. <cre prt> is the prt that the cre is listening n. <mac prtcl ID> is the identifier f the underlying MAC prtcl. The syntax f sealinx-srute is sealinx-srute -i <prtcl ID> -p <cre prt> -m <MAC prtcl ID> -c <ruting table file> The first three parameters are the same as sealinx-net <ruting table file> is the file listing the rutes in the netwrk. 4

5 A ruting table file cnsists f lines, each include three numbers: the surce nde, the relay nde and the destinatin nde in the fllwing frmat: <surce nde> : < relay nde> : <dest nde> The syntax f sealinx-drute is sealinx-drute-i <prtcl ID> -p <cre prt> -m <MAC prtcl ID> -c <dynamic ruting cnfig> The first three parameters are the same as sealinx-net. The last parameter is the cnfiguratin file f dynamic ruting. A sample file fllws [Prtcl Parameters] StableHellPerid = 180 UnstableHellPerid = 20 NumRutingEntries = 10 EntryTimeut = 190 MinimumUpdateWait = 10 MaximumUpdateWait = 30 StableHellPerid: The frequency f sending HELLO messages when the ruting table is stable. A ruting table is determined t be stable if at least tw HELLO message frm its neighbrs which d nt incur any update t the lcal ruting table. UnstableHellPerid: The frequency f sending HELLO message when the ruting table is unstable. A ruting table is unstable after initializatin r after the nde receives a HELLO message frm ne f its neighbrs, which changes the table. NumRutingEntries: the maximal number f rutes, which shuld be at least the number f ndes. EntryTimeOut: The validity interval f a ruting entry. After a ruting entry is updated, the cuntdwn timer assciated with it is reset t EntryTimeOut. If this timer times ut, the entry is deleted. MinimumUpdateWait, MaximumUpdateWait: the minimum/maximum time that a nde needs t wait befre it bradcast changes t its ruting table. After a change t the ruting table is detected, a nde set up a timer, whse interval is frm MinimumUpdateWait t MaximumUpdateWait, t bradcast the changes. Transprt Layer In the package, there is nly a dummy transprt layer: sealinx-tra, whse syntax is sealinx-tra -i <prtcl ID> -p <cre prt> -m <MAC prtcl ID> -n <net prtcl ID> 5

Nte that the netwrk prtcl must be registered with the MAC prtcl. Applicatin Layer In the applicatin layer, we include a Pissn traffic generatr: sealinx-tx-pi. In the sender, the syntax is sealinx-tx-pi -i <app ID> -p <cre prt> -m <MAC prtcl ID> -n <net prtcl ID> - t <transprt prtcl id> -l <packet length> -r <traffic rate> -d <destinatin nde> <app ID> is the identifier f the applicatin, which will be filled in the service type field. <cre prt> is the prt that the cre is listening n. <mac prtcl ID> is the identifier f the underlying MAC prtcl. <net prtcl ID> is the identifier f the underlying netwrk prtcl. Nte that the netwrk prtcl must be registered with the MAC prtcl. <transprt prtcl ID> is the identifier f the underlying netwrk prtcl. Nte that the netwrk prtcl must be registered with the netwrk prtcl. <packet length> is the size f the packet that is sent. <traffic rate> is the rate f sending, in packets per secnd. <destinatin nde> is the netwrk address f the destinatin. Nte that multiple upper layer prtcl can be registered with a lwer layer ne. Quick Start Guide The rest f the guide assumes that users have sme experience with the Linux perating system. Sftware Installatin and Cmpilatin Dwnlad the CRI prject archive sealinx-dev tar.gz Extract the archive tar xvzf sealinx- dev tar.gz Cmpile the sample cde cd sealinx- dev tar.gz./cnfigure make install DESTDIR=`pwd`/tmp 6

7 At this pints, the sample prgrams can be fund under the tmp/usr/lcal/bin flder in yur wrking directry Running the Prtcl Stack This sectin shws yu hw t run a sample cmbinatin f prtcls: UW-Alha, Static Ruting, dummy transprt layer and Pissn Traffic Generatr n OFDM mdems. Cpy prgrams sealinx-cre, sealinx-fdm-cmd, sealinx-uwalha, sealinx-srute and sealinx-txpi frm yur sealinx /bin t a directry, say ~/sealinx-bin. Assuming yu are in the prject directry cp sealinx- dev /bin/sealinx-{cre,fdm-cmd,uwalha,srute, tx-pi} ~/sealinx-bin Cpy cnfiguratin files settings.ini, cnfig_ser.cfg, cnfig_net.cfg, cnfig_uwalha.cfg, cnfig_arp.cfg, cnfig _fdm.cfg t ~/sealinx-bin cp sealinx- dev /bin/cnfig_{cnn,ser,net,uwalha,arp,fdm}.cfg ~/sealinx-bin cp sealinx- dev /bin/settings.ini ~/sealinx-bin Please refer t previus pages fr detailed infrmatin n hw t change the settings. Cpy the dummy transprt layer that yu have just cmpiled t ~/sealinx-bin cp sealinx /sealinx /tmp/usr/lcal/bin/sealinx-tra ~/sealinx-bin Run the prgrams Change yur directry t ~/sealinx-bin cd ~/sealinx-bin Run the cre./sealinx-cre -p & Make sure that prt has nt been used by anther prgram. Otherwise, pick anther prt number. Run the mdem driver./sealinx-fdm-cmd -p & 7
