1 Physics Department HEP Network 1. Physical Network layout It is located in the Rutherford Building (both ground and first floors). The network occupies part of cabinet RG2 (including RG2A), all of cabinet R12, three switches in R11 and a single edge switch in Room 704. There are also three switches in Room 840 (HEP Computer Room) and several switches in the West Cambridge Data Centre (GridPP Tier 2). The latter are connected to the laboratory by a dedicated circuit. The core switch (CORES0) is in Room 704 (Link Building). There is a 10Gbps fibre connection from CORES0 to the CUDN PoP switch. 1

3 Fibres in use: Fibre connection A: SingleMode fibre circuit from WCDC to room 704. The circuit then connects directly into CORES0 in room 704. Fibre connection B: Fibres 7&8 in the standard RG2 patch panel these connect to fibres 7&8 on the patch panel labelled RG/2 in room 704. Fibre connection C: Fibres 7&8 in R12 connect to fibres 7&8 in the patch panel labelled R1/2 in room 704. Fibre connection D: Fibres 13&14 in R11 connect to fibres 13&14 in the patch panel labelled R1/1 in room 704. Fibre connection E: Fibres 1&2 on specially-laid cable from room 704 to room 840. The fibres then connect to fibres 1&2 on the patch panel labelled Room 840 in room 704.
