8 2 Overview 2 Overview 2.1 What Is Direct Connect? Direct Connect is a service that allows you to establish a dedicated network connection from your data center to a public cloud platform. You can establish network circuits between the cloud and your data center, office, or colocation environment. Direct Connect sets up private connections between the Direct Connect gateway and a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) in the public cloud. 2.2 Direct Connect Application Scenarios You can connect your network, data center, and collocation environment to VPCs on the public cloud to enjoy a high-performance, low-latency, and secure network. Figure 2-1 shows the application scenarios of Direct Connect. Issue 4 ( ) 6

The setup fee is same for connections with the 1GE port and the 10GE port. Port and bandwidth fees are charged by duration. For details, contact the customer service. Issue 4 ( ) 7

10 3 Getting Started 3 Getting Started 3.1 Direct Connect Enabling Direct Connect Scenarios Procedure Apply for a Direct Connect connection to enable Elastic Cloud Servers (ECSs) in your VPC to communicate with your data center or private network, or to increase the bandwidth to meet service requirements. 1. Log in to the homepage. 2. Under Network, click Direct Connect. 3. On the Direct Connect page, click Apply for Connection. 4. On the Apply for Connection page, set parameters as prompted. The value is a string of no more than 64 characters that can contain letters, digits, underscores (_), and hyphens (-). 1GE indicates the electric port. 10GE indicates the optical port. The value must be a private IP address with a subnet mask. Multiple subnets are separated with commas (,). A maximum of 50 remote subnets can be configured. Confirm the current configuration, read and select I have read and agree to the Huawei Virtual Private Cloud Service Agreement, and click Submit Order. 7. In the upper right corner, click Fees. 8. In the navigation pane on the left, choose My Orders. 9. On the ALL Orders page, check the order status. If the order status is Waiting for approval, the order is waiting for the system administrator's approval. If the order status is To be paid, go to step Click Pay. 11. Select a payment mode, and click OK. NOTE This operation applies only to the Yearly or Monthly billing mode. The system provides four payment modes: Pay by balance, Alipay, Pay by online banking, and Pay by transfer and remittance. If you select Pay by balance, recharge your account in time to ensure that your account has sufficient balance to pay your order. If you select Alipay or Pay by online banking, pay your order as prompted. If you select Pay by transfer and remittance, transfer money to the specified account based on information provided on the displayed page and submit a service ticket. Issue 4 ( ) 9

12 3 Getting Started 12. After you pay the order, wait for the administrator to create resources to enable Direct Connect for you. Direct Connect requires configuration offline and you will be informed once the service is enabled for you Obtaining the Project Name Perform the following steps: 1. Log in to the Direct Connect console. 2. Click the username and select Basic Information from the drop-down list. 3. On the displayed page, click Manage my credentials. 13 4 Management 4 Management 4.1 Direct Connect Management Checking a Direct Connect Connection Scenarios Procedure After you have enabled the Direct Connect service, you can view Direct Connect connections that have been created on the management console. 1. Log in to the management console. 2. On the console homepage, under Network, click Direct Connect. 3. In the details area on the right of the page, click before your connection to view its details. 14 4 Management Procedure 1. Log in to the management console. 2. On the console homepage, under Network, click Direct Connect. 3. Locate the row containing the target connection, click Modify under Operation, change the name and remote subnet of the connection, and click OK. Figure 4-2 Modifying a connection 4.2 Using a Connection to Access Multiple VPCs Scenarios Direct Connect enables you to access multiple VPCs using one connection. The operations are as follows: apply for connecting to a VPC (for example, VPC A) using a Direct Connect connection, and inform the customer manager of the network segments that need to be connected to other VPCs. Apply for VPC peers and establish peer relationships between other VPCs and VPC A. Configure the route to your remote subnet in the VPC peers. Procedure Create a VPC peering connection. 1. Log in to the management console. 2. On the console homepage, under Network, click Virtual Private Cloud. 3. In the navigation pane on the left, click VPC Peering. 4. In the right pane displayed, click Create VPC Peering Connection. 5. Configure parameters as prompted. You must select Current Tenant for Tenant. Table 4-1 lists the parameters to be configured. The project name of the current project is used by default. Specifies the peer VPC. You can select one from the drop-down list if the VPC peering connection is created between two VPCs of your own. Specifies the CIDR block for the peer VPC. The local and peer VPCs cannot have matching or overlapping CIDR blocks. Otherwise, the routes added for the VPC peering connection may not take effect. On the displayed page, click the Local Route tab. 6. In the displayed Local Route area, click Add Local Route. In the displayed dialog box, add a local route. 18 4 Management Key Direct Connect Operation Recorded by CTS After Cloud Trace Service (CTS) is enabled under your account, you can use it to record Direct Connect operations for future query, audit, and backtracking. Table 4-3 describes the Direct Connect operation that can be recorded by CTS. The CTS management console stores the last seven days of operation records. This section describes how to query the last seven days of operationrecords on the CTS console. 1. Log in to the management console. 2. Click in the upper left corner and select a region and project. 3. Click Service List. Under Management & Deployment, choose Cloud Trace Service. 4. Choose Trace List in the navigation pane on the left. 5. Specify the filters used for querying traces. The following four filters are available: Trace Source, Resource Type, and Search By Select the filter from the drop-down list. When you select Trace name for Search By, you also need to select a specific trace name. When you select Resource ID for Search By, you also need to select or enter a specific resource ID. When you select Resource name for Search By, you also need to select or enter a specific resource name. Operator: Select a specific operator (a user other than tenant). Trace Rating: Available options include all trace status, normal, warning, and incident. You can only select one of them. Start time and end time: You can specify the time period to query traces. 6. Click on the left of the required trace to expand its details. 7. Click View Trace on the right of the record to be queried. A dialog box is displayed, on which the trace structure details are displayed. Issue 4 ( ) 16

19 5 FAQs 5 FAQs 5.1 Can I Access Multiple VPCs Using a Direct Connect Connection? You can use one Direct Connect connection to access multiple VPCs. The operations are as follows: apply for connecting to a VPC (for example, VPC A) using a Direct Connect connection, and inform the customer manager of the network segments that need to be connected to other VPCs. Apply for VPC peers and establish peer relationships between other VPCs and VPC A. Configure the route to your remote subnet in the VPC peers. 5.2 What Is the Maximum Bandwidth Supported by Direct Connect? 5.3 Do Direct Connect Support Dynamic Routing Protocols? No. Only static routing is supported. 5.4 How Can I Enable Direct Connect? Fill out a Direct Connect application as required. Hold a business negotiation and sign a contract with the carrier. The carrier's engineers connect hosts at the two ends. The O&M engineers assist in configuring connections, perform the acceptance test, and verify that hosts at the two ends of the connection can communicate with each other. 5.5 How Can I Obtain Direct Connect Information? You can obtain information about the latest access point by submitting a service ticket. 5.7 What Types of Ports Does Direct Connect Support? Direct Connect supports the 1GE port and the 10GE port. 5.8 How Is Direct Connect Charged? Currently, Direct Connect is charged only by duration (yearly/monthly). 5.9 Does Direct Connect Support Subscription Renewal? Yes. You can perform the following operations to renew subscription. 1. Click the username in the upper right corner of the management console. 2. Select My Order from the drop-down list. 3. Locate the Direct Connect order and click Detail in the Operation column. 4. Click Renew. 5. Confirm the order renewal information and click Submit. If no Renew button is displayed, contact technical support How Can I Unsubscribe from Direct Connect? Please contact customer service Is Direct Connect Available After Being Frozen? When an order expires, a grace period (generally seven days) is provided. Resources are still available within the grace period. After the grace period ends, Direct Connect will be frozen and resources will become unavailable. If you renew your subscription within the frozen period, Direct Connect will be unfrozen and resources will become available. If you do not renew your subscription within the frozen period, resources will be deleted and you cannot renew your subscription any more. HUAWEI CLOUD controls the frozen period. Therefore, contact customer service representatives for more information What Factors Do I Need to Consider When Enabling Direct Connect? The following factors need to be considered: Issue 4 ( ) 18

Number of Direct Connect connections: Determine whether to create only one connection or two connections for high-reliability redundancy. When PLAS IP/VPN is used, two direct connections are required.
