Tutorial 13: Tabular Arrangements SignCAD Analysis The sign above is an advance exit sign created in the Texas standard. The route markers are in an arrangement with text that requires alignments both horizontally and vertically. If using another standard to create this sign, use the Hwy E Mod font instead. 1 Start by going to File>New>Texas Department of Transportation, Pick the Rectangular panel tool and in the general tab pick Guide sign. Pick OK. 2 Pick the Arrange tool and pick a point on the screen away from the panel. and 2 rows. Pick OK. Select Tabular Arrangement and select 3 columns Tutorials 145
3 Pick the State Highway route marker tool and pick a point in the tabular arrangement when you find the low right blinking box in the tabular arrangement. By moving around you will be able to highlight the six cells. When you find the bottom right cell pick a point. Enter Route number 411, 36 and select Loop-M1-6L. Pick OK. 4 Pick the US Route marker and find the bottom left cell and pick a point. Enter 87, 36 and pick OK. 5 Find the remaining open cell in the bottom row and enter 377, 36 and pick OK. 6 Go to the Preferences menu>text Font>ClearviewHwy-5-W-R and Text Size 15. Use the text tool to find the cell above US87 and pick into it. Type N<space>, then <Ctrl>S 12, then ORTH.<enter>. 7 The cardinal direction will appear as shown below: 8 The Clearview font has no definition for the spacing between letters of different sizes, therefore a space character was added to set the value. 9 Using the Text tool, highlight the space character and set its size to 4 by right clicking when it is highlighted and picking <Ctrl>S, 4, OK: Tutorials 146
10 Use the Select tool to highlight the whole word right click, Text align, Baseline. 11 Use the Text tool to type TO in 12 ClearviewHwy-5-W-R in the cell above Texas loop Use the Select tool to right click on the perimeter of the tabular arrangement and set all minimum space to 1. This is to not interfere with the object spacing. 13 You can now set spacing of the objects in the tabular arrangement. First window select the entire arrangement, and shift select the perimeter to unselect it. Right click and set all spacing to You want the spacing between route markers to be 18 and the spacing to the cardinal direction to be Right click on US87 and set left and right spacing to 18 and top spacing to You want the minimum spacing of North to be 12 from both sides of the panel. Right click on NORTH and set top and left spacing to You want the entire arrangement to be centered on the panel, so right click on Texas Loop 411 and set its left spacing to 18 and right spacing to 12, the same as the left spacing of NORTH. 17 You do not have to set the spacing of other objects because the US87 and TX411 established column spacing and the US87 established row spacing. The equal left spacing of NORTH and right spacing of TX411 centers the arrangement. 18 Use the Select tool to drag the arrangement by its perimeter into the panel. Tutorials 147
Use the Text tool to type Junction<enter>, Menard<enter> in the panel when you see a blinking line or rectangle below the tabular arrangement. 19 Pick the Up Arrow tool and find the blinking rectangle below Menard and pick a point. Select the A-3 arrow and enter 45 degrees. Right click and pick Object Align>right: 20 The first example below is panel spacing to edge. The second example shows panel spacing to border. Selecting either setting in the Rectangular panel dialog box>spacing is personal preference, however it does affect whether the border is taken into account when setting object spacing. Tutorials 148
Tutorials 149
21 You can also experiment by window selecting and top aligning all objects as shown below: You have successfully completed this tutorial. Tutorials 150
Tutorial 13A: Using signs as templates SignCAD Analysis Sequential signs in advance of interchanges and that contain the same route or destination information can be edited from the same original sign. Common elements retain their alignments and spacing. If similar layouts are used at many interchanges, then common elements can be edited to replace route markers and legends while retaining the original alignments and spacing. In either case the common layout can be saved as a template in the Favorites menu or in a folder accessible to other users. The Exit Number Panel below is created with the Rectangular Panel tool, selecting Exit Number Panel as sign type in the General tab. The text EXIT 23 is 10 /15 Clearview-5-W-R font The Hazardous material sign is in the Texas sign library as a 30 x30 R14-3 sign. Both the exit number panel and the R14-3 sign are attached to the main panel in a row and right aligned to create a multipanel. Tutorials 151
The sign below left shows the reversed the positions of the route markers and directions in the same tabular arrangement, while retaining the arrangements and alignments of the sign and the elements in the tabular arrangement. Right clicking on the legends to reverse their order retains their font, size and locations without having to redesign any part of the sign. Tutorials 152
