1 Upgrading Satellite Installations of Nova-T6 LT MIS Team 04/01/2016 Version 1.0

2 This procedure allows Schools to create the Nova Satellite upgrade files and folders required immediately following a SIMS.net upgrade. We always publish the fact that a Nova satellite upgrade needs to be performed in all respective SIMS.net upgrade instructions. This Nova Satellite procedure follows simple steps: Creating the actual files required to upgrade your Nova-T Satellite installations; Copying these files to a memory stick; and Running the actual Nova upgrade on any Satellite installations. Please ask your IT technician for any assistance with parts of these procedures, especially if you feel you do not possess the technical know-how to copy files and folders to memory sticks from the C:\ drive. Alternatively, to discuss these processes in full please do not hesitate to contact a member of the MIS Team via the Entrust Learning Technologies Service Desk on Extract the Latest NovaSattelliteSetup.exe using SOLUS3: To begin the upgrade of any Satellite installations of Nova-T6, the NovaSatelliteSetup.exe file needs to be downloaded and extracted using SOLUS3. Logon to your MIS Sever and open the SOLUS3 Deployment Server UI In the Update Library select the latest SIMS upgrade (e.g. SIMS Autumn 2015 Full Release ( )) the click the Extract button at the bottom of the screen Page 2 of 5

3 In the Browse For Folder select an appropriate, accessible network folder and click OK. Close the SOLUS3 Deployment Server UI Using Windows Explorer, browse to the folder selected in Step 3 above Double-click the NovaSatelliteSetup.exe 2. Manually creating Nova Satellite installation files using the NovaSattelliteSetup.exe: At the welcome screen click Next At the NOVA Local Destination Folder use the Browse button to open up the Select Destination Window Page 3 of 5

4 Enter a suitable path where you want to extract the upgrade files & folders to, it is recommended to use the Browse button and physically type in e.g. C:\SATS in the white folder location area at the top of the window Unfortunately, the browse functionality does not always automatically update the file location path If feeling brave, you could simply enter a memory stick mapping at this point e.g. X:\SATS to save the need to copy and paste the SATS folder to a memory stick later in this procedure When you are happy that the Nova Destination Folder is correct click Next At the Start Installation screen click Next When successfully completed click Finish 3. Copy the newly created SATS folder to a Memory Stick: When the Nova Satellite Setups folder has been successfully created you must then copy the entire \SATS folder to a memory stick. (It is advisable to copy and paste the actual SATS folder as the file location paths used later in this procedure reference particular folders). Upon completion take the media containing these files / folders to the satellite machine and upgrade all existing versions of Nova-T6. 4. Perform the Nova-T6 Upgrade: Once you successfully have the upgrade files / folders stored on your memory stick run the following procedures to upgrade existing School satellite installations of Nova-T6. There may be issues for users who upgrade a satellite installation on a PC that is configured to access the network version of SIMS. To avoid any issues simply unplug the network cable before attempting to upgrade the satellite version of Nova-T so that the main network system remains protected from the upgrade. It is ALWAYS advisable to ensure your entire Nova data is backed up before commencing this type of upgrade. All Satellite systems must be upgraded to match the main networked versions of these Nova modules before any recovery of satellite data is carried out. Failure to do so may result in data loss. 5 Close All open applications Insert the Memory Stick (if not already done so previously) Click on Start & select Run (or select Computer to manually navigate) Type in E:\sats\nova\novat6setup.exe (where E represents the drive letter associated with your Memory Stick) At the welcome screen click Next Check the destination location is correct, most users would opt to upgrade the default C:\SNOVA (please remember this file location as it will be required for future upgrades) At the start installation screen click Next When installation is complete click Finish When complete run Nova-T6 and check the satellite version is the same as the one installed on the school network (Help About Nova-T) When you have completed this procedure successfully you may wish to DELETE both the SATS folder stored on your Memory Stick and the one on the networked PC. If you do find you get a message to advise that the specific files cannot be found please use the browse buttons to try and locate the specific upgrade exe files manually.
