1 Scavenger Hunt Tasks Some are more relevant to our work. Some are more for fun and to see what s available. Each task takes about 15 minutes to complete, so you might finish 5 of them. You don t need to complete them all. Nothing is timed. Nothing the check off when you complete the task- no proof needed. Instructions are located at each station. I recommend following the instructions step-by-step. Everything is there that you need. Meet back at 10:45am to regroup and claim your prize. Every group gets a prize.

2 Second Floor Quiet Area: Travel Resources & Green Screen Practice Pick a travel destination for your group from the suggestions on flash cards or use your creativity to choose your own. Use a 15-minute quick-check stand-up computer to check the current weather conditions at your travel destination. My favorite weather resource is which features live weather stations on a map. Find a place to stay at your group s destination. My favorite accommodations resource is which let s people rent unique places to stay from local hosts in 190+ countries. Use the ipad on the stand. Open Safari and search for a picture of your destination. Hint: When the Google search results are showing, look under Google at the top, left of the screen and switch from Web to Images. Choose the picture for your green screen photo shoot. Tap the picture / View image / Press and hold on the picture / Save Image Optional: use provided costumes to help theme of your photo. Press the ipad s Home Button to return to the home screen. Swipe the screens to the side to find the Green Screen app. It has a pink octopus on it. Tap the plus sign in the top, right corner of the screen / create a new project Tap the 2nd plus sign on the bottom, right corner of the screen. Select the image in All Photos that you saved. Tap the 1 st plus sign / Camera. You might need to switch from Video to Image. You might also need to press the Camera Switch icon to point the camera towards your group. One person from your group can press the white button to take your picture. When you see Success! The image was saved to the Camera Roll. You are finished. Tap OK / Tap Projects in the top, left corner of the screen.

3 Children s Computer Room: Play time! Spend minutes playing some of the games on the Early Literacy ipads and Children s Computers. Figure out how to exit the computer games. If you don t see the exit button, you can press the Ctrl / Alt / End keys all at the same time.

4 Wasson Room: A/V set-up and check out a sample of resources Turn on the Wasson Room A/V System using the built-in MacMini. See section 2-1 in the Wasson Room instruction book on the box by the podium. Health Go to Hover the cursor over Patient Care & Health Info We ll practice finding information about some different health issues. You do not need to read the articles. Just make sure the searches are working. Click on Symptoms A-Z. Search for info on a symptom. If you can t think of one, look for Headache. Click on Diseases A-Z. Search for info on a disease. If you can t think of one, look for diabetes. Click on Drugs & Supplements A-Z. Click to read info about one of the herbs and supplements listed below. Safety and Security Online Go to passwordmeter.com Check the strength of a few of your passwords. A score in the 90 s is ideal. Finding Great Books to Read Go to Click on Research tab / under Literature click Novelist Plus / click again on NoveList Plus (this is a confusing step) Search for a fiction title that you love and checkout the reviews. Scroll to the bottom of the page. Check a few of the descriptors of your book that you enjoyed and search for more books with those qualities. Free Tech Tutorials Go to Click on Technology Choose a tutorial that your group is interested in. Choose a sub-topic and click through the slides of the course. Quit Safari / Shut-down the Mac Mini / Turn off the Projector See Section 2-1 in the Wasson Room instructions, if needed.

5 Hondius Room: A/V set-up and File Management Practice Wake up the Macbook by pressing a few keys on the keyboard. Use the Hondius Room A/V system to connect the Macbook with the HDMI cable and project it to the screen. See Hondius Room A/V instructions in cabinet. File Management Go to Finder / On the left side of the window look under Shared and click on All. In the main part of the window, double click on elvstorage / StaffShare / Staff Technology Training Open Staff Technology Training Tracking 2015 Enter today s date for your team members under the Scavenger Hunt column. Check and see what other tech trainings you need to complete. Save and close the sheet. Open the Scavenger Hunt folder. Create a folder inside the Scavenger Hunt folder by clicking File at the very top, left of the screen / New Folder. Name your folder with your team color i.e. Purple Team Open a blank document in Word. Type a little special something. Use Save As to save the document into your team s folder. Quit Word. Find the document in Finder. Click twice slowly on the document listing to change it s name. Type a new name / Press Return on the keyboard to save the new name. Shut Down the A/V Leave the Macbook turned on for the next group. Turn off the projector, turn off the Sony Receiver, and raise the screen. See Hondius Room A/V instructions, if needed.

6 Business Area Downstairs: Mobile Devices Mobile Devices Matching Game Match each mobile device to it s type and which eservices it can use by placing it on the matching sheet of paper on the other table. In case you get stuck or want to check your answers, there is a hint on the back of each sheet. On each device, go to Settings / WiFi / turn on WiFi / Connect to Estes Library WiFi. You probably won t have to agree to the Terms of Service, because another group will have gone before you. Typically a device is remembered for 24 hours. To keep it fair, Diana will agree to the Terms before the first group starts. eservices Your team can work together on 1 device or each person pick a different device to use. Check out an ebook using 3M, open the book, then return it. Log out of 3M. Check out an eaudiobook using OneClickDigital, play the beginning, then return it. Log out of OneClickDigital. Check out an emagazine using Zinio from the library s website, open the magazine, then log out of Zinio. FaceTime Open the FaceTime app on the ipad Mini s homescreen. FaceTime with another staff member. On each device go to Settings / WiFi / turn off Wi-Fi on the device. Return the mobile devices to their original table, so the next group can play.

7 Computer Commons: Databases Each member of your team can use the computer on the podium to sign up for a computer in the CC. Log in to the computer. Open Safari or FireFox and go to Click on the research tab. Spend minutes playing with some of the databases that you aren t familiar with. You may need to set-up an account or use your library card to log-in. If you setup an account, I recommend opening your Webmail and ing yourself the username and password which you create so it s not forgotten. I especially recommend checking out: Pronunciator = Learning a second language Consumer Reports Online = Ratings of products and services like cars, electronics, car insurance, washing machines, etc. Ancestry.com = Search legal records and public family trees for your ancestors. Reference USA = Search business, job, and residential information Brainfuse = Tutoring and test prep Morningstar Investment = Search stocks and funds During your research, find something to print. Print a page from the computer you are working on and go to the print shelf to retrieve your document. I left some change on the change machine for you. Log out of your computer by clicking on the Apple at the top, left corner of the screen / Log Out Mac.
