Finding the Macs IP Address Before creating a one touch button, you will require the IP address of the Mac. Here are a couple of ways to obtain your Mac s IP address. 1.

2 Finding the Macs IP Address Before creating a one touch button, you will require the IP address of the Mac. Here are a couple of ways to obtain your Mac s IP address. 1. From System Preferences: From the Apple menu pull down choose System Preferences Click on the Network preference pane Your IP address will be visible to the right, as indicated in the screenshot below Your IP address is the number listed, in the above case it is Now we ll cover the more technical approach to getting your IP address using the Mac OS X command line: 2. Using the Terminal This is how to find the IP address of your Mac through the Terminal; this is often the quickest way for those that are more technically inclined. Launch the Terminal located in Applications > Utilities then type in the following command: ifconfig grep inet You will see something that looks like this: inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 inet netmask 0xff inet6 fe80::fa1e:dfff:feea:d544%en1 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x5 inet netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast

3 Your IP address is usually next to the last entry of inet and in this case is , an IP address is always in the format of x.x.x.x but it will never be because that is your machines loopback address. Because you can always ignore , this guarantees that your IP address will be the other IP between inet and netmask The other command line option is to use: ipconfig getifaddr en1 which reports back only your en1 (usually wireless) IP address. You can change this to en0 for wired/ethernet too. IMPORTANT With the launch of Mac OS 10.7, Apple changed their SMB protocol (also now known as SMBX) which unfortunately means that some additional adjustments need to be made to the MFD to allow SMB scanning to function correctly. Firstly, make the following adjustments to the MFD. If after making the adjustments the scans still fail to be delivered then a newer firmware may be required. 1 - Select ON on Direct Hosting setting in SMB settings (should be ON by default) 2 - Select v1/v2 on NTLM Settings of Client Settings in SMB settings Log is as Administrator Network > SMB Setting > Client Setting Change NTLMv1 to NTLM v1/2 3 - Set the date/time on MFP to the same date/time on the Mac. Maximum tolerance is +/- 2 hours. If after making the above settings, FTP scans still fail then you may need to upgrade to a newer Firmware on the MFD. 2

4 1. Set up Windows Sharing Open System Preferences, then select Sharing, which is listed in the Internet & Wireless section. Tick File Sharing. Here you can see that currently, only Mac0 s Public Folder will be shared. If you would like to share additional folders click on the [+] and browse to a folder where you want scans to be delivered to. Also ensure the account has Read & Write privileges.. 3

6 3: Create a One Touch button The next stage is to create a one-touch button. This can be done either at the MFD or on the Mac via the web connection. Using a web browser, type in the IP address of the MFD into the address bar and then click on the Store Address tab and then click on New Registration. Select SMB and click on OK 5

If the user is going to use more than one method of scanning, i.e, SMB and , it s a good idea to include the method of scanning as part of the name, i.e: Mac0 (SMB) as shown above. 2. Enter the IP address of the Mac in the Host Address field. If you want to use the host name of the Mac rather than its IP Address then you need to tick the box above the field for the IP address. 3. The default File Path must start with the name of the logged in user followed by the name of the shared folder, so here it is Mac0\Public, or if you are scanning to a sub-folder of Public (e.g. Scans) then the path would be Mac0\Public\Scans. If you want to scan to a folder which is NOT Public or a sub folder of Public then you must precede the shared folder with a \. So for example, let s assume we have made a folder called SMBScans, the folder must first be shared (as shown on page 3) and then the File path used to create the One Touch button would be \SMBScans. 6

4. Enter the User ID and Password both of which are case sensitive and must be valid log on details for the Mac. 5. Click OK to create the button 6. Click Return to go back to the Address Book List.

The new account is set up If you have set up a separate account/user on the MAC for SMB scanning then you can set up the one touch button to add the scans into the public folder of that user. For example, you create a user called SMB. The file path will be smb\public Notice that this time we use a back slash and the file path is NOT case sensitive. 7
