3 What is a geoportal? A geoportal is a gateway to Web-based geospatial resources, enabling users to discover, view and access geospatial information and services made available by Huerfano County. Using Huerfano County GIS portal From the home page of the gisportal you will be presented with three tabs on the navigation bar Data Maps and About you may also use the two search fields to search for keywords related to a layer or document Select Data layers to view a list of available layers 1 P a g e

5 From Explore Layers you can select data sets by (left clicking on the blue title link) or to create a map with multiple layers left click on the plus icon. The icon will change not selected to selected When you have selected the layers you wish to use (left click on Create Map) 3 P a g e

7 Navigating the map builder You will notice several different tool bars on the web map page: Map will allow user to create a new map or save, user Must be registered to Save a created map Allows you to print map. See later on in this guide for more information Allows you to Identify a Feature of the selected layer Allows you to search Attribute table of selected layer. See later on in this guide for more information Allows you to measure Length and Area The next tool bar is map navigation Allows you to pan map Allows you zoom by dragging a box Zoom in Zoom out Zoom to Previous Extent Zoom to Next Extent Zoom to Max Extent 5 P a g e

8 Working with Layers On the left side of the page you will see the layers you have selected along with the base map selection. The layer tool bar will allow you to add and remove layers as well as view details of the layer Add New Layer Remove Layer Layer Properties Change Layer style *only Registered users may change a default style 6 P a g e

9 Using the Query Tool You can use the Query to specific information about a record stored in the features table. You can use this to find a Parcel number or owner name. First make sure the layer you wish to run the Query is selected, you can confirm this by looking at the layer s panel and see which layer is highlighted grey Now that you know the layer you wish to Query is highlighted click the Query tool the page you will see a Query table pop up from the bottom of On the left had side is the Query selection box 7 P a g e

10 By default, the query by current map extent is selected this will only search the area that is displayed in the map viewer. Select which field you would like to search by PARCEL_NUM OWNER_NAME PARCEL_ADD Now you can select a Operator 8 P a g e

11 If you are unfamiliar with Operators: IMPORTANT If you know the value i.e Parcel number name DOE then use = If you ONLY know part of the search term i.e NAME is SMITH but you only remember SMI use the LIKE operator with a WILD CARD * You can see both examplses in the following pictures 9 P a g e

12 Once you enter the information you are looking for click the Query button on the bottom of the query box you will be shown the results in the Table next to the query box. Highlight the result in the table Now you may RIGHT click and select Zoom to selected features You will then been shown the feature on the map with a blue highlight to it 10 P a g e

13 Printing Maps When you select the print icon map will look like you be shown a pop up of what your You may select: Paper Size of A4 or Wide Resolution: or 300dpi You can also add your own map Title and comments to be included on the map After you have added your information left click the Print icon.pdf file of your map that you can print of share you will be given a 11 P a g e
