1 Software Announcement November 28, 2006 IBM Lotus Expeditor 6.1: Accelerate your business with a universal client Overview IBM Lotus Expeditor provides the client, the corresponding server side connectors, and a toolkit for a variety of capabilities: Composite desktop for a compelling, responsive, user interface to applications Integration of existing WebSphere Portal, Workplace Forms, Web, Host, ActiveX, Eclipse RCP, Java, and any service-oriented architecture (SOA)-enabled applications Disconnected access to applications to help increase user productivity Server-managed software to help reduce the effort needed to deploy and maintain software Mobile access to applications to help improve productivity of sales force and field service employees Standards-based familiar programming model to promote reuse of skills and increases developer productivity The Lotus Expeditor software includes the following: Lotus Expeditor Client Includes support for desktop, laptops, tablet computers, kiosks, and mobile devices Lotus Expeditor Server Used to centrally manage the software deployed to the client and provides connectors to Enterprise applications and data Lotus Expeditor Toolkit Used for rapid application development and deployment of managed client applications Customers who order the client software will also receive IBM Device Runtime Environment, which is used to enable hosting of server-side user interfaces, locally on a desktop or laptop computer. 2 Description Lotus Expeditor is an SOA-based server managed client platform that helps improve responsiveness and increase productivity by extending composite applications to laptops, desktops, kiosks, and mobile devices. It is the IBM open standards-based competitor to the.net client. It is both used by and integrates with key IBM products such as WebSphere Portal, Lotus Sametime, Workplace Forms, and next version of Lotus Domino and also sold as a stand-alone offering. Lotus Expeditor provides a variety of capabilities: Composite desktop: Lotus software can be used to deploy applications that not only visually integrate a variety of components in a composite view, but also integrate the components with the business processes contained in back-office applications. A typical scenario to demonstrate Lotus Expeditor s integration capability can be a bank teller application. Bank tellers or customer service representatives (CSR) often have to switch between different types of applications to fulfill a customer request. Lotus Expeditor can integrate their workflow into a composite application as shown below. It can integrate components ranging from Swing, Text terminal, Visual Basic, Active X, and Applets to Native or Web views like AJAX, PDF, Java Server Pages, and Forms. It also provides inter-communication and inter-operability between these components. Lotus Expeditor enables existing applications to be hosted inside the composite desktop, and be augmented with new applications as new functions are made available. With Lotus Expeditor, portals can be part of a composite application that includes components of different underlying technologies, not just other portlets. This can reduce the effort to retrain end users, while rolling out Lotus Expeditor across the business. Integration: Lotus Expeditor brings information to the finger tips by extending a variety of data sources to the client. The information can be extended in a number of different ways: Portal applications Lotus Expeditor provides a composite desktop for WebSphere Portal. This helps delivers a compelling, responsive, rich client interface to portal applications. The topology of the portal is maintained on the desktop, complete with inter-portlet communications that facilitates integration between views. In addition, portal applications can also be used off-line, when an Internet connection is not available, expensive, or unreliable. This is ideal for mobile employees or field service personnel. The Lotus Expeditor network client installer enables WebSphere portal to administer applications on the Lotus Expeditor client. The Lotus Expeditor toolkit assists in transforming portlets into rich client applications. IBM Workplace Forms applications Lotus Expeditor enables Workplace Forms applications to be taken off line. Forms and Forms data are stored locally on the Lotus Expeditor desktop client, and then synchronized with the Forms Server upon reconnect. This can help improve the productivity and responsiveness of mobile employees and can help in the completion of complex forms, which may require multiple sittings before the user is ready to send them to the server. Relational data This capability is used when there is a back-end open database connectivity (ODBC) or Java database connectivity (JDBC) data source and where the customer does not want to re-invent the wheel by re-writing sync algorithm. The data is generally moved from the relational data source to a mirror on the middleware and then synched to the client data store and back by using DB2e s robust sync capability. The mirror is used for caching and performance enhancements. SOA Web Services This capability makes Lotus Expeditor a cornerstone of IBM SOA story providing the managed client access to Web services. This makes it easy to consume Web services from the client. This enables back-end applications like Siebel to utilize the Web services interface and to be extended to a managed client environment. WebSphere Business Integration (WBI) Adapter based As part of the above SOA architecture, Lotus Expeditor can leverage WBI adapters to extend a variety of back-end applications to managed clients via the enterprise service bus (ESB). Disconnected access: Lotus Expeditor can help increase the productivity by providing offline access to applications. The data and the applications are provisioned to the device while connected. While the device is offline, the end user remains productive using the applications to store the data locally. The information can be accessed through application logic that runs locally on the client and on reconnection, the data and the application can be synchronized with the server. The communication with the server can be done asynchronously or synchronously. Server managed: Lotus Expeditor can help reduce deployment and maintenance cost by enabling client applications to be remotely deployed and managed from the server. The application management component can be used to identify devices and perform tasks like configuration, inventory collection, distribution and removal of software, and initial provisioning. Application manager is used with a subscription manager component to control access to the user interfaces for administrators and device users. Mobile access: Lotus Expeditor can help increase productivity by enabling sales force and field service employees to access enterprise information away from the office through PDAs and Smartphones. Windows Mobile PDAs and Phone are supported. Rich as well as Web-based user interface: Lotus Expeditor promotes reuse of skills and increases developer productivity by offering a choice of programming models to the developers. The client includes an Eclipse-based rich client platform and a servlet container. This enables developers to write Eclipse-based applications or Web applications, which run locally. Client security: Lotus Expeditor has several built in capabilities like encryption, credential (key) store, and desktop lockdown to help secure the applications on the client. The local credential store enables end-user authentication local on the Lotus Expeditor desktop client, without the need for a network connection. This also facilitates single sign on to multiple applications from the Lotus Expeditor client. The desktop can be locked down to prevent end users from loading any non authorized software into the Lotus Expeditor environment. In this case, only software that is

3 loaded by the administrator can be added to end user machines. In addition other encryption techniques are also supported within Lotus Expeditor (example: Relational Data Encryption). The platform consists of: Client for desktops, laptops, and tablets: Includes portlet container, local data store, transactional messaging, application management, Web-application, and Eclipse-based runtime, Web services support and security features like lockdown. It runs on Microsoft Win32 and Red Hat Linux. Client for devices: Includes local data store, transactional messaging, application management, Web-application and Eclipse-embedded rich client platform powered runtime, and Web services support. The client can be managed by either the Lotus Expeditor Server or the WebSphere Portal Server. It runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile V5 Pocket PC and Microsoft Windows Mobile nd edition. Server: Enables the Lotus Expeditor client and applications to be server managed from a central location. Augments Portal Administration with the capability to schedule updates at timed intervals, to groups of users. Includes server side connectors for corresponding client side components. It runs on Microsoft Windows and Red Hat Linux. Toolkit: Offers rapid application development and deployment of portlet, Web app and Eclipse based apps. Plugs into development tools that support Eclipse and WebTools Platform Device Runtime Environment: Combines a J2SE Runtime Environment with the ability to host server side user interfaces, locally on a laptop computer or desktop system. The Device Runtime Environment is a separate product, but it is provided, at no charge, with the Lotus Expeditor 6.1 Client. Language selection is made during installation, configuration, and usage of the program. Technical assistance in each supported country or region is provided in the language generally spoken in that country or region. The supported languages for the Server, Toolkit, and Client for Devices are: Brazilian Portuguese French Japanese Chinese -- Simplified German Korean Chinese -- Traditional Italian Spanish The supported languages for the Client for Desktop and Network Client Installer. Limitations are shown with an asterisk. Arabic* Catalan Czech Danish Spanish Finnish German Hebrew* Italian Korean Polish Romanian Slovak Thai Ukrainian * Limitations Brazilian Portuguese Chinese -- Simplified Chinese -- Traditional Dutch/Netherlands Swedish French Greek Hungarian Japanese Norwegian Portuguese Russian Slovenian Turkish Arabic and Hebrew: There are limitations in the Arabic and Hebrew enablement for the Client for Desktop product on Linux. It is also not possible to produce right-to-left mirrored plug-in applications using SWT on Linux, therefore Arabic and Hebrew translations will not be installed and English will be used. However, it is

4 possible to accept user input and display bi-directional text properly on Linux. Red Hat Enterprise Linux: The installation phase of the Client for Desktop on Red Hat Enterprise Linux is only translated for the languages below. After installation completes all translations for languages specified above for the Client for Desktop will be installed and available for use, excluding Arabic and Hebrew. Brazilian Portuguese Chinese -- Traditional German Japanese Spanish Chinese -- Simplified French Italian Korean Novell Linux Desktop 9: The installation phase of the Client for Desktop on Novell Linux Desktop 9 is limited to English. After installation completes all translations for languages specified above for the Client for Desktop will be installed and available, excluding Arabic and Hebrew. Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act IBM Lotus Expeditor is capable as of December 15, 2006, when used in accordance with associated IBM documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it. A U.S. Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT), containing details on the products accessibility compliance, can be requested at accessibility/index.html IPLA and subscription and support considerations IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to an enterprise. Positioning with regard to WebSphere Portal Lotus Expeditor and WebSphere Portal are complementary offerings. In stand-alone deployments, they deliver different types of value but when used together, the two offerings deliver role based, process driven composite apps on rich clients and browsers. Lotus Expeditor enables portlets to be part of composite applications that have components of different underlying technologies not just other portlets. Each program has a designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurement is a processor core. However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as users, client devices, and messages. The number of Value Unit entitlements required for a program depends on how the program is deployed in your environment and must be obtained from a Value Unit table. You must obtain a Proof of Entitlement (PoE) for the calculated number of Value Unit entitlements for your implementation. The Value Unit entitlements are specific to a program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program. Processor (Value Unit) A processor core is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and executes instructions. A processor core consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic or logic unit. With multicore technology, each core is considered a processor. Not all processor cores require the same number of Value Unit entitlements.
