IBM Rational Migration Extension for CA Technologies also supports the conversion of legacy CA databases, such as CA Datacom DB, to IBM DB2. EGL, IBM's newest business language, is a powerful, easy-to-learn language that provides developers with a simplified programming model that helps them quickly deliver cross-platform, transactional data-centric services and applications. EGL also provides built-in support for service-oriented architecture (SOA) and offers capabilities for simplifying development of rich Web 2.0 style applications. is a key component of the Application Transformation process, which delivers a highly automated way to leverage and reuse COOL:Gen and Ideal/Datacom applications. This process provides a cost-effective way to modernize and transform these legacy systems, giving new life to applications. is a plug-in for the IBM Rational Business Developer or IBM Rational Developer for System z with EGL environments. The migration of the COOL:Gen or Ideal code and Datacom data is performed as a service with the result being equivalent EGL code and DB2 schemas. IBM Rational Migration Extension for CA allows the COOL:Gen or Ideal applications that have been transformed into EGL to execute properly as generated Java or COBOL code. Migration of CA COOL:Gen or Ideal applications is a viable, cost-effective approach for modernizing aging applications.
