3 Prior to using VPN 1 at IST Austria, please make sure you have read and you do comply to the VPN Policy. The VPN service based on OpenVPN is provided by IST Austria IT, please see the following requirements for using it: An active IST Account which is VPN enabled (default for employed scientists and admin/ssu at IST Austria) The IST Austria OpenVPN config file, which contains configuration and certificates One of the supported OpenVPN clients installed. (Devices installed and maintained by IST Austria IT will come with an OpenVPN client preinstalled.) Download For security reasons, the provided download requires login: Download VPN Config OpenVPN Clients Windows default: openvpnwindows SecurepointTunnelblickUbuntu/DebianAndroidiPhone 1. Download/install open vpn client from 2. Download the configuration file above 3. Right-click on the OpenVPN icon in the taskbar and Import file November 13, /11

4 4. Right-click and connect 5. Type in your username and password This openvpn client might be already preinstalled on your IST Austria device, so you do not need to download/install the software. 1. Download/Install from 2. Download the configuration file above 3. Open the Securepoint client, click on the Securepoint icon in the task list and click on the Securepoint-Settings and then Import November 13, /11

5 If the following message appears just click Yes 4. Click on connect and type in your username and password. It is suggested to only save the username. 1. Download/install Tunnelblick 2. Download the configuration file above 3. Drag the file onto the tunnelblick icon 4. Click on connect and type in your username and password. November 13, /11

If not already installed, install Openvpn (and network-manager) via terminal: sudo apt-get install openvpn # Make sure the network manager is installed if not: sudo apt-get install network-manager network-manager-gnome network-manageropenvpn-gnome 2. Download the configuration file above 3. Open Network Connections and click on Add 4. Choose Import a saved VPN configuration November 13, /11

7 5. Type in your username and password. Than Save 6. Go to VPN Connections and connect to ist-vpn 1. Search for openvpn in the Play Store on your mobile phone. We suggest one of the following two OpenVPN clients. 2. Install the desired client and download the configuration file above to your phone. November 13, /11

8 Select Import from the menu on the upper right corner Touch Import Profile from SD card and select the downloaded file, which starts with istuser- After the profile has been created, you can change the name, and you need to provide Username and Password to connect. Just touch Disconnect to cancel the connection, after a successful login. November 13, /11

9 Touch the (+) Touch on "IMPORT" Select the downloaded.ovpn file You can change the name of your profile, and then confirm the import. If you touch the line with the new profile, you'll be asked for username and password, and after successful login you are connected: November 13, /11

10 Touch the active connection again, to disconnect. 1. Search for openvpn in the App Store on your iphone/ipad. Currently there is only one client available 2. Install the OpenVPN client 3. Download the IST openvpn config file from above and touch "Open in OpenVPN" 4. OpenVPN will be opened and show the IST openvpn config file Touch the green + button to import the config file November 13, /11

11 5. Answer the question "OpenVPN Would Like to Add VPN Configurations with "Allow" and the installation will be finished 6. To connect the VPN you have to fill in "Userid" and "Password" and touch the slider below "Disconnected" November 13, /11
