Status of the first version of the CHOReOS Public web site 1.1 Introduction This report documents the delivery of version 1 of the CHOReOS website on October 29, The website is at the following address: This is delivery D9.1: Public CHOReOS web site (M1) 1.2 Effect of the time constraint Two-step website development Due to the extremely tight schedule less than one month after the kick-off meeting - it has not been possible to work by committee. The development team (see below) had to work fast and decided to rapidly deliver an operational website in order to aid discussion and gather feedback from the project partners before making the site publicly available. Strong criticisms about the artwork and structure of the website that was delivered lead the team to entirely review the site. Following this review the team has delivered a second version (V.2) within a week Phased opening The first version (V.1) of the web site was delivered on October 29. This version was ready to go public but was kept under restricted access while being submitted for review. The second version (V.2) is delivered on November 8. Again, in order to allow a margin for adjustment before going fully public, the website is made available via controlled access for a few days until go-ahead confirmed by the WP lead. 8 2. Short-term outlook 2.1 A work in progress Unlike a printed brochure, a web site is a flexible artefact: it can be modified and updated at will. Of course the website delivered today is just the beginning. Such a website will always be a work in progress and will grow along with the project. 2.2 Short term evolutions At this stage, the evolution possibilities are as follows: The organization of the website in sections and pages can and will be improved The rotating pictures on the home page can be changed to convey different messages. Overall, the art work and look and feel can be adapted. More content will be added as the project deliverable, events and publications become available We are currently working on the following pages: "Publications" and "Glossary" in particular. The blog function is fully operational and consortium partners are kindly invited to write blogs and/or provide content to OW2 to post on their behalf. In order to keep the momentum going, a new partner "interview" will be published every other month. We will publish all documents that partners will want to see here and visual presentations will be made available through Slideshare. The site's content is Search Engine friendly and as more content becomes available this will support Search Engine ranking as part of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) methods. RSS feeds will disseminate project news as well as via the Cordis page (at This is implemented during the second iteration of site design. 2.3 Governance Website governance is an important part of the evolution and curation of the website content. We will work with WP9 lead, Darius Salingas, to establish governance rules to properly manage and grow this web site. Ed Daniel, OW2 Community Development Coordinator will maintain this web site and will be the partner's primary contact for any matter regarding the web site for the duration of the project. Screenshots This part provides a couple of screen shots for each version of the site. 3.1 First version Although this first version represents a significant improvement over most public web sites by eu-funded projects, it implements a somewhat traditional look and feel. 10 3.2 Second version The look and feel of the second version is borrowed from contemporary web sites of It maximises the coverage of screen width and uses graphics extensively for maximum visual impact. The colour theme has been refreshed to be more compatible with both the topic of the site and the logo.
