1 Haas Technical Documentation Mill - DXF and IPS Programming Scan code to get the latest version of this document Translation Available INTRODUCTION AutoCAD DXF (Drawing Interchange Format, or Drawing Exchange Format) is a CAD data file format by Autodesk that lets you exchange data between AutoCAD and other programs. This document tells you how to import a DXF file and convert it to a working IPS program file in a Haas mill. Program Structure These are the steps required to correctly import a DXF file into an IPS program file: 1. Define the tools 2. Import the DXF file. 3. Define the origin point. 4. Select the geometry for the tool path. This must be a closed chain on a mill. 5. Define the operation. 6. Enter the values in the information tabs on the IPS window. 7. 2 Pre-define the tool information, and set the tool and work offsets. 1. Press [MDI]. 2. Press [PRGRM/CONVRS]. 3. Press the [Right ]cursor arrow to go to the Setup tab. 4. Press [WRITE/ENTER] to go into Setup Mode. 5. Press [WRITE/ENTER] to open the Tool tab. 6. Press the [Right] cursor arrow to go to the Work Material box. 7. 3 8. Press [CANCEL] to go back to the main Setup Mode Menu. 9. Use the [Right] cursor arrow to go to the TOOL tab. 10. Press [WRITE/ENTER]. 11. Use [ATC/FWD] and [ATC/REV]to scroll through the available tool numbers in the TOOL field. 12. Use the [Down] cursor arrow to go to the TOOL TYPE field. 13. 4 1. Press LIST PROG. 2. Use the[ Right] cursor arrow to go to the USB Device tab. 3. Press [WRITE/ENTER]. 4. Use the[ Down] cursor arrow to go to the program to import from the USB. 5. 5 1 - These are the axis positions relative to the zero origin point of the part. 2 - These command key instructions change based on the operation mode of the program. 3 - This section shows the status or the origin, chain, and toolpath settings. These are the three steps needed to program a part. 4 - Context-sensitive help text is shown in this corner. Origin Point, Geometry Selection, and Operation Definition To set the origin point: 1. Use the Jog Axis keys on the control until the cursor is at the correct X and Y position on the part. 2. Use the [Up] or [Down] cursor arrows to select the point. 3. 6 5. Select a linear segment to begin chaining. 6. In the illustration, a red line [1] means the selected line. 7. The green line and arrow [2] represent the direction of the cut. 8. 7 10. Use the [Up] and [Down] cursor arrows to go to the different menu items. 11. Press [WRITE/ENTER] to make a selection. 12. Use the jog axis keys to move the tool to the desired entry point location. 13. Press [WRITE/ENTER]. 14. Use the jog handle to move the tool away from the entry point. 15. Press [F3]. 8 1. Use [ATC FWD] and [ATC REV ] to move between the fields. 2. Use the [Up] and [Down] cursor arrows to change the values within the fields. 3. Press [EDIT] to go back to the DXF editor. 4. Enter the values for the remaining fields. 5. Press [F4 ]to output a program. 6. The IPS Recorder dialog box shows. 7. Use the [Up] and [Down] cursor arrows to go to the different options. 8. 9 10. If you selected Create Program from the IPS Recorder Menu, the Select/Create Program dialog box shows. 11. To name a new program, Type an O followed by up to 5 numbers. 12. Press [WRITE/ENTER] to save it. 13. The new program from the DXF import shows in the Program window. 14. If you need to adjust any information in the IPS window, press [WRITE/ENTER]. 15. 10 If you press MENU, the DXF editor opens for another tool and toolpath. The CURRENT GROUPS field in the lower left now has 2 groups. The items in the Step Menu are all green because Group 1 is highlighted in the CURRENT GROUPS box. Use the jog handle or the axis keys to select the geometry for the new tool.
