1 ONENOTE PROJECT DUE BEFORE CLASS BEGINS THE WEEK OF Overview: FEBRUARY 11, 2008 One of the main skills we want CIS 150 students to take away from this class is the ability to adapt to and be able to work with new technologies and programs to better serve you personally and in the business world. This project requires you to use OneNote, an application included in Microsoft Office OneNote allows the user to take detailed notes using advanced tools and organize with ease. Requirements: Click START, open ALL PROGRAMS scroll down and open MICROSOFT OFFICE then open the OneNote application. Upon opening, you will notice an instructional notebook Getting Started with OneNote displays. Read these 12 pages (right hand side) and observe its unique functions and familiarize yourself with the interface. o The tabs running vertically on the left represent different Notebooks. When you click on a notebook tab, the notebook opens. Each notebook is comprised of different sections shown as the tabs running horizontally across the top of the sheet. When you click on a section tab it will open the section. Each section has different pages shown as long tabs running horizontally and stacked vertically on the right. o Perform a Screen Print of page 1 Getting Started with OneNote. Add a new notebook for yourself by clicking FILE then NEW NOTEBOOK. o A box displays asking for creation details. In the line at the top, title the notebook by typing in Classes First Name Last Name sec###. Make sure the blank template is selected. Click on NEXT. o Select the option to use it on different computers. Click on NEXT. o Click on the BROWSE button to locate your flash drive. Once the path is in the box, click on the CREATE button. o Once created, your newly created notebook displays. At the top of the note page you will notice a section tab. Create/Insert a new tab for each of the classes you are in this semester. (Hint: bottom part of the toolbar on the left, click the drop down menu of the NEW tool and click SECTION a new section tab will appear and you can start typing to title it or right click on the tab and select REMAME) o Perform a Screen Print of your Classes Notebook with your CIS150 Section Tab open. 1

2 Add a new notebook. Title this notebook Work First Name Last Name sec###. o Apply the Work Template when crating this notebook and repeat the steps to save it on your flash drive. Once you click create, your Work Notebook displays and you will notice the work related section tabs across the top of the sheet. o Make the following alteration to the Section Tabs of the Work Notebook. Change the section tab colors of Meeting Notes to red, Project A to teal, and Travel to purple. (Hint: right click on the tabs look for a color tool) Delete section tabs Research, Planning, and Miscellaneous. o Pull up the Meeting Notes section tab of the Work notebook. One the right hand side of the note sheet you will notice a new page function. Add four(4) new pages with the Simple Meeting Minutes Notes 2 template. (Hint: Click the new page drop down menu, at the bottom click more template choices and options, then select the appropriate template.) o Let s say you will be taking notes at a meeting every Wednesday for 4 weeks starting on the 6 th of February. Title your pages appropriately so you will be prepared for each of the meetings. (Hint: each new page name/title should read 02/06/2008, 02/13/2008, 02/20/2008, and 02/27/2008 do this by typing in the top title area of the note sheet.) o Perform a Screen Print with the Meeting Notes tab of you Work notebook open. Go back to your CIS150 Note Page by clicking on the Classes notebook tab and then the CIS150 section tab. o Title this page Student Profile. o Answer the following questions in this page: 1. What is your name and section number? 2. Who is your instructor? 3. What is your address? 4. If you are a full time student do you also work? What do you do? If you are not a full time student, what do you do for a living? 5. Do you have your own computer? a. What brand is it? b. Is it a desktop or laptop? c. Approximately how old is it (brand new, one year, two years, etc)? d. Does your computer have Windows Vista or XP operating system? e. Does your computer have Office 2007, Office 2003,Word, Excel, Access, and/or PowerPoint (be very specific about each)? 6. Please copy and paste a PG 13 picture of yourself into this page. If you do not have one please come to an Open Lab and have one taken. Be sure to bring your Jump Drive with you to save the photo. 7. Having completed the Learning Styles assessment, what is your preferred learning style? 2

3 o Print your Student Profile note page. Close your Work notebook and Class notebook by right clicking on the tab and selecting close. Once you have completed this, the screen should look like it did when you opened it. To finish Close OneNote by clicking on the X in the upper right.
