2 Exsft Backup Manager Ensuring databases are backed up regularly is a critical part f any cmpany data recvery prcess. Mst mnth end as well as end f financial year prcesses shuld include a database backup t prvide the ability t rll back r restre data frm prir t the change in data. TimeTrak nw has the ability t backup bth Ex and TimeTrak databases t a netwrk share via the TimeTrak Administratr Cnsle in versin 4.0 nwards. There is als a Backup buttn in the psting screen t prmpt users t backup bth databases prir t cmpleting a large pst, which we recmmend. Fr mre infrmatin n database backups in TimeTrak, click here. Due t the value regular database backups can prvide businesses in the event f disaster recvery, we have a free SQL database backup tl Exsft SQL Server Backup, which is an applicatin that can be used t easily backup and restre SQL Server databases. It can run as a scheduled service and supprts the ing f result(s) t users. This is a great tl fr MSDE and SQL Express envirnments where there is n ability t setup scheduled maintenance plans fr database backups. Exsft SQL Server Backup requires prir installatin f Micrsft.NET framewrk 4.0. T dwnlad the applicatin g t:

3 1. Install the applicatin n the server/ PC yu require it t run frm. Nte: Make sure the applicatin is running with administratr permissins as per belw: 2. On the first time running the sftware, yu will be asked fr cnnectin details. Chse yur server name and authenticatin methd and enter credentials:

4 3. After cnnecting t the server, yu will be taken t the belw Backup tab f the applicatin. Frm here, yu can select a database frm the server yu have cnnected in the Database Name drp dwn. Exsft Backup Manager can backup and restre databases n a specified schedule. Backup The Backup tab as per abve will prvide infrmatin n what server and database the applicatin is currently cnnected t. Yu can specify the backup lcatin and filename f a manual backup here. There is als the ptin t verwrite r append the file. In this tab yu are als able t set up an autmatic backup schedule by clicking Schedule which will pen the Scheduled Backup Wizard as per belw.

5 The Scheduled Backup Wizard is similar t the backup tab abve where yu need t chse yur database name and filename. Nte: Remember t chse yur backup lcatin first in the Backup tab. Yu will als need t name yur schedule and chse hw frequent yu wish t run the backup scheduler. Finally, there is als an ptin t delete any backup based n hw ld it is, ensuring yu d nt take up t much space n yur server. Restre Exsft Backup Manager is als able t restre a database frm a backup. Please nte: It is highly recmmended that a Database Restre Passwrd is enabled.

6 Schedule Frm the Schedule tab, the Scheduled Backup Wizard can be run t setup the frequency that yu wuld like yur database t be backed up alng with the file name and file lcatin. Frm here, yu can set hw yu want t run the scheduled backup. The next screen wuld lk different, depending n the ptin yu picked earlier: Daily Weekly

8 At the end f the wizard after yu have specified the backup frequency, yu can set up an ntificatin t g t tw different addresses when the backup schedule is run as per belw: The wizard will have an verview f the schedule yu have created, n cmpletin as per belw allwing yu t g back and make changes, if required, r finish t cmplete the setup.

9 Back n the Schedule tab, yu can see an verview f all active backup schedules. Please nte: Exsft Backup Manager runs via a windws service that will need t be started frm this tab by clicking start Settings There are a few settings in Exsft Backup Manager that can make the applicatin easier t use.

10 Enable Ntificatins The ability t send ntificatins when the backup schedule has run is dependent n the applicatin having settings setup here. This setting shuld be enabled with SMTP settings entered as per belw: Enable Cnnectin Saving

11 This setting will autmatically save any server cnnectin yu setup. This is useful if yu require the ability t backup databases frm different servers. Yu can chse the server cnnectin n the bttm f the screen as per belw: Database Restre Passwrd Prtectin T prevent anybdy except a trained cnsultant frm restring a database, yu can set a database restre passwrd here t prevent a database accidently being restred and data being lst. This setting is highly recmmended fr anyne using this applicatin. Nte: When it is yur first setup, leave Old Passwrd blank.

12 Cnnect t Server n Startup If this setting is enabled, yu will nt be required t enter server credentials every time yu pen the applicatin. Prmpt fr Filename When Manually Running Schedules This setting is very useful t prevent previus backups being verwritten because f the same filename. It will prmpt yu t enter the filename when yu click the backup buttn. Append Date t Filename When Ding a Backup This setting is very helpful t autmatically add the date t the file name again assisting with the preventin f lss f previus backups and easily identifying the date the backup was cmpleted n. Default Backup Lcatin As mentined, this is where yur default backup lcatin will be stred. Nte: The accunt that SQL is running under will need access t this file lcatin. Aut Fill Filename with The Database Name When Selecting Backup Similar t previus settings, this setting cpies the database name as filename.
