1 When you purchase IBM developerworks Premium, one of the benefits you ll receive is a monthly credit of $45 that you can use specifically against a SoftLayer Virtual Server with one processor core, two gigabytes of memory, and 25 gigabytes of SAN storage. This credit is provided via a promotional code that you can use to receive a $45 monthly credit. Note that the credit does not roll over to the next month if you don t use all of the $45 in a month, the remainder is not carried over to the next month. To use the benefit, go to the SoftLayer home page at Once there, you ll order your virtual server with 1 core, 2 GB RAM, and 25 GB SAN, choose the data center to host your virtual server, select your operating system, and then checkout by applying your SoftLayer promotional code and your credit card, which will only be charged if you exceed your $45 monthly credit. Detailed Ordering Instructions Although web sites change frequently, this guide should help you order your SoftLayer Virtual Server. Go to the SoftLayer home page at Click on the Order Virtual area on the web page as shown below. There are also two Order Now buttons on the page that will take you through a slightly different workflow described later. 2 Choose to create a virtual server and set the sliders to define a virtual server with one core, two gigabytes of memory, and 25 gigabytes of SAN storage: Once you ve set the sliders appropriately, click on the monthly price button. This will take you to a page to configure your virtual server IBM Corporation. All rights reserved. 2

3 First, select the data center to host your virtual server this may affect the monthly price of your virtual server because some locations are a bit more expensive than others. Here, we have selected the WDC04 server: 2015 IBM Corporation. All rights reserved. 3

4 Then confirm that you have a single core server with 2 GB of RAM and 25 GB of SAN storage you won t be able to apply the promo code if you have more than one core, or different values for the RAM and SAN storage. Also, select the operating system you wish to use. In this case, we ve chosen CentOS 7.x LAMP Install (64 bit) but you can choose from any of the operating systems listed IBM Corporation. 5 You can also select options and addons shown in the Network Options, System Addons, Storage Addons, and Service Addons areas of the page. Some of these are available at no charge and others add to your monthly bill. Any amount of your monthly bill exceeding your monthly credit will be charged to you credit card. 6 On the Checkout page, confirm you selected Cloud Server configuration, specify the Host and Domain names, and then enter your Promotional Code into the box and click the Apply button, and finally, read the Master Service Agreement and check the box agreeing to its terms if they are acceptable to you.
