Follow all warigs ad istructios idicated o the priter. Before cleaig the priter, discoect the power supply. Clea the priter with a damp cloth. Do ot use liquid or spray products. Do ot operate the priter ear water. Do ot use the priter o ustable surfaces that might cause it to fall ad be seriously damaged. 1

8 INTRODUCTION Oly use the priter o hard surfaces ad i eviromets that guaratee proper vetilatio. Make sure the priter is placed i such a way as to avoid damage (Tab.A.3) to its wirig. Use the type of electrical power supply idicated o the priter label. If i doubt, cotact your retailer. Do ot block the vetilatio opeigs. Do ot itroduce foreig objects of ay kid ito the priter as this could cause a short circuit or damage parts that could jeopardize priter fuctioig. Do ot spill liquids oto the priter. Do ot carry out techical operatios o the priter, with the exceptio of the scheduled maiteace procedures specifically idicated i the user maual. Discoect the priter from the electricity supply ad have it repaired by a specialized techicia whe: A. The feed coector has bee damaged. B. Liquid has seeped iside the priter. C. The priter has bee exposed to rai or water. D. The priter is ot fuctioig ormally despite the fact that all istructios i the users maual have bee followed. E. The priter has bee dropped ad its outer casig damaged. F. Priter performace is poor. G. The priter is ot fuctioig. UNPACKING THE PRINTER Remove the priter from its carto beig careful ot to damage the packig material so that it may be re-used if the priter is to be trasported i the future. Make sure that all the compoets illustrated below are preset ad that there are o sigs of damage. If there are, cotact Customer Service. 1. Paper roll (216mm) 2. Maual (or CD-Rom) 3. Keep the box, trays ad packig materials i the evet the priter must be trasported/shipped i the future. 3

10 INTRODUCTION PRINTER FEATURES The KPM is a A4/US letter format thermal priter desiged (Tab.A.3) for Iteret, iformatio ad reservatio kiosks ad automatic teller (ATM) machies. It is available i two models: 204 dpi (8 dots/mm) thermal pritig mechaism versio ad 3 dpi (11.8 dots/mm) thermal pritig mechaism versio. Both versios utilize 210/216 mm-wide paper rolls. I additio to ormal pritig fuctios, the KPM offers a wide array of special features: High speed pritig: P ower cosumptio KPM210/21 6 L ow curret M edium Curret H igh curret 50 mm/sec 60 mm/sec 65 mm/sec Easy paper chagig (automatic paper loadig). ESC/POS emulatio. Paper width: 210/216 mm (8.5 ). Bar code UPC-A. UPC-E, EAN13, EAN8, CODE39, ITF, CODABAR, CODE93, CODE128 ad CODE32. 3 stadard ad iteratioal character set fots. Programmable fots. 11 INTRODUCTION PRINTER DESCRIPTION The priter (fig.2) is comprised of a metal frame, pritig mechaism, a cutter ad a ejector Located o the keypad are the followig keys: LINE FEED (1), FORM FEED (2) ad status LED (3). LINE FEED key. Whe the LINE FEED key is pressed, the priter advaces the paper so that the paper may be iserted i the pritig mechaism. Durig power-up, if the LINE FEED key is held dow, the priter will perform the FONT TEST routie. FORM FEED key. Whe the FORM FEED key is pressed, the priter advaces the paper by a pre-set legth. Durig power-up, if the FORM FEED key is held dow, the priter eters the SETUP routie. STATUS LED idicates priter hardware status. Baud Rate (2) : 576, 384, 192 D, 96, 48, 24, 12. Data legth (2) : 7, 8 D bits/char. Parity (2) : Noe D, eve or odd. Hadshakig (2) : XON/XOFF D or Hardware. Receive buffer size (2) : 16, 64, 1K, 4K, 8K D bytes. Autofeed: CR deactivated D or CR activated. Prit mode: Normal D or Reverse. Characters per ich: 204 dpi versio: A=11 B=15 cpi D, A=15 B=20 cpi. 3 dpi versio: A=17 B=23 cpi D, A=23 B=30 cpi. Speed/Cosumptio: Low, Medium D, High. Paper retract at power-up (3) : Deactivated D or Activated. Prit desity: -50%, -37%, -25%, -12%, Normal D, +12%, +25%, +37%, +50%. Please ote: the parameters marked with the symbol D represet the default values. (1) N.B.: This parameter is displayed if the priter has a USB iterface. (2) N.B.: If the priter has a USB iterface, the serial iterface cofiguratio parameters are ot displayed. (3) N.B.: If, at power-up, paper is preset o the ejector ad if this parameter has bee activated, the priter will retract the paper. Otherwise, if the parameter is deactivated, the priter will eject the paper. The settigs made are stored i EEPROM (ovolatile memory). Durig power-up, if the FORM FEED key is held dow, the priter eters the autotest routie ad prits out the setup report. The priter will remai i stadby i Hexadecimal dump mode (see sectio 1.3) util aother key is pressed or characters are received through the priter commuicatio port. Whe the FORM FEED key is pressed, the priter eters parameter cofiguratio. Whe the LINE FEED key is pressed, the priter exits setup ad termiates the Hexadecimal dump fuctio. 1-2

15 1. INSTALLATION AND USE Whe the receive buffer is full, if hadshakig is set to XON/XOFF, the priter seds the XOFF ($13) o the serial port. Whe the receive buffer has cleared oce agai, if hadshakig is set to XON/XOFF, the priter seds the XON ($11) o the serial port. 1.3 HEXADECIMAL DUMP This fuctio is used to display the characters received from the commuicatios port; the priter prits out both the hexadecimal code received as well as the correspodig ASCII code. Oce the autotest routie has fiished, the priter eters Hexadecimal Dump mode. The priter remais i stadby util a key is pressed or characters are received from the commuicatios port; for every 24 characters received (204 dpi versio) or every 32 characters received (3 dpi versio), it prits hexadecimal values ad ASCII codes (if the characters appear uderlied, it meas the receive buffer is full). Show below is a example of a Hexadecimal Dump for the 204 dpi (24 character) versio: D 61 6C D E F Hexadecimal dump fuctio 6E A 6B 6C abcdefghijkl 6D 6E 6F A mopqrstuvwxyz 1.4 MAINTENANCE Chagig the paper roll To chage the roll of paper, proceed as follows: 1) Positio the paper roll (1) so that it urolls correctly as show i fig.1.2; 2) Isert the ed of the paper roll i the paper load opeig o the pritig mechaism (2) ad wait for the paper to load automatically (see fig. 1.2); 3) Remove the paper from the paper exit opeig (3) (4). (4) N.B.: The paper exit opeig may be assembled i oe of two positios, depedig o the model i use (see fig. 1.2). 1-3

18 1. INSTALLATION AND USE Adjustig paper width Figure 1.6 illustrates the two positios of the side guides used (Tab.A.3) to adjust paper width to 210mm ad 216mm. (Fig.1.6) 216mm 210mm 210mm 216mm To adjust paper width to 210mm or 216mm, proceed as follows: - from the paper load opeig (see fig. 1.7) loose the fasteig screws (2) of the side guides (1) ad, slidig them alog the slot, positio them accordig to the paper width desired (use the otches o the frot as a guide, as show i fig. 1.6). 2 1 (Fig.1.7)

WARNING Assemble the side guides so that they are aliged ad perpedicular to the paper load opeig Paper jams I the evet of a jam alog the paper path, proceed as follows: Tur the priter o ad off before removig the paper i order to cut the paper ad attempt to have it ejected. If this does ot solve the problem, proceed as follows: Paper jammed o ejector (see fig. 1.8): 1) Lift the roller cover (1). 2) Remove ay pieces of paper preset i the ejector rollers (2). 3) Remove ay paper preset i the paper exit opeig (5). (5) N.B.: The paper exit opeig may be assembled i oe of two positios, depedig o the model i use (see fig. 1.2). Paper jammed before the cutter (see fig. 1.8), lift the paper guide (3) ad perform oe of the two operatios below: 1) Lift the head lever (4) ad pull the paper back (5); remove ay pieces of paper. 2) Remove the prit head (see sectio 1.4.5) ad pull the paper back (5); remove ay pieces of paper. 1-7

Do ot perform ay operatio iside the priter immediately after pritig because the head ad motor ted to become very hot. The priter must be tured off whe the pritig head uit is removed. WARNING (*) Durig cleaig operatios the pritig head lever must remai i its stadby positio. Tur off the priter ad proceed as follows: 1) Lift the paper guide (1) as show i fig ) Pressig dow o the two sides of the head (2) with your idex figers, use your thumbs to push forward as show i fig ) Clea the pritig head heatig lie (1) usig a o-abrasive cloth (Fig.1.9) *
