8 8 MasterSwitch 100V User Guide 8 Chapter 1: Itroductio The APC MasterSwitch is a etwork-maageable power cotrol uit (PCU) that allows you complete, idepedet cotrol of power to eight relay-cotrolled outlets. This cotrol is programmable usig ay of the followig strategies: Web-based cotrol. The MasterSwitch features embedded Web maagemet. Simple etwork maagemet protocol (SNMP) cotrol. The MasterSwitch comes with its ow PowerNet ad MIB-II compliat MIB (APC MasterSwitch-MIB) to allow a remote etwork maagemet statio to use SNMP to program cotrol of the MasterSwitch ad its eight outlets. Cosole cotrol. The MasterSwitch has a built-i serial port which allows you to coect a termial (or termial emulator) directly to the MasterSwitch to use its iteral cosole program to cofigure power cotrol. Telet support. The MasterSwitch provides a telet iterface that permits remote access to the termial cosole program. MasterSwitch Web cotrol fuctios ad the MasterSwitch cosole program are protected by a user ame/password pair. The default user ame is apc, i lower case. The default password is apc. This guide focuses o providig iformatio o how to use SNMP, telet, or a termial to program the MasterSwitch. Iformatio o how to program the MasterSwitch usig its embedded Web maagemet feature is provided by a separate o-lie help applicatio that focuses solely o how to use the Web maagemet capabilities. Overview The MasterSwitch is a etwork maageable power cotrol uit (PCU) that: Coects a sigle 100VAC, 50/60Hz iput to eight 100VAC, 50/60Hz outlets. The overall output of these outlets is limited to 15 amps ad protected by a resettable 15-amp circuit breaker. The outlets, circuit breaker ad ilet coector are all located o the MasterSwitch rear pael. Allows programmable cotrol of the MasterSwitch, such as defiig a delay betwee power comig o for the MasterSwitch ad master power goig to the outlets, or turig o, off or rebootig all outlets at oe time. Allows idepedet, programmable cotrol over each of its eight outlets, such as defiig whe a outlet will provide power after master power is provided, or turig o, off or rebootig each outlet idividually without affectig the output from ay other outlet. Is desiged to mout i a APC NetShelter ad coect to a UPS for its iput power. The MasterSwitch does ot provide power protectio. Therefore, APC does ot recommed pluggig the MasterSwitch directly ito ay uprotected power source, such as a wall outlet.

9 9 MasterSwitch 100V User Guide 9 Frot Pael The primary feature of the MasterSwitch is the programmable cotrol of eight power outlets usig embedded Web-based cotrol, SNMP cotrol, or the cosole program via telet or the oboard serial port. Two coectors provide for the physical lik for programmig: A built-i serial port, which coects a termial (or termial emulator) to access the cosole program. A built-i 10Base-T etwork coector, which coects the MasterSwitch to a Etheret LAN to allow usig the embedded Web cotrol, telet, or SNMP to cofigure the MasterSwitch. The MasterSwitch must coect to a Etheret LAN to use telet, SNMP or embedded Web cotrol. As show i Figure 1, both of these coectors are located o the frot pael. Figure 1 also idetifies the followig: Eight receptacle LEDs. Whe a outlet is o, the correspodig LED is lit. Two etwork status LEDs Status ad Lik - TX/RX. 10 10 MasterSwitch 100V User Guide 10 Chapter 2: Iitial Setup The MasterSwitch must have its etwork settigs defied for it to fuctio properly for SNMP, telet, or embedded Web cotrol of its output power: Its IP address The IP address of the default gateway The subet mask HTTP ad telet port umber (for Web-based or telet cotrol) How the MasterSwitch iitially gets these values depeds o whether or ot you will be usig a BOOTP server: The MasterSwitch comes with the Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP) settig eabled. This allows you to cofigure a BOOTP server to provide the eeded subet mask ad IP values: 1) Idetify the MAC address of the MasterSwitch. This address is provided o a label that is attached to the MasterSwitch side pael. 2) Refer to your BOOTP server documetatio for iformatio o how to use that server to cofigure the MasterSwitch etwork values. If you will ot be usig a BOOTP server you must use a termial to access the MasterSwitch, ad use its cosole program. To access the cosole program: 1) Coect oe ed of the cable that comes with the MasterSwitch to the coector labeled Serial Port at the frot of the MasterSwitch. 2) Coect the cable to the serial port of the termial (or termial emulator). 3) Set the termial serial port for baud, 8 data bits, o parity, 1 stop bit ad press <Eter>. 4) Whe the User Name: prompt appears, eter the case-sesitive, default user ame (apc). 5) Whe the Password: prompt appears, eter the case-sesitive, default password (apc). 6) Oce the mai cofiguratio meu appears: r Use the Passwords optio uder the MasterSwitch submeu to chage the logi password. The cosole, telet, ad Web cotrol share the same password. Whe you chage the password usig the cosole, telet, or Web cotrol, you chage the password for all three cotrol fuctios. r Use the TCP/IP optio uder the Network submeu to disable BOOTP ad defie: a) The IP address for the MasterSwitch. b) The IP address for the default gateway. c) The subet mask value. r Use the Logout optio to exit the cosole program, or use ay of the other mai cofiguratio meu optios to further defie the MasterSwitch operatio before you log out. See Chapter 6 for more iformatio o how to use the cosole program.

11 11 Chapter 3: Loggig O MasterSwitch 100V User Guide 11 This chapter describes how Web cotrol, cosole program, ad SNMP access is cotrolled so that oly oe cotrol optio (Web cotrol, cosole or SNMP) ca be used at a time for write activity. Refereces throughout this documet to the cosole program apply to telet sessios ad serial commuicatios sessios, which provide idetical termial-style meus. Types of Access The MasterSwitch allows simultaeous read-oly access from Web cotrol, cosole sessio (via the serial cable or telet) ad SNMP. It does ot allow simultaeous write access. You ca use Web cotrol, cosole sessios or SNMP access to cofigure ad cotrol the MasterSwitch, but oly oe of these ca be used to write ew cofiguratio ad cotrol values at a time. Web cotrol ad termial cosole sessios have protected access usig a shared user ame/ password pair (the default password is apc, all lower case). SNMP access simply requires that the NMS be defied as havig SNMP access, ad that the NMS uses the proper commuity ame for the defied type of SNMP access. Logi Cotrol Termial cosole ad telet sessios have the highest access priority. If someoe has logged o to the MasterSwitch usig either of these iterfaces, Web cotrol access is disabled, ad SNMP access is limited to reads (GETs) oly. The embedded Web cotrol has the secod highest access priority. If someoe has logged o to the MasterSwitch usig the embedded Web cotrol, the SNMP access is limited to reads (GETs) oly. However, if someoe logs o to the MasterSwitch usig the termial cosole or telet while someoe is logged o to the Web cotrol, the Web cotrol user is automatically logged off. SNMP write (SETs) access to the MasterSwitch ca oly occur whe o oe is logged o to the MasterSwitch usig either Web cotrol or the termial cosole. SNMP access is cotrolled by MasterSwitch-MIB OIDs that defie what NMSs ca access the MasterSwitch, the access they have (read/write or just read) ad what commuity ame must be used for that access.

12 12 MasterSwitch 100V User Guide 12 Chapter 4: Cofigurig the MasterSwitch This chapter describes how to use SNMP, embedded Web cotrol or the cosole program to cofigure the MasterSwitch ad its eight, idividually-maageable power outlets. Most cofiguratio fuctios ca be performed usig Web, SNMP or cosole cotrol. However, some fuctios are uique to a give cotrol method(s). The descriptios i this chapter idetify which methods you ca use (Web, SNMP or cosole cotrol) for each described cofiguratio fuctio. Fuctios The MasterSwitch allows you to use SNMP, embedded Web or the termial cosole program to cofigure operatioal parameters or other values importat to usig the MasterSwitch: You ca use Web, SNMP or cosole cofiguratio commads to: r Defie a master power o delay value that affects all outlets equally. r Defie a reboot duratio value that affects all outlets equally. r Defie a MasterSwitch device ame. r Defie outlet device ames. r Defie idividual outlet power o values. r Defie SNMP access cotrol for up to four etwork maagemet statios (NMSs). r Defie up to four SNMP trap receivers. See Chapter 7: Usig SNMP for more iformatio o SNMP access cotrol ad trap receivers. r Reiitialize the MasterSwitch without affectig its outlet power. You ca use embedded Web cotrol, or the cosole program (but ot SNMP), to eable or disable BOOTP, or to defie the MasterSwitch IP address, the default gateway IP address or the subet mask etwork cofiguratio values eeded by the MasterSwitch to commuicate over the etwork. The cosole has a optio (HTTP Net Cofig) i the Network submeu that eables or disables the use of Web cotrol to chage the etwork cofiguratio values. See Chapter 2 for iformatio o how to use the cosole program to defie the eeded etwork values; See the help applicatio provided with the embedded Web cotrol for iformatio o how to use the Web cotrol feature. You ca use embedded Web cotrol, oly, to defie URL lik values for the MasterSwitch.

13 13 MasterSwitch 100V User Guide 13 Master Power O Delay You ca use Web, SNMP or cosole cofiguratio commads to defie how log a delay, if ay, will occur betwee power beig applied to the MasterSwitch ad master power beig provided to the MasterSwitch outlets. This allows you to sequece the master power whe you wat to make sure some other device has eough time to power-up before ay of the MasterSwitch load devices begi to power-up. For example: The MasterSwitch provides power to various servers ad workstatios. These MasterSwitch load devices coect to the etwork through hub compoets that get their power from the same UPS as the MasterSwitch, but ot from the MasterSwitch, itself. By delayig the MasterSwitch master power, you ca esure that the hub compoets are up ad ruig o the etwork before the compoets that coect to the MasterSwitch. The allowable delay values are: r Never apply power automatically (requires usig a cotrol commad to tur o power) r Apply power immediately (o delay) r Apply power i 15 secods r Apply power i 30 secods r Apply power i 45 secods r Apply power i 60 secods (1 miute) r Apply power i 120 secods (2 miutes) r Apply power i 300 secods (5 miutes) Outlet Power O Delay You ca use Web, SNMP or cosole cofiguratio commads to defie how log a delay, if ay, will occur betwee the MasterSwitch supplyig master power to a outlet (as defied by the Master Power O Delay described above) ad that outlet supplyig power to the coected device. This allows you to sequece the power from each outlet whe you wat to make sure the devices coected to the MasterSwitch power up i a specific order. For example: The MasterSwitch provides power to various servers ad workstatios. These MasterSwitch load devices iclude a priter, a prit server ad several workstatios that use the server ad priter. By delayig the power output of each outlet, you ca esure that the server ad priter are both up ad ruig before the workstatios that will use them. The allowable delay values are: r Never power o automatically (requires usig a cotrol commad to tur o the outlet s power) r Power o immediately with master (o delay) r Power o 15 secods after master r Power o 30 secods after master r Power o 45 secods after master r Power o 60 secods (1 miute) after master r Power o 120 secods (2 miutes) after master r Power o 300 secods (5 miutes) after master

This delay, which applies to the reboot activity at all outlets, allows you to esure that the MasterSwitch is cofigured for a delay that meets the eed of ay device that is coected to ay of the MasterSwitch outlets. The allowable reboot o/off delay values are: r Wait 5 secods betwee off/o r Wait 10 secods betwee off/o r Wait 15 secods betwee off/o r Wait 20 secods betwee off/o r Wait 30 secods betwee off/o r Wait 45 secods betwee off/o r Wait 60 secods (1 miute) betwee off/o MasterSwitch Device Name You ca use Web, SNMP or cosole cofiguratio commads to defie a ame for the MasterSwitch, as a whole. This ame ca be up to 20 characters i legth. Outlet Device Name You ca use Web, SNMP or cosole cofiguratio commads to defie a ame for each of eight MasterSwitch outlets. These ames ca each be up to 20 characters i legth. URL Liks You ca use the embedded Web cotrol, oly, to defie URL liks: For example: You ca defie liks to other world wide Web pages. You ca defie the Device URL: value i each of the Web cotrol s Outlet Cofiguratio pages to coect you to the worldwide Web home page for the maufacturer of the device that coects to a specific outlet wheever you click o the lik symbol for that outlet s device. 15 15 MasterSwitch 100V User Guide 15 Chapter 5: Cotrollig the MasterSwitch This chapter describes how you ca use Web, SNMP or cosole commads (telet or serial sessios) to cotrol output power from the MasterSwitch, as a uit, or from each outlet, idividually. Overview Usig cofiguratio optios (Chapter 4) you ca cotrol power output from the MasterSwitch by defiig such values as whe master power is supplied to the outlets, ad the sequece the power output from each outlet. The MasterSwitch cotrol optios allow you to further cotrol the power output, as follows: You ca use a master power cotrol to tur all outlets o, tur all outlets off or reboot all outlets. You ca use outlet cotrols to tur o, off or reboot a idividual outlet. Master Power Cotrol You ca use Web, SNMP or cosole commads to cotrol master power to the MasterSwitch outlets: You ca tur all outlets off immediately. You ca tur all outlets o immediately. You ca tur all outlets o i sequece (as defied by a outlet s power o delay value). You ca reboot all outlets immediately. You ca reboot all outlets i sequece (as defied by a outlet s power o delay value). Outlet Power Cotrol You ca use Web, SNMP or cosole commads to cotrol the power output from each MasterSwitch outlet: You ca tur a outlet off. You ca tur a outlet o. You ca reboot the equipmet (tur power off ad the back o), with the duratio of the reboot cycle defied by the reboot duratio value you cofigured for the MasterSwitch outlets.

16 16 MasterSwitch 100V User Guide 16 Chapter 6: Usig the Cosole Program This chapter describes how to use the cosole program to cofigure ad cotrol output power from the MasterSwitch as a uit, or from each outlet idividually. The cosole program is accessed via the serial port or via telet. Fuctios The cosole program allows you to perform all MasterSwitch cofiguratio ad cotrol fuctios except defiitio of URL liks for the MasterSwitch ad its outlets. You ca use the cosole program to defie ad cotrol the followig values eeded for MasterSwitch operatio: Defie the iitial etwork cofiguratio values eeded by the MasterSwitch. Whe a BOOTP server (Chapter 2) is ot beig used, the cosole program must be used via the serial port to iitially defie these values. Oce these values are defied ad BOOTP is disabled, you ca use the cosole program (icludig telet sessios) or the embedded web cotrol to modify the values. Defie NMSs that ca use SNMP to access the MasterSwitch, the kid of access they will have, ad commuity ames they must use for that access. Defie NMSs that ca receive SNMP traps. Cotrol master power by turig o, turig off or rebootig all MasterSwitch outlets. Defie a master power o delay time value for providig master power to the outlets. Defie a outlet power o value for each outlet so that you ca cotrol the sequece of power o to the MasterSwitch outlets. Tur off, o or reboot ay outlet, idividually. Defie a ame for the MasterSwitch. Defie a device ame for each outlet. Defie the amout of time (reboot duratio) that power remais off durig reboot cycles. Additioally, the cosole program allows you: View factory preset iformatio (serial umber, model umber, etc.). Use pig to test etwork commuicatio. Set the serial port baud rate. Chage the password used to log ito the cosole program ad web cotrol. Cacel outstadig commads, reiitialize the MasterSwitch (without affectig its outlet power), reset EEPROM values to their default settigs.

17 17 MasterSwitch 100V User Guide 17 Accessig the Cosole Program There are two methods of accessig the cosole program: via the serial port or via telet. Via the Serial Port Via telet 1) Coect oe ed of the cable that came with the MasterSwitch to the coector labeled Serial Port at the frot of the MasterSwitch. 2) Coect the remaiig ed of the cable to the serial port of the termial (or termial emulator). 3) Set the termial serial port for baud ad press <Eter>. 1) Type telet <ip> (where <ip> is the ip address of the MasterSwitch to which you wish to coect. Usig telet requires that the ip address of the MasterSwitch be previously set (usig bootp or the cosole program via the serial port). Whe the User Name: prompt appears, eter the default, case-sesitive user-ame (apc) ad press <Eter>. At the Password: prompt, eter the default password (apc) ad press <Eter>.
