4 Academic Honesty Policy Academic honesty is expected of all students. It is the ethical behavior that includes producing their own work and not representing others work as their own, either by plagiarism, by cheating, or by helping others to do so. Plagiarism is the failure to give credit for the use of material from outside sources. Plagiarism includes but is not limited to: Using data, quotations, or paraphrases from other sources without adequate documentation. Submitting others work as your own. Exhibiting other behaviors generally considered unethical. Cheating means obtaining answers/material from an outside source without authorization. Cheating includes, but is not limited to: plagiarizing in all forms using notes/books without authorization copying submitting others work as your own or submitting your work for others altering graded work falsifying data exhibiting other behaviors generally considered unethical Collaboration While JCC encourages students to collaborate in study groups, work teams, and with lab partners, each student should take responsibility for accurately representing his/her own contribution. Consequences/Procedures Faculty members who suspect a student of academic dishonesty may penalize the student by taking appropriate action up to and including assigning a failing grade for the paper, project, report, exam, or the course itself. Instructors should document instances of academic dishonesty in writing to the dean of Faculty. Anyone caught cheating on an assignment or exam will receive a zero for that project. If caught cheating more than once, the student will receive a zero for the class. Computer Lab Hours The schedule for drop-in laboratory time will be posted at the beginning of the semester. Student Appeal Process In the event of a dispute, both students and faculty should follow the Conflict Resolution Policy. This policy is represented in Student Rights and Responsibilities (student handbook) and the Master Agreement. Attendance Policy Attendance is expected in all class and laboratory periods. Since regular attendance is necessary for successful college work, no class or laboratory absences are disregarded. Attendance will be CIS 232 Integrated Design II 4

5 periodically reported the Registrar s Office during the semester. You can view the attendance report on JCC e-services. Following are the codes that will be used: H = The student is not doing acceptable work and needs Help to be successful. Q = The student has not participated and the instructor believes they have unofficially withdrawn (Quit). These students will be dropped/withdrawn if they do not attend the first class. V = The instructor Verifies that the student is participating and doing acceptable work. Extra Help If you are having a problem with class material, attendance, or other class related matters, please contact your instructor. Tutors (plus additional services for academic success) can be accessed by calling or by stopping by the Center for Student Success. Student Responsibilities The student is responsible for the material covered in a missed class. Notify your instructor in advance if you are going to miss an exam and make arrangements to take that exam. Associate Degree Outcomes: The Jackson Community College Board of Trustees has developed a list of essential skills which all of its associate degree graduates will enhance during their college experience. The Board has said: JCC s goal is to prepare students to live productive and meaningful lives. Implicit in this goal are efforts to prepare students to: (a) live and work in the twenty-first century, (b) be employed in situations which will require retraining several times during a productive life, and (c) function in a rapidly changing informational society. The highest priority skills include, among others: 1) The ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and intelligibly, using oral skills 2) Use critical thinking and problem solving skills 3) Use computers and other technologies appropriate to the program of study Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1) Design and produce printed publications by exploring, drafting, revising, proofreading and editing documents (ADO 1a) 2) Work productively with others. (ADO 5) 3) Use word processing software to create documents to be placed and formatted in desktop publishing software. 12 Custom Promo Document Due Date: 4/4 Design a document with an unconventional, customized shape; it must have something unusual or unique in its shape and fold. Start by folding an 8 ½ by 11 piece of paper into multiple shapes to determine your final composition; You could explore origami shapes or ideas such as a cootie catcher, triangle, butterfly, etc. (A book on Origami is a good place for ideas or Measure the folds and digitally mark the areas for graphics/type in your InDesign document. (use Master Pages for as many guides as you can) The final document can be smaller than letter size paper. Choose a product, company, or event to promote. Gather graphics (hi-res, no pixilated images*) and information about your topic. 14 Booklet Due Dates Thumbnails 4/4 Final 4/25 Design and produce an eight-page booklet with a theme of your choice. Objective Begin by developing design concepts, page composition and typographic aesthetics in conjunction with skills, including: importing text and images, formatting text, paragraph and object styles, tabs and tables. Utilize master pages, and work with reader (facing pages) and printer spreads (pages designed on the actual size paper it will be printed on) to produce, print and bind a booklet. Document Layout: & Page size: Plan page size so that a spread can be printed on standard size paper (8 1/2 by 11, 8 1/2 by 14, or 11 by 17 ) Number of pages: 8 - w/ self cover Binding: fold, comb binding, saddle stitch (stapled on spine), glued spine, or another binding of your choice. Thumbnail sketches: Plan your layout before you start working on the computer. Create thumbnail sketches to determine your approach to the page design. You may include photos or illustrations throughout the book, these elements must relate to your theme. Your pages should work together to balance one another; but have enough distinctiveness for the book to flow. Remember, if all pages are essentially the same, the book gets boring. If the pages are too different, there is no cohesiveness. Grading: Use these InDesign functions: Master Pages (include auto pgs) Imported Graphic/Images Indents, Tabs & Paragraph Leading (space before & after)... 5 Styles (Paragraph, Character, Object) TOC & Index Thumbnail Sketches turned in BEFORE starting project on the computer Appearance & Organization No spelling or grammatical errors Packaged document & PDF for print included Total Points Available 100 Please Note: For professional looking documents, you will need to utilize a printer other than the classroom printer. For presenting your best work and a fine document you should make arrangements to have it printed elsewhere. These college printers are best used for proofing assignments only. CIS 232 Integrated Design II 14

Project must include these tested and working elements: 1 - video 1 - hyperlink 1 - button with various states (min. of one button - must include normal, rollover and click state) 1 - animatied element 1 - page transition Submit the packaged InDesign document, the interactive PDF and the SWF files in a zipped folder. Grading: Layout is eye-catching and interesting to view...10 Interactive elements: Video...10 Button(s) with various states...10 Hyperlink...5 Animation...5 Page Transition...5 Document theme is informative and consistant throughout...5 Total Points Available 50 CIS 232 Integrated Design II 15

16 Packaging, Exporting & Submitting Unless otherwise stated, all your InDesign files should be submitted packaged (which includes the native file, links and fonts) and the zipped folder you submit should contain the packaged folder and the exported PDF (in the appropriate format - print, interactive, swf, etc...) For all your assignments and projects, you will be required to do one or more of the following procedures for file submission. SAVING: Your last name, underscore, project name ex: hayden_profile.indd hayden_profile.pdf PACKAGING: Name folder with your last name then the project name ex: Hayden Profile EXPORTING: Export all PDF for print as high quality for print unless otherwise instructed Export other interactive elements following guidelines for online viewing ZIPPING: Contain all files (packaged or otherwise) in a folder with your name and the project name. Zip or compress the folder (depending on the computer you are using) prior to submitting. PRINT PROVIDER SPECS: Most printers will want to have the original (native) document packaged so that all fonts and links are included. They will also want you to send a PDF for print (high quality) with bleed marks and crop marks. In certain scenarios, they may require a hard copy, or a printed sample of how the final document is to look once it is completed. If in doubt - always ask! CIS 232 Integrated Design II 16
