1 Capital Area Career Center Graphic Arts Syllabus Instructor: Kimberly Seiz Room: 234 Hours: 8:00 3:30 Phone: , ext Fax: Course Description This is beginning course covering digital media as it applies to print. Students will be introduced to color theory, font usage, the principles and elements of good design, and different printing techniques and outputs. Course Objectives/Learning Outcomes 1. To understand the terminology associated with print production 2. To develop design skills and knowedge 3. To have a working knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop 4. Learn more advanced techniques with image making and editing 5. Produce a high quality portfolio of finished work. Student Expectations This is a LAB class in which students must be present to learn and use the equipment Come to class PREPARED - bring your own pencil, pen, assignments, etc. Listen to and follow instructions Attend class and be punctual Show respect for CACC, other people and their property Obey CACC rules as stated in the Student Handbook Class Procedures: Begin class with attendance - sign in book and be in your seat - if your seat is empty you will be marked absent Each unexcused tardy results in loss of 1/2 of daily class participation points Progress reports are issued at the mid point of every nine week period Permissible number of make up days for missed work is determined by number of days excused absence. Use of School Facilities: Leave classroom only with my approval - this includes going to the bathroom Work only in the lab area assigned and only with equipment you are approved to operate Observe CACC rules while in the Commons Area Parent s written consent is required before student may operate school equipment All students may use the CACC Learning Resource Center Page 1 of 5 Last Edited on August 18, 2017
2 Supplies Required to Bring to Class: Pencils Pens Paper 1 or Ring Binder for Portfolio 2 (or more) T-Shirts (by 1 st week in October color of shirts will be dictated by your designs) Optional Photo Resources commons.wikimedia.org Grading Each quarter your grade is determined by an accumulation of points from assignments, work ethics, and portfolio review - break down is as follows: Portfolio = 40% Work Ethic = 40% Assignments = 20% Portfolio will be graded on projects included and neatness Assignments grade will be determined by averaging your efforts in four categories. These categories breakdown as followed: Use of Class Time, Graphics Relevance, Graphics Originality, and Design Attractiveness (rubric attached). Late work will receive a reduction of one letter grade. Classroom Participation grade is determined upon being in class and work being completed on projects. Begin by opening every project, exporting or saving as.jpg files to a Digital Portfolio folder you save on your desktop. Turn in portfolio by end of period. 5 Digital Portfolio Place each project as a slide in imovie, add transitions, choose music carefully, calculate times, add fade-outs.
