2 This booklet is an introduction to get started with the University West IT services. MY ACCOUNT To be able to log on to the university s computers and to use our IT services you ll need a user account. For information about creating your account go to hv.se/student, Studies, Getting started with your studies. If you have an account already, you should continue to use that account. My Account is the system where you manage your account. Follow the instructions below if you can not log in or need to change your password. MANAGE YOUR ACCOUNT mittkonto.hv.se To manage your account do this: Go to hv.se/student. Click In English. Go to IT Services and Support, My Account. A. If you already have an account but can not log in, click on UNABLE TO LOG IN and follow the instructions. If you have previously registered your mobile number or your private address you may choose to receive a reset token for password sent by SMS or . B. If you need to change your password, add or change the mobile number or pin code, click EDIT. INFORMATION SECURITY Information is one of University West s most important assets. A security awareness among all users is required in order to protect the values represented by the information. Your login details is valuable and should be handled safely. If you suspect that somebody else knows your password then you should immediately change it. Go to the system My Account to change your password, see above. Do not use your University West password in other contexts. Remember that you are personally responsible for what happens during a login with your account. For information about your responsibility as a user go to hv.se/student, IT Services and Support, Rules and regulations. The information here includes the contingent liability you agreed to when you created your account. 2

3 THE STUDENT PAGES At hv.se/student you will find announcements and general information and the login-button to MyPage. If you proceed to IT Services and Support you will find information from the IT department, for example practical guides, FAQs, and information about applications etc. From here you can also access all of our web-based systems. MYPAGE, AND OFFICE 365 Once you have created your account, you can go to hv.se/student and log in to My- Page. On MyPage you ll find your personal information. MyPage is a part of Microsoft Office 365. This includes a large number of features such as , links to systems, collaborative sites for groups, and document management, etc. You can reach the various parts of Office 365 via the waffle in the upper left and come back to MyPage via the UW logo. Under My Links you will find links to several systems e. g. My Studies. Here you will find the information about you that is entered in the student record system LADOK. Here you are able to find results, print certificates related to your studies and also sign up for your exams. USE YOUR STUDENT ! It is important that you use your student as it is through this University West sends much of the information to you. The address you receive is structured as follows: firstname.lastname@student.hv.se You get an additional number after the name if someone with the same name has an account already. You have access to your via MyPage. LOG INTO MYPAGE / / OFFICE 365 In our Microsoft services you log in with your username followed This may look like this: buba0001@student.hv.se The password is the same as in your University West account. You have access to all the addresses of the university s students and staff, through Search student or staff in the system My account. Of course this means that your address is available to students and staff at the University as well. On the information page about Office 365 at hv.se/student you can find more information and practical guides. Guides for MyPage can be found on the help pages in MyPage. At login problems, contact Servicecenter. For support on Office 365 go to Microsoft support web pages. 3

4 DISCO - THE LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM DISCO is a learning management system that is used for communication and interaction between students and teachers. Here you ll find lecture material and course information among other things. It is up to the teacher in charge of the course how DisCo is used and therefore the courses may look a little different. The teacher chooses which features to be used in each course. FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO ENTER YOUR DISCO COURSE: 1. Go to hv.se/student, MyPage log in and and choose DisCo under My Links. 2. Click My Disco to go to the courses you have access to. If your course doesn t appear under Present Courses you have to register yourself via MyPage/My Links/Mina Studier/ New Registration. You will get access the the DisCo course in about one hour. If you have been registered on the course before, you can request access to the DisCo course by selecting one of the four alternatives under: Search courses. Select your course and then follow the instructions for gaining access. If the DisCo course is not locked, you can gain access by clicking the Subscribe button Once a subscriber you will have access to e. g. study material, schedule and syllabus including list of literature, you`ll be added to the roster and it becomes possible for the teacher to send to you. You will get the latest news from all the courses you are a subscriber to. WIRELESS NETWORK If you have a laptop, tablet or smartphone you can connect to the Internet through the network eduroam. Eduroam is a global network that is available at many colleges and universities, railway stations, airports, hotels and other places. Please note that before you can connect to eduroam the first time you must enter an eduroam password in the system My Account (mittkonto.hv.se). 5 FOR STUDENTS ON CAMPUS COMPUTER RESOURCES ON CAMPUS We have more than 500 student computers and you can find them in computer labs (highlighted in orange in the picture below), study landscapes and in some group study rooms. At hv.se/student you find more information about computer rooms and software. If you encounter problems with the university s computers, please contact Servicecenter. We have about 200 applications. The IT department is responsible for support in our standard software e.g. Microsft Office. The teachers are responsible for other softwares. Standard software is available on all computers. Please note! Food or drinks by the computers are not allowed. The picture shows the computer rooms on ground floor, marked in orange! 5

6 HOME DIRECTORY (H:\) The home directory is a safe place to store your files. When you log on to any computer on campus you can access your home directory. We recommend that you save your work here because backups are done regularly. Your Home directory is found under This PC. It is the drive with a name that contains your username and H:, see example: rino0001 on w8file01.wad.hv.se\users$\2007 (H:) The size of your home directory is limited to 2 GB. The files saved in the home directory can also be accessed from any internet connected computer. Log in to MyPage and select My files. It is important that you do not save locally on the computer s, C:, since files here can be deleted at any time. Note that My Documents and Desktop are linked to the C: drive, thus you will have to actively choose to save on your home directory. We want to warn you about only saving on a USB stick. USB sticks can break and they can easily get lost. WEST CARD In order to print on campus you need a West Card and money on your printing account. The card is also used as access card and library card. The pin code that you choose when you activate your account belongs to your West Card. Once you have created an account, you can get a West Card. Go to the Servicecenter to get your West Card. PAYMENT SYSTEM The university s printing and copying system uses cashless payment. Payments are handled through an online solution. Go to hv.se/student/ IT Services and support/ Printing and copying, to create your account for the payment system and for finding more information about printing, e.g. prices. For you to be able to print or copy from the start the university gives you a complimentary sum of 50 SEK on your account. PRINT, SCAN AND COPY You can print, scan and copy on the same machine. You scan the documents from the machine directly to the University West address or home directory. The printers are preset to black and white, two-sided A4 and single sided A3. Copying is preconfigured for single-sided original to two-sided copy. A feature overview is available at each printer. 6
