9 First Steps to Computing in UL Your Computer Account & Microsoft Outlook 365 UL have been created for you Log on to any Computer User Name: Password: ID Number Date of Birth e.g. 17Jan1989 (NB Note Upper case letter J for month) You will be prompted at first log on to set password

10 PC Account Passwords PC Account Password must be changed within 365 days or it will expire. 11 Secure SMS Password Reset Service Simply register your account and mobile phone number in advance with the ITD Password Registration Portal: The next time you forget your password all you have to do is visit the password reset page: Identify yourself. You will then receive an SMS code to your phone which can be used to reset your password without any other intervention or delay. ITD are confident that this improvement will be a success and will take all the pain out of getting a password reset. So now all you have to do is complete the once-off registration and resetting your password in future will be easy, simple and secure. All details provided through the portal will only be used for the sole task of resetting a password and will not be used or shared with any other persons or systems.

12 Accounts in UL Following the Graduation Ceremonies in August 2015 any student who has a graduated status will have their accounts discontinued 3 months following the date of graduation. The first implementation of this will occur in early November 2015 and will include any past students who have graduated or left the University in previous years. Moving on from this, the procedure will be repeated on a rolling basis with accounts being removed 3 months following a student graduating from the University or leaving for other reasons. Students on a leave of absence or other deferral type will not be affected. Students can get access to records, transcripts etc., once accounts are deleted 90 days after graduation date by ing saa@ul.ie. A PIN number will be reset that will give access

16 Student Laser Printing Black & White and Colour Printing facilities are available through the Payprint64 program Duplex Printing (back to back) is set by default on Black & White ITD Printers Single Sided Printing can be selected if required

18 Student Laser Printing To add a printer: Click on ITD Student Centre (UL Logo) that displays at log on or go to Start, Run and type \\payprint64 You must print one page to activate your print account in the payprint system. IMPORTANT: As print queues peak hugely running up to deadlines, it is imperative that you leave sufficient time to print your project/document.

$Your Computer Work Students can work on their files in the C:\WorkArea of PCs$ Always save new document and give it a title.

19 Your Computer Work Students can work on their files in the C:\WorkArea of PCs but there are NO backup / storage facilities on PCs. Always save new document and give it a title. All files are deleted during nightly updating of systems. Always save your work to USB Memory Keys and have backup copies of your files.

20 Your Computer Work Students are advised to SAVE their work frequently e.g. every 15 minutes. ITD does NOT backup personal student data. This is your responsibility.

21 Your Computer Work USB Key Repair Clinics are held during Autumn and Spring semesters Monday, Wednesday, Thursday Location: Library PC Area Time: 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

22 Laptops See user information in Student IT Information and Student ULPortal (web link on PC Desktop) (web page at log on) Student Villages use Wired Connection and currently Wireless is being made available in all villages. The Quigley Village has both Wired & Wireless connectivity For assistance with connectivity problems in villages, please contact your Village Manager.
