1 Wireless Printing from Mac OS to SU Florence Network Printers Students can now print from their laptops to select network printers. Printers can be added by connecting to a shared printer on the SUF print server. You can bring your Mac to the IT office (Villa Rossa Room 20) to have us run an install script or you can manually add it yourself using the following procedure: Step 1 Download HP drivers Make sure you are connected to WiFi via AirOrangeX. Download and install the latest HP drivers from Apple: (search for HP Printer drivers) Step 2 - Locate System Preferences Go to the Apple menu and click System Preferences Step 3 - Select Print & Scanners. You may need to manually enable the Print & Fax option. If you do not see it by default, click the Show All button to reveal Print & Fax. Once visible, select Print & Scanners. 1

2 Step 4 - Add the Printer Under the printers list click on the + icon to add a new printer. Step 5 - Configure the Printer On the toolbar at the top part of the window, click the Advanced (gear) icon. Can't See Advanced? If you do not see it, add it by holding down the Control key while clicking anywhere on the toolbar of that window (for example, on the "More Printers" icon), then choose Customize Toolbar from the menu that appears. Drag the Advanced (gear) icon to the toolbar and click Done. Change the Type option to Windows Printer via spoolss. Patience It could take a minute before you are able to choose anything from the Type menu 2

It should find HP LaserJet 600 M For the color printer, search for m553. It should find HP Color LaserJet M553 Click the driver name, then OK. Check all of your settings, then click Add. In the options window that pops up, click Duplex unit (for two-sided printing), then Done. NOTE: Also, be sure to set the default paper size to A4 (which is not the same as US Letter size) in the Printers & Scanners window. You can change print options like paper size, two-sided, etc. in your printing application if the selected printer supports it. 3

4 How to Print 1. Open the file you wish to print 2. Go to the File menu and choose Print. From the printer dropdown, select the printer that you want to use. Then, click the Print button in the file you wish to print. 3. The first time you use a network printer, you will be asked to log in as a "registered user". Type your SU NetID in ad\netid format -- for example, ad\jsmith48. Your password is your SU NetID password. Be sure to use your SU Login, not your Mac username. Without the ad\ in front of your NetID your authentication will fail AND if you go on to the next step with that mistake, you will have saved incorrect information into the Keychain. Refer to step 6 if you need help removing the login information. 4. Once you are sure that you have used the ad\login format, check the box to save your credentials in the Mac OS Keychain. Click OK. 5. Once you are ready, click Print. (Note: If the print job is very large, please be patient while it is being processed). 6. Didn't Print? If your document fails to print, you may need to open the print queue (from Print & Fax menu located in System Preferences), double-click on the document name in the queue and enter your credentials as directed in Step 3. If the window never pops up, you may have to remove the Keychain Access (stored password) for that printer; do a Spotlight Search for Keychain Access. Open it, click on the printer name and delete it by using the backspace/delete key. The next time you print, you will be prompted as in Step 3 above. Can't Add a printer? Make sure the device has a connection to a network (wired or wireless). Is the username and password correct? You can confirm this on the NetID self serve page. Are you using the ad\netid format when attempting to print? Revisit your configuration, make sure that everything is correct with the print server and the printer name. Student Print Accounts The printers above have a fee and prints are charged to your student print account*. All students are given a $20.00 credit (USD) at the beginning of each academic year in August covering the next 12 months for printing services using the public printers through the PaperCut print management system. With the web browser access to this system ( students are able to review the activity of their $20 quota or add funds through Cashnet. More information can be found at Paper size Grayscale single sided Grayscale double sided (each side) Color single sided Color double sided (each side) A4 (8.3 x11.7 ) *SU Florence fees effective Spring 2017 and may be subject to change To Send a Test Print In Printers & Scanners, highlight the desired printer and click Open Print Queue Click Printer in the menu bar and select Print Test Page. 4

5 Print account credit for poor quality prints If a printer creates poor quality printouts, bring the output to the IT Office in Villa Rossa room #20 and request a credit on your printing account. The poor quality printout must be surrendered to receive a credit. No refunds are provided from the University's Print Management System. Printouts should be retrieved from the printer immediately. No credit will be given if a printout is left on the printer and reported missing. Incorrectly formatted print jobs (layout, orientation, single v. double sided, copies etc...) will not receive a credit. Students who do not use all of their initial $20 credit will not receive a refund for any balance left on the account at the end of the school year. Students who add money to their printing quota will not receive a refund for any balances left on the account at the end of the school year All student printing quotas are reset to the $20 credit limit between the end of the second Summer Session and the beginning of the new academic year. For troubleshooting purposes, all credit requests must be submitted as soon as possible or before the IT Office closes on the same day your printing issue takes place.
