3 Simon Credentials While at Simon, you will have two separate credentials to access University resources. Your NetID is your account for securely accessing a variety of online services, such as the Human Resources Management System (HRMS), Blackboard, Library Resources, MyIdentity Self Service, and the University VPN. Your Active Directory (AD) is your domain account at the University, used to log in to Simon , Windows workstations, the UR_Connected wireless network, and other applications. 4 Services Overview STS can provide a number of services and software packages for you. Microsoft Office 2016 Antivirus Class required software Mac Users: Please note that we require the use of Parallels (requires a purchase) Once you have purchased Parallels desktop, STS can provide the required Microsoft Windows install required. Software installs, configurations, & troubleshooting during lab hours: STS Help Desk - Schlegel 404A Monday - Friday: 7:00 am 11:00 pm Saturday Sunday: 9:00 am 5:00 pm (Breaks & Summer may differ) Please note: self-serve options for software downloads may be available at or on your admitted student portal. 4

5 Wireless Access During your time at Simon, it will benefit you to use the UR_Connected wireless network. This is the fastest and most secure network and requires only a single login with you Active Directory username and password. Connect to the UR_Connected network using your Active Directory (AD) credentials: Username: firstname.lastname Password: {Your Active Directory Password} UR_RC_InternalSecure requires a NetID and password to log in. This network also requires a secure passphrase and will require that you enter your credentials into your web browser each time that you access the network. UR_RC_Guest is an open wireless network with no login required. This network is unsecure/slower and should only be used by visitors or individuals not affiliated with the University. This network will not provide you with connectivity to University resources (printers, etc.). For more information, please visit 5

6 Student Printing There are seven public printers available for your use at Simon. There is currently no charge for printing but please print responsibly! There are 3 printers in the computer lab in Schlegel 404. These printers are accessible during Collaboration Lab (Schlegel 404) hours. They are also installed for use on each public computer in the Collaboration Lab. There are 4 satellite printers around the buildings (Gleason & Schlegel Hall) Please stop in to the computer lab in Schlegel 404A to have your printers configured. These downloads are also available for self-service at and on your admitted student portal. 6

7 Simon Simon requires your UR Active Directory (AD) credentials: Username: firstname.lastname Password: {Your Active Directory Password} You can access your Simon on the web by visiting: 7

8 Outlook Configuration To configure your Simon into Outlook, please follow the steps below: Step 1 Click on Start > Control Panel. At the top right of the window, change the View By dropdown to Large (or Small) icons. Step 2 Click on the Mail (32-bit) option. Step 3 A new window will open. Click on Show Profiles. 8

9 Step 4 Click Add. Step 5 Type UR or Simon in the Profile Name field, then click OK. 9

10 Step 6 Configure your credentials: Enter your name (FirstName, LastName) Enter your primary address (e.g., first.last@rochester.edu, username@xx.rochester.edu) Enter your password associated with your username in the Password and Retype Password fields. Then click Next. Step 7 It will now begin to search for your account. This process may take several minutes (possibly, onward of ten minutes). 10

11 Step 8 A Windows Security window will appear. Click Use another account. Step 9 Enter your username@ur.rocheser.edu, then enter your password. Check the box next to Remember my credentials, then click OK. 11

12 Step 10 You may see an Auto discover window. If you do, check the box next to Don t ask me about this website again, then click Allow. Step 11 Outlook will continue searching for your account. This may take several minutes to complete. Once it is finished, you will see a Congratulations window, stating, Your account is successfully configured. Click Finish. 13 Blackboard (Learning Management System) Blackboard is a virtual hub for student services that provides access to online course materials, grades, organizations, accounts, and many other academic and campus services. You can log in to Blackboard using your NetID and password. Access to: Your Individual Course Pages & Your Organizations 13

14 My Simon My Simon is the Simon School s student portal; a way to find all of the information needed to navigate through student programs, Simon Business School, and the University of Rochester. Some of the information that can be found on My Simon: Course information Career management Clubs and student organizations River Campus information Simon s Google Calendar Services around UofR Integrated social media buttons for Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and Instagram Up-to-date announcements for university news, events, academic deadlines, trips, job postings, and much more. 14

15 Library Resources The library has a multitude of online resources, accessible through the library.rochester.edu link and on Blackboard on the Library Resources in the left toolbar on each course page. Once on the library page, then you can log in through the My Accounts tab on the top toolbar. Once at the login page, use your NetID credentials to log in to the Voyager system. 15

16 University VPN A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is used to access restricted University resources from off campus through a secured Internet connection. Faculty, staff, and students with a current, active relationship with the University can use VPN. University resources that do not require VPN to access remotely include , SharePoint, and most library resources. To install and configure the University VPN: 1. Go to 2. Click Install on (Appropriate OS) 3. Enroll in Due two-factor authentication 4. Go to step Input your NETID Credentials 6. Click Download client, Click Run, and then click Allow if asked to 7. In the Start menu, click All Programs > Cisco > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client 8. Type in vpn.rochester.edu then click Connect For additional information please visit 16

17 Best Practices Keep all of your files in one directory (e.g., My Documents) Backup often to an external location (preferably the cloud) Keep up with updates: Antivirus, Anti-Spyware, and Operating System updates Covet your configuration (Be very very picky!) 18 Frequently Asked Questions -Where do I get a version of Parallels so that I can run Windows on my Mac? Parallels can be purchased from the UR Tech Store in Rush Rhees Library. We can assist with the installation here at the Simon Help Desk. -What software is available on the Collaboration Lab computers? We offer a variety of software on the desktop computers in the lab. There are five terminals for using Bloomberg, two machines have S&P Capital IQ, there are three Mac desktops and multiple computers with the Frontline Analytical Solver platform. Overall, there are15 desktops available for student use in the lab, as well as three printers and a scanner. -Does the Simon School Computing Center work on foreign computers? The Simon School Information Technology Department prefers that all students use an English language operating system. Computing Lab Employees may refuse service to any student without an English language Operating System if they are unable to assist. The same applies to applications and programs. -Does the Simon School Computing Center lend out laptops? The Computing Lab does not lend out laptops. There are Lab Computers located in the Computing Lab for student use and can be used while your laptop is being repaired. -Can the Simon School Computing Center retrieve my data for me? The Computing Lab does not retrieve data from a student s laptop. The Simon School Information Technology Department highly encourages students to back-up their data every day/use cloud storage. We cannot stress this enough and please make sure to back-up to an EXTERNAL media source. 18
