2 Introduction The following booklet is intended as an instructional set- up of your ipad. If you have trouble with any component of this set- up, please see the IT staff in the ICT Hub. Please use the guide below as a checklist, and tick off all the events when you are done. 3 Turning on the ipad for the first time The On/Off button is located on the top of the ipad- hold down for a few seconds to turn on and off. Volume control is on the right hand side of the device. You can put the device to sleep by shutting the cover. Remember, click on the home button below the screen at any time to get to this home page and to leave an app on your ipad. 3

4 Setting up Apple ID using the My Apple ID Web Link An Apple ID, or itunes Account, is a username you can use for everything you do with Apple; shop the itunes Store, purchase apps and music, log in to FaceTime or icloud, buy from the Apple Online Store, access Apple.com support, and more. As you are predominantly using your ipad for school / educational means, you may want to make a new Apple ID that is based on your school and username. E.g., Apple ID: mholland@stpats.vic.edu.au Password: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx You may already have a personal Apple ID that you will want to use. (Because you may have already purchased personal Apps or media using this ID) Step 1 You can create an Apple ID by clicking on this link: bin/webobjects/myappleid.woa/wa/createappleid Step 2: Fill in your name. Step 3: Choose and Apple ID and password. Note what is required for your password in the popup below. 4

5 Step 4: Continue to fill in the remainder of the application. A sample is below. Write this down somewhere and store it somewhere safe. Step 5: Add in the Rescue Address. This is used if you want to reset your Apple ID password and you cannot remember your security questions answers. Step 6: Fill in an address. 5

6 Step 6: Preferred Language and whether you want to receive communications from Apple. Step 7. Fill in characters and click Create Apple ID. 6

7 Step 8: Verifying your Apple ID. Open and check your account you linked to this Apple ID. Click on the link Verify Now to continue the process. Step 9: Sign in to your Apple ID account to complete the process. You can use this Apple ID to log in to FaceTime or icloud, buy from the Apple Online Store or access Apple.com support. 7

8 Configuring school You will need access to the school so that you can receive information quickly. Step 1. Open the ipad and click on Settings Step 2. On the left hand side, select Mail, Contacts, Calendars Step 3. Click on Add account Step 4. Click on Microsoft Exchange Step 5. Enter the following fields: yourusename@stpats.vic.edu.au Password: ( your password) Description: St Pats Click Next 8

9 Step 6. Enter the following fields Server: mail.stpats.vic.edu.au Domain: stpats.vic.edu.au Username: (your username) Use SSL Off Step 7: Click on Advanced Settings Step 8: Turn Use SSL/S/MIME Off OFF 9

10 Step 7. Turn On different features that you would like to sync on your ipad (select Mail, Contact, and/or Calendars) Step 8. Press Done. is now set up. Step 9. Click on the Mail icon to access your 10

11 Changing the ipad name One of the requirements of using the ipad is that you have named it appropriately. For efficient management of the ipads on our network we require that you name your ipad with your username at St Patrick s College. I.e., ipad_username, E.g., ipad_mholland Step 1. Open your ipad and click on Settings Step 2. On the left hand side, click on General Step 3. On the right hand side click on About Step 4. On the right hand side click on Name Step 5. Enter ipad_username as your ipad name. 11

12 Setting up icloud and Turning on Find my ipad This needs to be enabled as it is school property. But it will also help you find your ipad if you are not sure where you have left it. Step 1. Open your ipad and click on Settings Step 2. On the left hand side, click on icloud Step 3. Enter your Apple ID and Password 12

13 Step 4: Click OK to allow icloud to locate your ipad Step 4. Make sure Find my ipad is turned on 13

14 Setting up WiFi at Home Step 1 Open your ipad and click on Settings Step 2: Select Wi- Fi on the left hand side menu. Turn on Wi- Fi Step 3: Select your home network. Step 4: Enter the required password, and then tap Join. Step 5: A tick will appear next to your home network when it is connected; 14

15 Downloading a file from Simon to your ipad Step 1: On your ipad login to Simon and browse to the location of the file and click on the file you want to download. Step 2: Click on the Download Document button. Step 3: The File will download onto your ipad and appear on your screen. Tap the screen on the top right hand side of the document and select Open in. 15

16 Step 4:Click on the Open in ibooks icon. Step 5: It will now appear in your ibooks library. Step 6: You will be able to find it in the PDF category of your ibooks Library 16
