2 1. Description Mohive elps is a major update to the CrossKnowledge Learning Suite authoring solution aimed at companies who want to produce customised learning objects quickly and simply for ipad. The Mohive platform is a solution which allows authors to quickly create interactive, harmonious richmedia learning objects that are powerful training tools without having to be experts in instructional design. In keeping with this approach, authors can now create modules for ipad and computers without having to worry about which format the content will be viewed on when they are designing it. The tool s new authoring features guide authors so that they can design modules that take full advantage of the touchscreen technology of tablets. You will thus be able to offer your learners a new, engaging and motivating experience. The unique look and feel of Mohive 12.2 mobile courses is based on best practice for touchscreen navigation in order to optimise the learning experience. When using Mohive within CrossKnowledge Learning Suite, it just takes a single click to publish custom-made SCORM courses for your learners that they can consult using either a computer or a tablet. You don t need to concern yourselves with the technical requirements of the different platforms on which your training paths are consulted. With this latest release of its Mohive platform, CrossKnowledge can now offer a complete process for authoring and deploying custom-made learning objects for mobile devices. 2. 3 Author and export modules for ipads With Mohive 12.2, you no longer need to design activities specifically for mobile devices and then ensure that they are also compatible with computers. Authors now use the same authoring environment to design their courses for computers and tablets. The modules will automatically be in the right format for the platform on which they will be viewed. CrossKnowledge has developed 8 templates which are ideally suited to learning on a tablet (Flexi, IExplore Flexi, Video, Classic MC, Drag2Place, IExplore, More About, What if). Once the module has ben authored with its 8 templates and then exported (in SCORM or Stand-alone format) or opened using the public Web link, learners consulting the course from an ipad will be able to browse a module that has been optimised for learning using a touchscreeen. If learners consult the same course from their computer, they will browse the laptop module with the skin selected by the author. A choice of mobile-compatible templates in Mohive 12.2 means that a wide range of courses can be designed offering learners rich and attractive learning activities. Also, because the Flexi templates (Flexi and IExplore Flexi) are compatible with mobile devices, experienced authors can design highly customisable and effective training modules for touchscreens.

4 Manage compatibility with mobile devices from the Mohive platform Not all media formats and not all templates can be used to design a course for tablets. For example, Flash media files (.swf animations or Flash widgets) cannot be viewed on ipads. To simplify the process of designing courses for mobile devices, the tool automatically filters incompatible templates and media files when the module is being authored. Authors can use a new platform option on the page for managing new modules to select whether the module is to be consulted on a computer or on a tablet as well. At any time, authors can edit their selection in the module settings within the authoring environment. If authors select the tablet option, they can only use templates which are compatible with them. Similarly, incompatible media files (.swf animations and Flash widgets) cannot be selected from the media library and are greyed out.

5 Also, if they open a learning object that was initially intended to be viewed on a computer and then check the tablet option, all the incompatible elements are highlighted and the compatible media files are automatically converted so that authors can edit the module to ensure optimum rendering on tablets. As well as templates and media files, some options within the authoring environment are not available for authoring learning objects for mobile devices and are also highlighted to alert authors. These options are: Modifying the layout within the authoring environment for the screen, and Some elements of the screen authoring environment for mobile templates (see section 3 Mobile templates of this document) Manage background pattern of mobile exercises The design of mobile courses (logo, brand attributes, etc) can be customised in the background pattern for the exercise. The window for managing the properties of exercises has been modified so that the background pattern can be changed for courses for mobile devices. Authors can now select a specific background pattern for the mobile learning object, in portrait or landscape format. If no mobile background pattern is selected, the default pattern used is the one for the laptop course.

6 New preview page for modules being authored If the tablet option has been activated in the properties for the module, when authoring the screens authors can preview the tablet and laptop versions of their module by clicking on the preview button in the screen authoring environment. They can then select a laptop preview or landscape or portrait tablet previews. This allows them to keep control of the final appearance of the course at all times from their computer. Authors can also use the public Web link from stage 4 of the integrated workflow to view the modifications made to the learning object directly via the browser on their tablet. NB: in order to be able to preview the mobile modules being authored on a computer, the browser used must be a recent version of Google Chrome (18+) or Safari. Otherwise, authors will be alerted that they need to preview the module directly on an ipad.

7 Environment for designing Flexi and IExplore Flexi templates adapted for mobile devices When the tablet option is activated in the properties for the module, the environments for designing Flexi and IExplore Flexi templates are modified so that the screen layout can be adjusted according to the orientation of the tablet: authors can move between a laptop view and a tablet view. Authors can also switch between a portrait and landscape orientation. By default, Mohive automatically arranges the elements according to the orientation of the tablet using a special algorithm that does not change the size of the elements (text and media). However, authors can at any time change this automatic arrangement and save these changes. Import videos into Flexi, IExplore Flexi and IExplore templates Using Mohive 12.2, authors can use video media files in the flexible Mohive templates (Flexi and IExplore Flexi). By clicking on Add video in the environment for authoring screens with these two templates, authors can add a video as part of the animations. On the IExplore Flexi template, the events that can be configured for a video element are Appeared and Stopped : If an author configures the Appeared event on the video element, the associated action will be initiated when the video appears. If an author configures the Stopped event on the video element, the associated action will be initiated at the end of the video. On click events are not available for video elements.

8 It is now also possible to add a video as feedback on an IExplore template: Import videos in MP4 format into the media library Using Mohive 12.2, videos in MP4 format can be uploaded into the media library.

9 Automatic transitions available for IExplore Flexi and IExplore templates for laptops* Using Mohive 12.2, automatic transitions can be set in the properties of laptop exercises authored with the templates IExplore Flexi and IExplore templates. For the IExplore Flexi template, automatic transitions to the next activity can be made after all the learner actions set by the author have been carried out and all the events have been completed. If there is a video included in the list of elements for the exercise, it must be played in full for the corresponding action to be considered complete. If exploring a text or an image is the last action for learners to carry out, the transition to the next activity will take place automatically after a few seconds. For the IExplore template, the approach is the same: learners need to click on all the hotspots in the exercise and have consulted all of the feedback for the automatic transition to the next activity to take place. If a video element has been configured by the author as feedback when exploring a hotspot, it must be played in full for the corresponding action to be considered complete. If exploring a text or an image is the last action for learners to carry out, the transition to the next activity will take place automatically after a few seconds. * Option not available on ipad tablet with Mohive 12.2

10 3. Mobile templates Navigating in courses for mobile devices Learners navigate between the screens of the modules naturally using the ipad swipe gesture. Learners can navigate in landscape/portrait mode. All mobile learning objects begin with an automatically generated page with the title of the module and an explanation of how to navigate by swiping. Flexi mobile template The Flexi template is compatible with tablets: authors can use Mohive 12.2 to design image, audio, video and text animations for mobile screens and set the order in which they appear on the screen

Appear and disappear effects for the elements integrated into the Flexi screen available to authors on ipad are: Appear Fade Fly In (top, left, right, bottom) Blinds, zoom and wipe effects have not been implemented for mobile content in Mohive 12.2 and will be replaced by a fade effect. Learners can move on to the next activity at any time by swiping. IExplore Flexi mobile template The IExplore Flexi template is also compatible with tablets: using Mohive 12.2 authors can design screens with images, audio, video and text to involve the learner in the animated learning object as it plays on the screen.

12 All the actions and all the appear and disappear effects for the elements integrated into the IExplore Flexi authoring environment have been implemented and are available to authors so that they have a great degree of freedom when designing screens. The same appear and disappear effects as in the Flexi model have been implemented.

13 More About mobile template The More About template is compatible with mobile devices and allows authors to present different situations or people. For example, learners can go into subjects in more depth, listen to several different points of view from different contexts or find out about what happens in different departments. They can move on to the next activity at any time by swiping.

14 Video mobile template The video template is compatible with mobile devices. With the mobile version of the template, the video can be started in full-screen mode. When learners click on the screen, the playback controls appear whilst the video continues to play. At the end of the video, the course automatically moves on to the next activity. NB: Video subtitles (across all mobile templates) are not available in this first release of Mohive mobile. The feature will be included in a future release. In this template, the positioning options for the video which are selected in the screen authoring environment will have no effect on the mobile course.

15 Classic MC mobile template The Classic MC template is compatible with mobile devices and allows authors to test the knowledge of learners taking the course. Several possible answers are displayed to a question. Learners click on what they think are the right answers and get feedback as to whether they are right or wrong. Learners can only move on to the next activity once they have found the right answer. In this template, the options Number of attempts and Lock when finished have not yet been implemented in Mohive 12.2.

16 What if mobile template The What If template is compatible with mobile devices: it allows authors to present different scenarios in response to a question. The answers are shown as videos or images, sometimes with an additional feedback text at the end of the video or on top of the image. The video and image feedback appears in full screen. Learners can only move on to the next activity once they have found the right answer. In this template, the option Show in pop-up, available for a laptop course, will have no effect on the tablet screen.

17 Drag2place mobile template The Drag2place template is compatible with mobile devices: it allows text elements to be dragged onto a full-screen image area. In this template, the option to configure the way hotspots appear (eg mouse over) will have no effect on hotspots in the mobile version, which are always displayed.

18 IExplore mobile template The IExplore template is compatible with mobile devices: it allows learners to discover information interactively. When learners click on a hotspot, the content appears in full-screen mode.
