3 1. Introduction The Intrax Site Classifcation application allows users to search for Intrax s geotechnical site information around a given search location. This guide will outline how to use the application. 2. Instructions 2.1 Landing Page When loading the site, the following page will appear: If this is your first time accessing GIS, please read the disclaimer and select OK to continue. 4 2.2 Home Page Once the disclaimer dialog box has disappeared, the following screen will appear. Screen Item Zoom buttons My location button Basemap toggle Address search Manual location search Search results table Help & Site links Scalebar Description Used to zoom in and out on the map. It is also possible to use a mouse scroll wheel or hold the Shift key down and draw a bounding box. Used to center the map at your devices resolved location. Note that the resolved location may be different to the device s actual location. Used to switch the basemap between topological and satellite views. The user may enter an Australian address in this dialog to commence a site search. As the user types, suggestions will be made by the dialog that match the user input. The user may start the search by either hitting return or clicking on the magnifying glass button. When clicked the user can manually select a location on the map to start the site search from. The user needs to first click on the button then click on the map to start the search. When the site search is complete any sites that were found will be listed here. Clicking on a results table entry will cause the map to zoom and center on the selected site s location These hyperlinks open new browser windows to show either the Help page or Intrax pages respectively. 5 3. Searching for Sites Search for Intrax geotechnical sites can be done by either, using the search tool bar or by clicking directly on the map. 3.1 Address Search Enter an address into the search dialog box. Select the correct address from the list. Author: Lisa Lloyd Page 5 of 11

6 The map will zoom to an appropriate scale and display any sites that were found. The results table will list the sites found in order of proximity to the search location (top to bottom): Note that a latitude and longitude may also be entered into the search dialog to start a search. The order of entry must be longitude, latitude (ie x, y). 3.2 Map Location Search Zoom and pan the map to the location that is to be nominated for a site search. 7 3.3 When No Results Are Found Then click the map to start the site search at the nominated location: The map will zoom to an appropriate scale and display any sites that were found. 8 If no results are found in the initial search then the application will ask if the search area can be expanded: If no results are found in the expanded area then a message will appear to that effect: Author: Lisa Lloyd Page 8 of 11

9 4. Working with Results When a search finds geotechnical sites they are displayed on the map and in the results table (in order of proximity to the search location). It is possible to interact with the search results in two ways: Clicking on a results table entry, which causes the map to centre on the location of the selected site, highlight it and show a pop up containing site information. Clicking on a site on the map, which causes the site to be highlighted and shows a pop up containing site information. Author: Lisa Lloyd Page 9 of 11

10 5. Showing the Legend A map legend is used to describe the symbology of features on the map. To show a legend describing site symbology click on the legend button, which appears under the zoom and My Location buttons in the top left hand corner of the map area. The legend button will only appear if results have been found. To hide the legend, click the legend button again. Click Here 6. Changing the Basemap The map has a basemap, which underlies the site data and provides context. It is possible to change the basemap between topological and satellite views by clicking the basemap toggle button in the top right hand corner of the map area: Author: Lisa Lloyd Page 10 of 11

Finding the Device s Current Location It is possible to centre the map on the device s current location by clicking on the My Location button located under the zoom buttons on the top left hand side of the map area: A marker will indicate the position of the device in the map area. Note that this location is based on what the device has been able to resolve. There may be a difference between the device s actual location and the resolved location. Author: Lisa Lloyd Page 11 of 11
