1 Frequently Asked Questions: Installing and Registering Sage Pastel

2 Computer does not read the disk 1. Sage Pastel software is distributed on a DVD. Confirm that the computer has a DVD ROM in it. If there is a DVD ROM in the computer, try the disk in an alternative computer. If the alternative computer reads the disk, copy the disk to a memory stick and run the installation from the memory stick. Registration window does not open after clicking on Ctrl+Shift+T 1. If the registration assistant window does not open, remove the tick next to Ctrl+Shift+T and put the tick back. Try the Ctrl+Shift+T command again and the window will open. The registration code does not correspond to the version of Pervasive currently installed 1. This is an information window. The default version of Pervasive that is installed is Version 9.6. The educational serial number is valid for Pervasive version 10 and Pervasive version 9.6. Click on the OK button to continue.

3 I get a message that the serial number entered is incorrect 1. Educational serial numbers are only valid for the year that the manual was printed in. If the manual is from a previous year, the educational code will not be active. Contact your training institution for a new educational serial number. 2. Educational serial numbers are product and version specific. Confirm that the correct version of the software has been installed and confirm that the correct product has been installed. Error code An error code 20 indicates that the Pervasive engine has not started or the temporary Pervasive license has expired on the computer. 2. Click on the Windows Start button and select All Programs Pervasive Pervasive.SQL Engines Start Engine. 3. Open Sage Pastel. If the error persists, click on the Windows Start button and select Programs Pervasive Pervasive.SQL Other Utilities License Administrator.

4 4. If the temporary code has expired, contact the Sage Pastel training departmer for assistance. Error code When restoring a company and you receive the Error code 503 when the name of the backup and the name of the company is not the same. 2. If you have selected the incorrect location to restore the backup from, you will receive the Error code 503. Confirm that the location of the backup is correct. 3. If there is no backup to restore from, the error will also display. Copy the backup to the Pastel directory and try to restore again.

5 There are no companies in the Open Company screen 1. Click on the Manage or Add Company button on the Open a Company screen. 2. On the Company Database screen, click on the Add Company button.

6 3. Confirm that you have selected the correct Sage Pastel directory and select the company to add. Click on the OK button. 4. Click on the Close button and you will be returned to the Open a Company screen. Select the company and click on the Open button. Can t add a company through Add Company option 1. When you select the company to add, the OK button remains greyed out. This could indicate that the company was created in an older version of Sage Pastel. If this is the case, you will need to first convert the company to the version of Sage Pastel loaded on your computer and then try to add the company again. The company was created on a higher build 1. If you restore a company and try to open the company but receive a message that the company was created in a higher build, you need to upgrade your Sage Pastel to the latest build. Download the latest build from the ATC Zone. Run the build update and try to open the company again. Windows Installer was interrupted and the system has not been modified 1. While installing Sage Pastel, you receive a message that the Windows Installer was interrupted and the system has not been modified. 2. It is recommended that you download the latest Windows Installer from the Microsoft website. 3. Once the latest Windows Installer is installed, try to run the installation again. 4. If you still receive the message, first install Pervasive Work group for Windows and then install Sage Pastel.

7 The registration type options are greyed out 1. If an incorrect registration has been done, and the Registration Type options are greyed out and you are unable to change the options, you will need to remove the registration folder and run a repair. 2. Go to C:\Pastel12\Custom and right click on the Registration folder. Select the Delete option from the menu. 3. Insert the installation disk and start the installation of the software.

8 4. On the Program Maintenance screen, select the Repair option and continue with the installation. 5. This will replace the Registration folder. 6. Once the repair is complete, open Sage Pastel and select Help Register Your Package from the main menu. 7. The registration type screen options will be available for selection. Windows decimal error 1. You open Sage Pastel and receive the following error: 2. Open the Control Panel by clicking on the Windows Start button and select the Control Panel option. 3. Click on the Region and Language option.

9 4. Change the Format to English (United States) 5. Click on the Additional settings button and change the Currency symbol to R for rand. 6. Click on the Apply button and then the OK button. 7. On the Formats screen, click on Apply and OK button to save the changes and then close the Regional and Language screen. 8. Open Sage Pastel again.

10 Company has been removed through the operating system. 1. After opening Sage Pastel, you receive the message that the operating system has removed the company. Click on Help Register Your Package from the main menu. 2. Click on the Next button. 3. On the Registration Type screen, the Workstation Registration option will be selected. 4. You need to delete the registration folder and run a repair. 5. Go to C:\Pastel12\Custom and right click on the Registration folder. Select the Delete option from the menu. 6. Insert the installation disk and start the installation of the software.

11 7. On the Program Maintenance screen, select the Repair option and continue with the installation. 8. This will replace the Registration folder. 9. Once the repair is complete, open Sage Pastel and select Help Register Your Package from the main menu. 10. The registration type screen options will be available for selection. 11. Select the Single User/Server Registration option and continue to register Sage Pastel. 12. Once Sage Pastel is registered, open Sage Pastel. 13. Select File Open from the main menu and click on the Manage or Add Company button on the Open a Company screen.

12 14. On the Company Database screen, click on the Add Company button. 15. Confirm that you have selected the correct Pastel directory and select the company to add. Click on the OK button. 16. Click on the Close button and you will be returned to the Open a Company screen. The companies will display in the Open a Company screen.
