3 What s New? Start Screens Microsoft Office 2013 was designed with apps in mind. Each program or app as they are referred to is coded with a colored start screen. Blue is the start color code for Word, green for Excel, orange for PowerPoint and green for Publisher. When creating a new document, you can select a template, or search for online templates. Featured templates and Built-In templates are an option. The Featured templates refresh as the seasons change so you get the latest and cleanest looking designs. The Built-In are the templates you were familiar with in older versions of Publisher. SkyDrive Integration The cloud is easy to access now with the integration of the SkyDrive and SharePoint. You have the option to save locally or to your SkyDrive. When files are saved to the SkyDrive they can be accesses from anywhere. Digital Media Center - Mississippi State University Libraries 3
4 What s New? Users of Publisher saw a huge change in the 2010 version, the good news for 2013 users is there are no drastic changes. The interface looks a little different, but all the features introduced in the 2010 version are still there and look sharper and cleaner. The Backstage To access the Backstage area click the File Tab found on the Ribbon. The Backstage gives the user many options. Info New Open Save Save as Print Share Export Close Account Options Info Edit Business Information Customized information can be created for individual users or for an organization. This feature allows easy access to information that can be filled in to publications such as a business card, envelopes, or flyers. Run Design Checker Potential problems can be detected easily with this feature. Using the Run Design Checker identifies potential problems and provides optional fixes. IMPORTANT Be sure to run the Design Checker before you publish a publication on a desktop printer, send it in an , publish a publication to a desktop printer, pack it for commercial printing, publish it onto the Web or convert one type of publication to another. Manage Embedded Fonts Using this feature ensures that a font is always available if you move the publication to a new computer or take it to a commercial printer. 4 Digital Media Center - Mississippi State University Libraries
5 New Users use New to create the type of publication needed. There are two options under New Featured Built-In All publications begin with a template, even it s a blank template. You can customize the size of your publication by using more blank page sizes or use one of the Featured or Built-In templates Open You can open Recent Publications, files on your computer or files you save in the cloud, know as your SkyDrive. 6 Save As Allows saving files to your computer or to the cloud, known as the SkyDrive Share Create an with the current publication attached directly in to the . 6 Digital Media Center - Mississippi State University Libraries
7 Export This option allows saving files as PDFs or XPSs documents. Publishing directly to the web is made easy with the Publish HTML feature. Pack and Go makes saving photos and packaging for commercial printing much easier. Account Microsoft Office Accounts can be created allowing users to access their SkyDrive. In the Account you can use the connected services, such as Twitter, and Facebook. You have the option to Add Services, such as LinkedIn and SkyDrive. Office Updates Option provides available updates. 8 The Ribbon HOME The Home tab has the commands you may use daily. INSERT The Insert tab has the things you would insert into a document, such as pictures, shapes, tables PAGE DESIGN The Page Design tab gives you the opportunity to change your template, color scheme, margins, orientation or page size. Also you will find guides that will help in the layout of your publication. MAILINGS The Mailings tab helps you perform a mail merge in your publication. You will fine a wizard on the mail merge tab that will walk you through the steps of performing a mail merge. 8 Digital Media Center - Mississippi State University Libraries
9 REVIEW The Review tab helps proofing with the use of spell checking or using the thesaurus. If you need to convert your publication to another language you will also be able to do that with the language button. View The View tab allows you see the rulers, guides and boundaries of your publication. You can also choose to work on the Master Page, view a single page layout or a two-page spread. 10 Inserting Online Pictures Digital Media Center Workshops In previous versions of Publisher you had the option to insert images from your computer or from clip art. Publisher 2013 has added a feature on the Insert Tab that allows users to use the Online Pictures button to insert images from the Office Clip Art Gallery or to insert images by doing a Bing Search. Make sure you are compliant with all copyright guidelines when using images from Bing. Images that are available on the web may still be protected by copyright. 1. Go to the Insert Tab 2. Click the Online Pictures button 3. Use the Search Clip Art Box to type in the type of clip art you are look for. With this search you will get clip art and photographs. 4. You also can use the Bing Image Search box to search for photographs. Facebook, Flickr and more. If you have signed up for a Microsoft office account you can use that account to insert photos, and videos from Facebook, Flickr and other sites. 1. From the Insert Pictures tab look at the bottom of the options and click the link that reads Sign in with your Microsoft account to insert photos and videos from Facebook, Flickr and other sites. 2. At the Add a service box type in the account information associated with your Microsoft Office Account. 4. 11 5. Click the Connect button 6. Use your Facebook Account information to complete the connection to between Facebook and Publisher 7. Click the Log In button. 8. Your Public Profile will be accessed Click Ok 9. Facebook is now an option under Insert Pictures. Click the Facebook option 10. Choose from the images in your Facebook Gallery to insert into your Publisher document. 11. Click the Insert button Digital Media Center - Mississippi State University Libraries 11
12 Using Templates For this example we will use a Flyer template. 1. Go to the File 2. Select New 3. Choose Built-In 4. Scroll down and select the Flyers Folder 5. Choose the type of layout you desire for you flyer (bounce is the template we will use for this example) If you do not prefer the given color scheme you can customize your color scheme. Choose Customize Color Scheme, browse the available colors and choose one. You will see all the colors change on the available templates.
