3 Please Note: This service pack is for use with version 2018r1 of SelectPay only, and should not be applied to any previous versions. Please take a backup of each of your databases before you install this service pack, and ensure that all users have logged out of SelectPay. You will need to apply this to every installation of SelectPay and upgrade your databases when it is complete. Installing the Service Pack 1. You can download the service pack from the Support > Payroll area of our website. When you click on the link to download you may be prompted to Run or Save the file. You can select to Run the file, which will launch the installation wizard. Else you can select Save As, then open the folder you have downloaded it to and double-click on the SelectPay_2018r1_Service_Pack_1.exe file to launch the installation wizard. 2. The Service Pack Installation Wizard will appear. Click Install to start the installation. 3. If you have not closed SelectPay you will be prompted to close it. Once it has been closed click on Install to continue. 3

4 4. The Installer will identify which components of SelectPay are installed on the machine it is running on and will update these as appropriate. 5. Once the installation is successful, click Exit to close the wizard. 6. If the installation fails for any reason, an error message will be displayed. Please take a screenshot, or note of the error, and contact Support. Important Notice: It is important to run the Service Pack on every machine on which SelectPay is installed. If you have split your installation of SelectPay across servers/machines you will need to run this update on those servers/machines in order to update each part of the original installation separately. Please ensure that all of the applications are updated on the relevant machines / servers before logging into SelectPay. Now that the installation is complete, you will need to upgrade your SelectPay databases in order to ensure that all of the updates are applied to the data and that they will work in the new version. 4

5 Upgrading the Databases Once you have installed the service pack you will need to upgrade each database to ensure the changes take full effect. Updating the Integration files (HR Integration Only) If your SelectPay software is not integrated with SelectHR, please skip to step 15. If you are integrated with SelectHR you will need to switch off the integration before upgrading your SelectPay databases. To do this, firstly you need to open the SelectHR Administrator from the Start menu. 7. Start >> All Programs >> Access Applications >> SelectHR v(current version) >> SelectHR Service Administrator. 8. Click the Stop button on both the Job and Mail Schedule and Payroll Schedule tabs to stop the services. 9. Once you ve done this the colour icons in the service status will turn red. Please note that you will need to turn the services back on once the upgrade is complete. 5

6 You will also need to check that the integration connections are up to date. These steps will help to ensure you are using the most recent version of the integration files when upgrading SelectPay. Please check with your IT department or contact Support if you are unsure. 10. Go to the SelectPay Service installation folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\access Applications\SelectPay v2018r1\selectpay Service\Service 11. Find the file named AccessSelect.PayrollInterface.dll and copy it. 12. Now browse to your HR Service installation files: C:\Program Files (x86)\access Applications\SelectHR v[your Version]\Service\ 13. Find the file named AccessSelect.PayrollInterface.dll and rename this to read.dllold at the end. This is to ensure you have a copy of the old file should you need it. 14. Paste the file you copied from the SelectPay Service folder into the HR service folder. 15. This will ensure that both versions of the file are the latest version. If you were to right-click on this file and view Properties >> Details, you would see that the version number relates to version You are now ready to upgrade each of your SelectPay Databases. 6

7 Upgrading the Databases Please ensure that all of your users are logged out of the database and that you have a backup. 16. Open the SelectPay Administrator from the Start menu and log in. 17. Click on the Database tab, then Databases to see the database list. Select your database if you have multiple databases start from the first one in the list. Click on the Upgrade Database icon. Note: The first digits of the version number should already be and should not relate to any previous versions. 18. Click Next in the wizard to upgrade the selected database 7

8 19. Once complete, click Finish to close the wizard. The database is now upgraded. 20. Note that the version number has been updated in the database list, this should display the first three numbers as You will then need to reassign the Unlock Key to the database before you try to log in. To do this, highlight the database in the list and click on the Unlock icon. Select Assign to Database (if this option is unavailable you may have to select Unassign from Database first and then click on Unlock again to select Assign to Database ). 22. Select the relevant unlock from the list by double clicking on it. 23. The unlock name should now appear against that database in the database list. 8

9 24. If you have more than one database, repeat this process until all databases have been successfully upgraded and the unlock key reassigned. 25. You have now completed your upgrade. To check the version of your database, please ensure that the first numbers of the Version number in the Administrator database list are To check the version of your SelectPay application, the login screen should show the version number, else log into SelectPay and check the About Access SelectPay window. These should show Version 2018r1.1. Note: Now that you have installed the service pack and upgraded all of your databases to the latest version, remember that if you need to restore to a backup which was taken BEFORE the upgrade, you will need to follow this process (from step 15) in order to upgrade the restored database once again to version 2018r1.1. If you are integrated with SelectHR, please also remember to switch the integration back on, by following the steps below. 9

10 Restarting the Integration Service (HR Integration Only) If your SelectPay software is not integrated with SelectHR, the following steps do not apply. If you are integrated with SelectHR you will need to switch the integration back on before continuing. To do this, open the SelectHR Administrator from the Start menu. 1. Start >> All Programs >> Access Applications >> SelectHR v(current version) >> SelectHR Service Administrator. 2. Click the Start button on both the Job & Mail Schedule and Payroll Schedule tabs to start the services. 3. Once you ve done this the colour icons in the service status will turn green. The integration is now turned on and the upgrade is complete. 10
