UCPL only offers ebooks: A text-based digital book Of the 6 big publishing houses, only 2 offer their ebooks to libraries Harper Collins and Random House. 11 Signing in to your OverDrive Account Patrons must have a valid library card in good standing in order to use OverDrive. Enter the Library Card Number (including the zeros) and the PIN. Click Sign In. Patrons can not use their EZ Login information as they can in the OPAC. Credentials must be the Library Card Number and PIN. v OverDrive, Inc Page 21 Account Settings Items only remain in My Cart for 60 minutes. 13 Selecting an Available Item When selecting an Item, Check Availability, Select Format for download, and Add to Cart. Check Availability: Available Copies:1 Library Copies:1 If 0 copies are available, a hold can be placed on the item. Select Format for download: Three formats are available in most cases: Kindle Book Adobe EPUB ebook Adobe PDF ebook ebook Checkout Limit of 4 ebook Holds Limit of 3 Add to Cart: Once you have selected the format, click the Add to Cart link located beside the selected format. v OverDrive, Inc Page 25 Adding Item(s) to My Cart/ Proceeding to Checkout Once items have been added to your cart, you can Continue Browsing or Proceed to Checkout. v OverDrive, Inc Page 26 13

14 Checking out Items in My Cart- Select Lending Period Select the Lending Period from the drop down menu: 21 days (default) or 14 days Click Confirm Check Out to check out item(s). 15 Placing a hold for an unavailable item If 0 copies are available, a hold can be placed on the item. Select the Format. 18 Can I download using library computers? Downloading of OverDrive ebooks is not available on Library Computers. Patrons can browse titles, place holds, and checkout ebooks. Downloading to computers and devices must by done outside the library on patron devices. v OverDrive, Inc Page 35 Why are ebooks always shown as Available in the OPAC? OverDrive ebooks are included in our catalog listings and will all have a status of available. This may or may not be accurate since the OverDrive system and our Automation System do not communicate the status of an item. The OPAC listings are included for your convenience. 19 How can I obtain a PIN? A Personal Identification Number (PIN) will allow you to view your library account, renew items and request materials online. It is also required, along with a valid library card number, to check out ebooks. A PIN may be obtained in the following ways: in person at the circulation desk with a library card by phone with library card number A PIN can be whatever combination of letters and/or numbers you choose, up to 8 characters. Just tell the staff member at the Circulation Desk what you want it to be.
