1 Guide to Downloading FREE E-Books and/or Audiobooks from your Public Library Compatible with Almost Every Major Device My Help : Customized help for your computer or device INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS: OverDrive Media Console Audiobooks for ALL Devices Search & Checkout Audiobooks Kindle NO Software Download needed Search & Checkout ebooks for NOOKS Adobe Digital Editions ebooks except Kindles Apple Devices For Audio/ ebooks Newer Nooks and Phones HOW TO Download OVERDRIVE Media Console Free software: Go to the HS Library website Go to left side of page to Subject Links and Click Click on MCLINC Libraries (Montgomery County, if your library is in this county) * Click on POWER Libraries for other locations to select your Public Library. You will see a picture of an IPod Click Library Card Number Enter your personal library card number from your Library Card (no spaces) OVERDRIVE Media Console software ONLY for Audiobooks Go to the bottom left side of the page and you will see highlighted in green Software Downloads. Click on Overdrive Media Console. If you scroll down the page, you can click on View Compatible Devices to see if your device is compatible. If it is compatible, return to your library webpage: Under the green Software Downloads, click on Overdrive Media Console and go to the right side & Choose Version of your device, then click Download Now. SEARCH and CHECK OUT an AUDIOBOOK Click on MCLINC Libraries (Montgomery County, if your library is in this county) or *Click on POWER Libraries for other locations to select your Public Library. You will see a picture of an ipod CLICK

2 Go to the left side and find the Search catalog box Enter the book title/author you are searching for Not all devices are available on all books. **If given the choice between Overdrive WMA Audiobooks or MP3 Audiobooks, choose Overdrive WMA because they are about ½ the file size of MP3 Audiobooks and have better sound quality Once you have found your book and know it is possible to download to your device, click Add to Cart if the library book is available. If not, click PLACE A REQUEST. When it is available, the library will notify you via . You will have a limited time to download the book once you are notified. If the Audiobook title can be downloaded, the buttons PC, MAC, Burn to CD, WMA, ipod (iphone/ipad) or MP3 icons will be highlighted in blue. Click Proceed to Checkout and Click Confirm Checkout. Under the picture of your book, the word Download appears. Click it. A new screen titled Overdrive Media Console appears followed by Get Media. Click OK at the bottom of the Get Media A new screen titled Download appears Choose All Parts. Click OK When the downloading is complete, Overdrive Media Console reappears. Plug your device into the computer or put a CD into the computer Go along the top and Click transfer or burn Your book should now be on your device. KINDLE Click on MCLINC Libraries (Montgomery County, if your library is in this county) ** Click on POWER Libraries for other locations to select your Public Library. You will see a picture of an ipod CLICK on that Search Catalog for Kindle books (ebooks) on Kindle devices PLACE A REQUEST - on books that are not currently available. (You will be ed when they are available for you to check out.) ADD TO MY CART - books that you will be able to download today. (10 Book maximum) PROCEED TO CHECKOUT- when you have finished browsing, CONFIRM CHECKOUT GET FOR KINDLE- this will take you to Amazon.com. Click Get library book and login to YOUR Amazon.com account. Deliver to your Kindle (or Kindle APP on a smartphone or tablet) and click Continue

3 When you turn on your Kindle s Wifi connection and Sync, the book(s) will wirelessly transfer to your Kindle. If the book says Kindle device via USB, once you have logged in, then connect your Kindle to your computer with the USB cable. The Kindle should sync automatically and download your library book. Check your library s website on how long you can access the book(s) after which the book(s) will automatically expire [MCLINC Libraries: 21 days]. Search & Checkout ebooks for NOOKS 1 st Edition & NOOK Simple Touch Click on MCLINC Libraries (Montgomery County, if your library is in this county) or **Click on POWER Libraries for other locations to select your Public Library. You will see a picture of an IPod CLICK Go to the left side and find the Search catalog box Enter the book title/author you are searching for Not all devices are available on all books. Search Your Library Catalog for ebooks that are Adobe EPUB Once you have found your book and know it is possible to download to your device, click Add to Cart if the library book is available. If not, click PLACE A REQUEST. When it is available, the library will notify you via . You will have a limited time to download the book once you are notified. You will need to download the free Adobe Digital Editions Software. (Directions below) HOW TO Download the free Adobe Digital Editions Software Go to the bottom left side of the page and you will see highlighted in green Software Downloads. Click on Download Adobe Digital Editions.. If your device is compatible, return to your library webpage. Under the green Software Downloads click on Download Adobe Digital Editions and Choose Version of your device, and click Download Now You will need to create a login account (called Adobe ID) with a password. If you activate anonymously, you will not be able to transfer your ebook(s) to your device. Go Back and Search Your Library Catalog for ebooks that are Adobe EPUB (can change font size!) or Adobe PDF ebooks (static). PLACE A REQUEST - on books that are not currently available. (You will be ed when they are available for you to check out.)

4 ADD TO MY CART - books that you will be able to download today. (10 Book HV Lib.) PROCEED TO CHECKOUT- when you have finished browsing, CONFIRM CHECKOUT DOWNLOAD YOUR BOOK(S) and choose Open Adobe Digital Editions will automatically open on your computer and the title will download. Using your USB cord, plug your ereader into your computer. The device (i.e. NOOK) will appear in the left column of Adobe Digital Editions in the left column directly under Bookshelves. Click on your book and drag it to the ereader Drag (on the mouse click and hold) the ebook over your ereader (NOOK) and drop it (release the click). Eject your ereader and enjoy (Nook users can find their books in the Library Section.) Check your library s website on how long you can access the book(s) after which the book(s) will automatically expire [MCLINC Libraries: 21 days]. APPLE Devices: iphone- ipad- ipod: SAME Instructions for AUDIO & ebooks TO START: Install SOFTWARE called OverDrive Media Console - Available from the APP Store To download OverDrive Media Console for iphone from the App Store SM, click here. If prompted, choose to allow the website to open itunes. Otherwise, click the 'View in itunes' button on the 'itunes Preview' page. itunes opens and displays the OverDrive Media Console page in the App Store. Click the 'Free App' button. You are prompted to sign in to the itunes Store. Enter your Apple ID and Password and click the 'Get' button. itunes downloads OverDrive Media Console to your device (IOS). OPEN (launch) the APP. SEARCH for a Library: MCLINC Libraries (Montgomery Co. Libraries) or POWER Libraries (all other locations) and Login to your Account: Insert your Barcode from your Library card (no spaces) On your Apple device: go to SETTINGS/eBook Settings or Audiobooks (settings are the same). Click on Adobe Authorization & choose Get a Free Adobe ID if you don t have one (this is the user name/password for a login) or enter your current Adobe ID. Go to Get Books ON YOUR DEVICE and Choose Library Search for a book title (audio or ebook) title. Insert your Library Barcode. You will see either EPUB BOOK for reading ebooks or MP3 for Audiobooks. Select the format and it will be on your device.
